I'm going to get political for a second:

This whole marriage debate could have been over years ago if people would just read the ******* Constitution. Marriage is a religious sacrament (which has also become a cultural tradition, which is why non-religious people get married too), and the 1st Amendment clearly states that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free practice thereof."

Banning homosexuals from getting married directly inhibits their 1st Amendment right to practice their religion. And writing a law stating that a marriage "should" be between "a man and a woman" also goes against the 1st Amendment in that it establishes a purely religious belief as law.

So these laws banning gay marriage (including the one recently passed in my home state of North Carolina, which I am extremely disappointed about) are completely unconstitutional.

(Note: when I use the word "religion", I mean it in a looser definition of the word. I don't mean any specific religion like Christianity or Islam--though they do get involved.)

marriage is a legal contract moron; homosexuals can marry religiously if they want to,what they are fighting against is that they dont have the same legal benefits as heterosexual unions.
Banning gay marriage is not unconstitutional,is something that has not been mentioned in the constitution and hence, its legality only relies in the given political situation, today is illegal, tomorrow can be legal and it can be illegal again in a couple of months.
''Banning homosexuals from getting married directly inhibits their 1st Amendment right to practice their religion. '',MY GOD,thats the stuppidiest thing I have hear in years, you are the liberal version of an illiterate red neck

A note: Marriage isn't actually religious. It's existed before most religions, as far back as we know as a way of protecting the women and binding them to the male. So basically, it's been a cultural tradition that religions decided to steal and say "it's ******* mine" to everyone else.
#13 to #8 - chazzxz (05/14/2012) [-]
people make the argument of religion but it is really about morals. I can't go around and say that I murder people and its ok because it's part of my religion. For the record I think gay marriage should be legal because it's none of my ******* business who gets married and who doesn't.

That's Ron Paul's stance on gay marriage - the govt. shouldn't even be involved

I'm not racist but I will plays devil's advocate, imagine you were a southerner in the 50's and 60's, it was a totally different time than what anyone on this website knows about. Racism was accepted then and everything was segregated. Racial equality was a foreign term to them and they feared change, as everyone does. So before you use an argument like that look at the other side of the argument.

Although I am a conservative Christian I look at this issue constitutionally and see no problem with gay marriage. It's not really an issue to me if people of the same sex get married, and honestly would like for them to just legalize it already because quite frankly, I'm tired of hearing the idiot conservatives bitching about it. It's going to happen inevitably so why prolong it. It's just stupid.

I really don't care. It doesn't affect me so why should I? it's not my issue to argue. I'm just tired of hearing about it.

hat test did not social enviroment as a variable, it turned out that black and white people who had the same had similar social background had about the same cognetive abilities.
so what that test showes is really that black people are more likely to grow up in socially challenged homes, and why this is is a different debate.

Yeah, that was a huge loss back then. They had the right idea. Imagine, the world wouldn't be in debt, there would be at least 50% less disease, and less people would have died. If only we sent the ******* back to Africa. Rip human race.

I'm against race mixing because I love blondes and don't want them all to disappear.

What the hell, stop with these gay rights posts. You all do realize that the argument over gay rights is being used by politicians to distract you from more serious problems that are harder to work on right? No jobs, crappy economy and a slew of other issues and they pick out gay marriage as the focus to pull your attention away and you buy right into it. Comparing slavery to gay people not being able to get married in every state is almost offensive to me and I am asian. Slavery was suffering and death for black people and was the topic of a man OWNING another man. The gay rights movement is a movement for gays to be able to get married in every state. It is not comparable.
