Considering the term independent is the antonym for dependent, and you are dependent on the government for your tuition, I will go ahead and say that you are not independent yet, good sir.

True. It's conditional, though. I have to get good grades or I lose my funding, and if I get arrested on any sort of drug-related offense, I have to pay back everything.

There is nothing wrong with dependencies, as in the case with the government they are mutual dependencies.

You depend on the Gov't to pay your tuition.
The Gov't is depending on you to make something out of it.

In fact I would go so far as to say that independence is an illusion. No person is truely independent.

Nope, America. FAFSA is awesome, I wouldn't be getting a degree if not for them.

sounds great. I moved to norway recently, surpriced me that school is completely free. I don't even have to buy the books, they supply everything. I still have to buy pencils and watnot myself, but who cares. the only school that costs anything are the universities, and even then, they are really cheap.

I get $700 a semester for textbooks, but that's more than enough. Plus I only have to pay a small percentage of the tuition for each class I take, so it's pretty nice.

that's how how the school system should be.

My parents do pay for all that, and I am thankful but i do know that I'm not independent. Obviously. That does not mean i don't have to pay them back. When i get a legit job ill start paying them back, but it won't be as stressful because its my parents not the bank coming take my car.

But man will that check be huge........ MFW i see how much i have to pay back.

I have a job, the only thing my parents pay for is my tuition, and my uncles help me with rent. Am I independent yet? D:
