Teach Gengar this moveset

Dream Eater

Use Curse for some repeating damage, make fall asleep using Hypnosis (or any move that make it fall asleep) and give Nightmare, use Dream Eater to recover HP you lost from Curse.

OP's idea is pretty common in competitive battles. Usually, instead of giga impact and hyper beam, body slam and curse are being used. The more you use curse, the more powerful Snorlax's defense and the more powerful Body Slam will be. It's almost impossible to counter once he's got more than 3 boosts, only a 'hazer' (pokemon with a move like Haze or Roar) can stop him at that point.

Oh, and usually 'competitive battle' means 'using all the exploits the game has to offer'. Try to fight a serene-grace-Togekiss with a move that has a chance to flinch. You're gonna have a bad time.

User avatar #105 to #73 - sirizenhime (05/06/2012) [-]
Well having curse completely changes the scenario I would think, as that actually has a sort of strategy involved other then 'huuur i'm going to attack you with strong moves!"

I've seen the curse-lax set used, and it is indeed a good set if you can get around the fazers, but the attempt OP posted above most likely would fail.
#101 to #73 - ohgodwaitimatheist (05/06/2012) [-]
Just for some laughters at my opponent raging furiously, I used for a few days a Jirachi with Choice Scarf and Zen Headbutt, Iron Head, Body Slam and a fourth move I don't remember, but dude, it was a wall.
#159 - Sasher (05/06/2012) [-]
This image has expired
Theres also the chance of him using rest again, and hyper beam is a special attack and Snorlax is an attack pokemon (mostly a wall unless he runs curse) so it wont do much damage. Not to mention that both moves have low PP so it would run out quite fast.
User avatar #174 to #159 - TheFixer (05/06/2012) [-]
but hyper beam is powerful so it will get them pretty low, also pp up
#192 to #174 - misteryshadow (05/06/2012) [-]
unless you fight with ghost pokemons which are inmune to normal/fighting moves so if you fight one with that moves you're ****** up

thats why i taught my snorlax surf
User avatar #140 - KillinTime (05/06/2012) [-]
step 1: acquire focus belt
step 2: breed a pidgey to have endevour and quick attack
step 3: give pidgey focus belt
step 4: open with endevour. your opponent will go first. reducing pidgey to 1 health (because the belt prevents 1hit). endevour will match your opponents health, so reduce it to 1.
step 5: use quick attack.
step 6: ???
step 7: profit from ensuing nerdrage.

Gengar used Nightmare...

...Problem, Normal moves?
#53 - snivymaster (05/06/2012) [-]
Sleep talk can possibly use rest and so the move would fail, Snorlax most likely won't have a good balance between attack and sp. attack and will only have good attack. Not to mention the opponent could be a ghost type or just resistant to normal types.

So much could go wrong with this. And it's not trolling, but rather a strategy, maybe.

Magikarp- Flail, holding focus sash
Smeargle- Baton pass, endure, holding salac berry

Have smeargle use endure.
(If smeargle's health falls below 25%) Use baton pass to Magikarp.
Magikarp's heatlh falls to one (with focus sash)
Now has super speed due to baton pass
FLAIL to your hearts content.

Here's a strategy that I came up with for double battles (but haven't implemented):

1. Get an Alakazam, a Shedinja, and either a Spiritomb or a Sableye
2. Be sure that your Spiritomb/Sableye has stat increasing moves and moves that are effective against every type
3. Teach Alakazam Skill Swap, and max out his speed IVs. Having a nature that increases speed would be even better.
4. Send out Alakazam and Shedinja.
5. Have Alakazam use Skill Swap on SHedinja.
Switch out Shedinja, switch in Sableye/Spiritomb
6. Have Alakazam use skill swap on Sableye/Spiritomb

The only way you could be defeated now is your opponent happens to know either Foresight, or Odor Sleuth
#114 to #102 - anon (05/06/2012) [-]

or if he poisons you, or burns you, or uses sandstorm, or hail, or curse or.....
User avatar #136 to #106 - goochmaster (05/06/2012) [-]
Oh, actually; Spiritomb can learn Hypnosis, dream eater, and Nasty Plot, so you use Nasty plot and max out spec. attack, use hypnosis, and then use dream eater. For the fourth attack, it can be Shadow Ball or something like that. Sableye can learn moonlight and recover by egg.
User avatar #128 to #106 - goochmaster (05/06/2012) [-]
If they don't poison/burn you before the skill swap, then they can't do it. For hail/sandstorm, use recover (I think Spiritomb can learn it through breeding). If you're cursed, well then... you would be ****** .
