How is this even remotely funny?

a way to combine binomials was a procedure called FOIL (first, outer, inner, last)
i dont think i need to explain more

I read those F O I L comments above, and I now understand it
But I'm not from an English speakign country, and have therefore not had any experience with F.O.I.L.

I understood it from the beginning and it's just a very unfunny joke. Don't worry, you're not alone.

Very good, thumb for you sir.
TO THOSE WHO DONT GET IT:
(X-2)(X+2)
X times X = X[s] (squared)
X times +2 = 2X
-2 times X = -2X
-2 Times +2 = -4
X[s] + 2X -2X -4 = X[s] -4

I still don't get it.

I suck at math, there is too many symbols and weird **** going on.

What's foil? I'm not american D:
User avatar #50 to #48 - threedogification (05/06/2012) [-]
front, outer, inner, last. It an abbreviation used for algebraic equations such as that one.

Suck my dick, grammar nazi
#52 to #50 - proparoxytone (05/06/2012) [-]
that's algebra? pfff I learned that in 6th grade.
User avatar #53 to #52 - threedogification (05/06/2012) [-]
you can learn algebra whenever you want
#60 to #50 - slesbian (05/06/2012) [-]
Sorry, but it is a quadratic equation, hence the x squared.

User avatar #71 to #60 - funbuttjuice (05/06/2012) [-]
its a binomial retard
User avatar #65 to #60 - backlash (05/06/2012) [-]
its not an equation? let alone a quadratic one hence the lack of an "=" sign

My teacher taught us to do the box thing...

I'm in eighth grade and we did that this year along with FOIL.
#42 to #31 - Doktrpeppr (05/06/2012) [-]
Same, but we didn't go into foil. Just the box. Example in picture. (crappy and with mouse xD)
#46 to #42 - nineredballoons (05/06/2012) [-]
I always hate that box.

I find it useful :3

I, uh, what?
So you know a bit of math, I guess?
I don't get it.

Never heard of that **** .
We just learned that each addend should be multiplied with both of the other addends.
But that's a step we normally just skipped.
(a+b)^2=a^2+2ab+b^2
User avatar #24 - biggrand (05/06/2012) [-]
i never quite understood foil, can someone explain this?
#43 - anon (05/06/2012) [-]
PEMDAS AND BEMDAS are for order of operaions
FOIL AND FILO are for operations such as that shown in comic.

SO STFU ABOUT PEMDAS AND BEMDAS, THAT DOES NOT APPLY HERE.
User avatar #44 to #43 - Pharonix (05/06/2012) [-]
FILO is for determining queues in computer science.
First in, Last out.

User avatar #56 to #44 - Pharonix (05/06/2012) [-]
OOPS sorry, FILO is for Stacks First in is last out.
FIFO is for queues, First in is First out.

i understand what it is, i've just never heard of this. my class basically went "multiply this, this, this and this."
