Shortest theory that sums up everything:

Its okay what you think about opposing religion and stuff,
you can just believe in god and you won't lose anything because if there was really a god then he'd reward you and if there wasn't you won't lose anything.

That is the most chicken **** argument I've ever heard from someone...
if you have the idea that there COULDN'T be a god.. but the only reason you say you believe in a god is simply because of the consequences in the afterlife is just absolute cowardice.

I am just suggesting a theory which I find pretty logical and straight-forward
I don't want to get into any religious debates
if cowardice is what you think of it, then have your way, I won't try to convince you

what if you believe in the wrong god

the god for Christianity is the same god for Islam and supposedly the same for Jews
but I say just in the idea of a god
User avatar #478 to #431 - darthblam (04/27/2012) [-]
Well.. a Christian would still say you would go to Hell if you claim to be a Muslim.. even if it's the "same god" you have to would face the other belief's punishments...

There's more than one god here.. and that's what changes this "theory" of yours...

create your own religion, I only care that you're a decent and good person who deserves good things because of his actions

But other religion's gods won't...

Apart from all those years spent in church and having sex with more than 1 person?
User avatar #427 to #406 - potatoace (04/27/2012) [-]
Am not being a preacher or anything but, the god would just reward if you lived a good life and believed in him
User avatar #434 to #427 - svulfie (04/27/2012) [-]
Well, yes. But if it turned out there was no god, after a life of faithful devotion, you would miss out on a lot.
User avatar #445 to #434 - potatoace (04/27/2012) [-]
well, you don't have to be devoted and stuff
free but good
one could try to shun the bad qualities not for religion but because he feels its the right thing

Well, thats just called being a decent person I believe. Then again, most (well a big part) of the people calling themselves Christian only do so because they believe there is someone who created the Earth and that he had a son named Jesus. They are just about as Christian as an average Jew or Muslim is. Most don't believe in the bible, and think it should be read as a book of guidance, rather than a book of actual historic events. In short, a lot of people "believe" in Christianity because thats what they've been brainwashed with since birth, and so they believe in most scientific facts, even the ones directly disproving most of what Christianity is based upon, yet stay "faithful" because they are afraid.

Atleast I think so...... *rantrantrant*
#504 to #467 - potatoace (04/27/2012) [-]
nah its not a rant/

I had many religious debates, and I am sure going to have more and more
but I don't care what others think; most of the are brainwashed "as you said" and those who are able to give a debate are usually unbound to change their views
and as I always say: nobody has to do with other's religion or views if these things aren't harming anyone
--> one should maintain his spirituality for himself
is someone follows a certain religion and performs the demanded prayers then does bad things then they certainly won't be deserving of anything that the religion claims to reward
many many many words on religion

Now see, there I agree with you completely. I have a couple of friends who call themselves Christian or Muslim, but they don't bother me about it, so I don't bother them. What this world needs is just a little more respect from all sides. What parents at home teach their kids is their own business. It's just when such a, to me, extreme point of view regarding how everything works is implemented through public schools, as it was where I grew up, that I call it brainwashing.

But, yes, a very interesting topic of discussion, I'd say.
