Everytime I see **** like this it pisses me off. Stupid nostalgia fags.

Later generations have more originals designs instead of: "Hurr lets get a rat and make it purple....Genius!" Gamefreak actually put thought into most of the later generation pokemon.

Gen1 & 5 starter design origins:

-Charizard resembles the European dragon, certainly one of many forms told and rendered in legends.

-Emboar is based on the soldier of Romance of the Three Kingdoms. It and its pre-evolutions, as stated by Ken Sugimori, were designed in a Chinese style. Because of its Chinese style, it may be based on Zhu Bajie, a pig demon from the Chinese tale Journey to the West. Infernape is also based on another character from the novel, Sun Wukong, and has a similar design as well as the same typing. It seems to also take inspirations of a pig or boar in a professional wrestler's or possibly a lucha libre's attire. The swirled pattern that surrounds its abdomen is visually similar to the patterns on ancient Greek pottery.

Now which is more original?
Most people only defend Gen 1 based on nostalgia alone which is stupid.

okay im going to stop being the good guy here. lets put this straight, this is the last post im making in this thread so im going to make it count youre an idiot basing pokemon on looks. gen 1 sucked. not over all but by pokemon standards. the game was written on a cartridge less then 100kb, it is the equivilent in space to a long word document. the game was EPIC for its time. gen 2 came along and blew it out of the ******* water and people loved it. so much so they made another and it blew gen 2 out of the water, it was next gen, it was colorful, it was unique, had big story arcs, lots of things to do, a huge after game (not as big as gen 2 but still impressive) amazing pokemon, amazing concepts (dive and a desert) awesome legendaries and was regarded as one of the best GBA games in history, leaf green came out and it flopped, was THE WORST selling pokemon game in history because people realized how much better the new games were they didnt want a rehash, they wanted the new. gen 4 came along and while it wasnt as huge of a success as the others it was new, it tried new things, it became the game that connected the pokemon world with the global wireless trade. it. was. amazing. the pokemon were lack luster but the battle islands, wifi play, underground and the non linear story made it a huge hit shortly after people realized this. soul silver and heart gold came out and being that gen 2 was one of the biggest pokemon games ever the game came out like a rocket and became huge, to this day i dont know a fan who hasnt played/owned one of them. then gen 5 came out. they realized who their target audiences were and appealed to the kids and the faithful fans with the pokemon but appealed to the older groups and the older kids with the story, the antagonist being used by a group, the heart break he felt in the end and the pokemon were ******* EPIC. it had its worst but it was a complete overahaul although not the most loved, easily one of the best pokemon games to date.

There needs to be more more people like you. I've been playing Pokemon since I could hold the damn gameboy. I've played each one numerous times and I love them all (My favorite is by far, Silver). I hate when people judge the new Pokemon games just because of the look of some new Pokemon. Every generation had at least one ****** design, but that doesn't ruin the game altogether. I don't care how bad the designs get, I will always love Pokemon

Well you can base pokemon of things other than appearance. Vanilluxe is really power and has an amazing special attack and special defense. As for Musharna its such a powerful psychic pokemon. Garbador Isn't to great in stats but his poison attacks are great for long drawn out battles.
Just because you dont like a few pokemons appearance does not make it a bad game

Actually, Infernape and his earlier forms were inspired by Sun Wukong, the main character in the same Chinese tale as Zhu Bajie; Journey to the West. Sun Wukong was able to command wind and partially water if I recall. Gamefreak just changed his type to be one of the starters.

Ok... I'll take the bait.

First off, yes, there is a bit of a nostalgic factor involved in this. I'm an oldfag (As far as students go...) I've been playing video games since I was 4, with my first console being the Sega Gensis, and Gameboy B&W(If you want to consider it a console). I adored Pokemon yellow (Red and blue too, but I liked having a Pikachu). We experince nostalgia because these pokemon games rocked the boats of the game industry at the time. It was something truely unique, and thats why us "nostalgia fags" love it the most, because no other game in the series has been as shocking and fresh. Gold and silver were pretty cool with the concept of two primary legendaries (according to version), and Ruby and Sapphire had some pretty unique pokemon, but these didn't make the same splash as R/B/Y.

As for the new pokemon hate, it's not even the sometimes generic appearances that bug us. (I mean, for christ sake. Look at Raticate.) The hate for these come more of the super generic names and "WTF" concepts (See: Garbador ect.) I love all the pokemon games, but Gen 5 disapointed me in terms of some of the pokemon's visuals (Although , I really like Snivy's final evolution, who's name currently escapes me). Plus, there is a ************* of legendaries. We don't need THAT many.

And there is the birth of the hate.

TL;DR - More to it than nostalgia

I agree, I'm saying that most ignorant people who complain about the newer pokemon games only use nostalgia alone and find the worst pokemon possible as an example, without mentioning some of the good ones. And I agree with the legendary issue too, So many that they don't even feel "legendary" anymore

youre not being a dick about this so ill reply to you in hopes of a civil conversation. why did gen 5 disappoint you exactly? while yeah some of the pokemon sucked they were going to all gens have pokemon to appeal to different people or even none at all. just to be there. gen 5 is no different, personal favorites, litwick (all evolutions), the ghost golem i cant remember the name of and jalorda (snivys final evolution) i know i have the last name wrong but i own the japanese version so i cant read the names, only know some translations.

story wise i thought gen 5 was the best next to gen 2 and the antagonist was fantastic in my eyes.

your argument with legendaries ehhh... youre right. there doesnt need to be that many but think of it this way. theyre less legendaries (you can get them before the basic legendary part of the game) and more prizes for side things to do like a great unique weapon in fallout, borderlands or skyrim or even final fantasy. it may not be end game but its good enough to get you through where youre are at the moment. theyre less legendaries and more something to do at the end of the game and random events.

I tend to agree with electrokooper more- that people (including myself) are biased towards certain games due to reasons other than which are actually better. When it comes to the 5th gen pokemon I don't have much to go off of because I stopped after fourth. However- based on the pokemon- I'd say that gamefreak really did begin to run out of ideas at this point. I mean, look at this ******* pokemon right here! It's a ******* icecream cone!

tl;dr- ice cream is now a pokemanz

they never have represented animals completely, instead they were similar to an animal but with some almost mystical aspect to them. while ops later gen pics were unfair since they were legendarys and I still liked 3rd gen, it seems that more and more pokemon now are more closely resemble things than animals and that bothers me a bit.

The Ghastly family is ******* awesome. Especially Haunter. Except the ****** doesn't evolve unless you trade it.

deoxys is supposed to be based on a double helix (deoxyribosenucleic asis)
darkrai is a nighmare pokemon, it gives nearby sleeping people and pokemon nighmares
and vincinity is based on v for victory.

I wish I could thumb this more. Also I hate when people say that Pokemon has become unimaginative. Look at what they're doing with Black and White 2. This has never been done before.

Yep. Just because it's a pokemon doesn't mean it necessarily has to look like anything.

For example:
<----Awesome pokemon. WTF is it? Beats the **** out of me!

I'm sorry, I don't know of any boulders that have weird dinosaur appendages jutting out of them. Do you?

Obviously not. It's a variation, but based on being a boulder essentially.

And here we have it. "Based" on something. That's all it needs to be.
