You're going to the top comment on everything on the front page and replying to it. Why? Are you that desperate for thumbs? It's not as if you don't get plenty anyway, hell, anyone who takes the time to even edit the content a little bit (read: add dickbutt) gets plenty of thumbs, so why are you doing it?

I would just like to note that, at the risk of being a "Shadowrated fanfag", if anyone else had said it nobody would've cared and it would have gotten a few thumbs up. But simply because someone went and bitched about it, everyone's killing themselves because it's Shadowrated and apparently he's a "thumb whore". If anyone else - ANYONE else had done it, this problem wouldn't exist.

Also, considering Poland was getting bummed from both sides.
Also considering Poland was excpecting the Allies to attack Germany in the west, which would cause the German forces in Poland to have retreat in order to save the western front from collapsing, since the overwhelming allied forces would be unstoppable, Poland would be able to then mount a considerable counter attack, due to the reinforcements from our good allies which landed in the north of Poland.
The war would have been ended in a matter of months.
But thanks to the immense genius of the allied commanders, the war lasted 5 ******* years (for Yuropeans).
Oh yeah and then after the war has ended what do the Allied forces do to Poland?
Do they free it and make it independent? **** no, they put it under Soviet control, gee thanks guis, it was great being under the control of one of our greatest nemesis's for like 50 years.

I feel bad for the French. Prior to WWII, France was well known for its military prowess. Under Napoleon, France nearly managed to conquer all of Europe.

It's shameful that France surrendered in WWII. They surrendered before the Germans even set foot in Paris, but this is also a nation which was the battleground during WWI, a nation that lost an entire generation to the war. When the Germans attacked, they were unprepared, still using WWI tactics and cavalry while the Germans were playing an entire different game, and with tanks. The allies in general were well unprepared in every aspect except naval (largely due to the British Empire being the uncontested master of the seas).

France is still a major military power, ranked 4th in military expenditure.

France has a very rich, beautiful history, however... the French people are insufferable. If de Gaulle hadn't come to Canada, telling the people of Quebec to liberate themselves from their "Anglophone oppressors", this secession crap with Quebec would have never been an issue.

This is not true at all America has been a "powerful" nation since the tail end of the 19th century. And the person saying that the UK were masters of the seas were sorely mistaken because Japan's fleet could have decimated the British. America became and has held naval superiority of the world since the 1940's when our industrial powerhouse kicked in on the manufacture of ships much the same way we have held air dominance for the past 30 years.

The US was a major power, it wasn't a super power. And you're incredibly ignorant if you think the US or Japan could outmatch British naval superiority. The British Empire (including its colonies of Canada and Australia) was the sole participant in WWII between 1940-1942. It's navy policed every sea. It had by far the largest navy in the world.

The American navy was quite small and it wasn't until 1944 that the US took the upper hand over Japan.

You are forgetting about things such as the Lend-Lease Act. The U.S. gave G.B. hundreds of ships and aircraft. G.B. was on their knees until the Battle of Britain was over, then they began to succeed. Had the Luftwaffe kept attacking British military targets instead of cities, the British mainland would have been overwhelmed and invaded.

No, dude, he's right. The United States military was so underprepared by the outbreak of WW2 the the general sentiment in the U.S. was that defeat might have been inevitable. In fact, it's only towards the end of the Second World War that the United States became a superpower. You see, by the time the United States entered WW2 we were still using old WW1 tactics, equipment, and even uniforms. The fact that the United States was able to "modernise" so quickly became a matter of pride here in the U.S. Was America a major mover in the world before WW2? Yes. Was the United States the superpower it became post WW2 (Late 1940's-present)? No. You see WW2 really made modern America (in terms of military might). Also, don't forget, the Second World War solidified the soul of America. What America felt itself to represent (hard work, do or die attitude, preserving freedom/human rights) was established in WW2. Whether or not history can actually back that up is a different matter; the fact is, the United States truly believed that at the end of WW2. This is why you always see WW2 documentaries on the History Channel, or the Military Channel.

The Germans destroyed their economy repaying the allies, particularly France, for all the destruction that was wrought. Much of Northern France laid in ruins and had to be rebuilt.

I see you didn't pay attention in history class.

Germany repaid the allies early on which left them with hyper-inflation. Germany then dropped their old, hyper-inflated Papiermark currency and adopted the Reichsmark. Furthermore, prior to the war the German economy was a beast, mass-producing public works and military armaments as a solution to the depression. This is what also lead in part to Keynesian economics, which became the staple of western economic theory until the 1980s.

I remember learning that the reason the French government surrendered in WW2 was because of fear for the suffering of the civilian population. In fact, the government was split into two camps. On the one side, you had the military wanting to move the government to one of the French colonies and continue the war from there. On the other side the civilian governent felt that it couldn't abandon its civilian population to the Germans (and possibaly German reprisal). Ultimately it came down to German demands. The French government decided that if the Germans demanded the abdication of the French colonies, or French Navy, they would continue the war from abroad. The Germans, however, did not make such demands, and so the French government surrendered.

It was also hypothesized by Hew Strachan that De Gaulle, a combatant in the First World War, was so traumatized by combat (De Gaulle fought at Verdun, one of the bloodiest battles in human history) that the idea of more slaughter influenced his decision in the Second World War (honestly, look up The Battle Of Verdun; It really was a **** fest in terms of human suffering).

There were no North African troops. Workers were drafted in WWI for things such as construction, manufacturing and farming, but not soldiering.

France NEVER employed any Indochinese troops.

Yes, you are a dumbass.

During WW2, the french were beat out of those areas by the japanese. The U.S. asked for the support of Ho Chi minh to fight the japanese for the war effort, promising independance for his country, unfortunately the U.S. didn't realize he would make it a communist country, so they put France back in control of the area.

The French and the Vietnamese (mainly) then fought each other from WW2's end to the battle of Dien Bein Phu, where a large french army was routed. This was the end of the French/Vietnamese conflict. After this battle, the countries of N. Vietnam, S. Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos were established.

For me, I find France great until the end of WW2. Hell, early America had a lot to owe them.

What did America owe them? If you are referring to the revolutionary war where France didn't aid until near the end once they were sure we could do it and only because it would be limiting the power of their greatest advisary, you are wrong.
