My opinion on music. This was the accumulative value of 10 minutes of effort... jazz should be higher

So you're basically saying that metal and rock (even though i like both genres) take more talent to play than genres like jazz? I find that hard to believe.

Jazz, blues and classic rock are way harder to play than metal because the require skill and soul and not just skill

**** you OP, you ignorant piece of **** .
Jazz is the origin of Rock, and is just as hard, if not harder, not play.
Sure there is some ******** stuff that people like to call Jazz but really isn't, but same goes with metal and rock.
Artists like Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, and Louis Armstrong are among the greatest musicians the world has known.

Go **** yourself OP, die slow.

I don't even like jazz, but if you've ever played an instrument you will know that jazz is by far the most complicated thing you can play.
#236 - herecomesjohnny (04/08/2012) [-]
this is stupid, jazz is the most intellectual genre next to classical music. It's been the most innovative genre in history.

I'd actually putt Jazz over Metal...any day. I listen to a lot of both and I'd say jazz is the way to go. Also, jazz drumming. Metal can't even touch that **** .

Same here, Im a tech death drummer. Coming from experience, I respect jazz drummers so much more. So much feel and rhythm in there playing abilities. I love it.

Really? No classics?

Meh. Anyway, I find it that skill and talent are determined by ARTIST, not GENRE

I'm a Jazz fan and my jimmies are zibapity bop bam rustled.

I would normally allow you to put metal above rock if it weren't for one thing, you labeled the y axis "Skill and Talent" and not something like "I enjoy listening to" or "Deserving of existence" .

"Hi, I know nothing about music other than my own washed up retarded opinion. I don' play any musical instrument but if I did all I would play is metal because that's all I give too ***** about and I will remain blissfully unaware of every other genre and live in my own little world where Jazz is easy to play(You're ******* retarded if you really think that btw) because I'm totally full of my self and have no regard for anything other than myself and what makes me happy"-OP

mfw when charts tell me metal takes more skill than jazz.

>suggesting that jazz doesn't involve an insane amount of skill and talent

I don't like jazz that much, but **** son, this **** is really hard to play properly.
Also, learn some variety in music, OP. In almost every genre you have talented people with lots of time and effort put into what they create. Please, do check out something else on your break between Metallica and Sabaton.

OP, you aren't seriously attempting to imply that rock takes more talent than jazz, are you?

Chords for Joseph Kosma's "Autumn Leaves":

Am7 D7 GM7
CM7 F#m7flat5 1.) B7 Em7
E7 2.) B7 Em EminMAJ Em7 Em6
F#m7flat5 B7flat9 Em Em7
Am7 D7 Gmaj7 Cmaj7
F#m7flat5 B7(flat9) Em7 A7 Dm7 G7
F#m7 B7flat9 Em E7

Chords for The Who's "My Generation"

E D (repeat)

While both jazz and rock have blues foundations, jazz started a cultural renaissance and a highly developed chord structure, introducing new musical standards such as 7th and 9th chords.
Conversely, rock was purposefully simple--it was about rebellion. It's not complicated at all, which gave it its allure to rebellious-minded anti-Vietnam teens.

Now, don't get me wrong, I love rock. But to oversimplify America's finest contribution to the arts is both demeaning and ignorant.

Is any of you a musician? To play jazz you have to be a music genius. I'm a metal fan by all means, but why put jazz so low? Just sayin'.
#227 - theonionyrogue (04/08/2012) [-]
Technically speaking, Jazz should be at the top, due to its often use of a variety of different keys and meters. I saw a jazz album once, absolutely full of 12/8. If you don't understand 12/8, good, that means you're human. Rock is 4/4, ALWAYS ******* 4/4, and metal is also 4/4, but less catchy and with a lot more yelling. I suppose it shows that no matter how biased or ridiculous your content is, it can get front page if you complain about pop music.
