During a zombie apocolypse, its not the zombies that are going to be the problem, its going to be humans. Zombies will occasionally be troublesome, but for the most part, they're predictable. You know what a zombie wants, and what it will do to get it.

Humans, on the other hand, you can't predict. Someone approching your base may just want a safe place to live, or he plans to kill you and steal the supplies. You may be walking into a town, and get shot because someone sees it as their town to loot.

I don't know about you guys, but here's a list of what I'd have in my setup.

Weapons:
- Two titanium swords with diamond edges(Katanas would be nice)
- A good assault rifle with a silencer with about 120 rounds of ammo
- A Deagle with silencer with about 50 rounds of ammo
- A bunch of fully charged portable speakers the size of grenades attached with cheapy mp3 players(tactical zombie grenades to lead them away)
- A collapsible bo-staff with a spear tip
- A golf bag thingy with wheels? (Dunno what they're called/For storing weapons)

Actual survival;
- A 5lbs bag of sugar
- About 3lbs of dried meat
- Multi vitamin pills
- Knives
- Water purification tablets
- 1W LED torches with a whole bunch of batteries(These things last ******* ages)
- Some water bottles
- A bicycle?
User avatar #246 to #222 - cloukora (04/05/2012) [-]
Nice, I need to get into more details with my kit. Especially a more realistic one than the one I came up with XD
But a bicycle wouldn't be a good idea, easy for the zombies to grab you and pull you down. Most likely they're going to be very strong (we won't know for sure until it happens). I get where you're coming from for it though, it's quiet and they won't be able to hear you. But a heavy duty truck would be more suitable.
Good idea with the silencer btw, after watching Walking Dead, I realized that silencers will probably be a good idea lol
#249 to #246 - fatimmortal (04/05/2012) [-]
I've always liked the idea of silencers and always thought of its usefulness when going silent. I freaking love sneaking up on people and leaving no trace of whatever I did. But then the guns aren't my primary, the swords are. Even silenced weapons make a little noise, hence the swords will be my primary weapons when they get too close for comfort.

Meh, I think it's about time I learn some sword fighting techniques.
User avatar #250 to #249 - cloukora (04/05/2012) [-]
Yeah swords are good for that, and if you run out of ammo. I just hope my katana can hold up, it only cost me $40 xD. In a zombie apocalypse, I don't think it's important to learn fighting techniques, cause (unless they can somehow wield swords) you won't be going against someone with another sword. Although, attacking techniques may be good, like taking two of them down at once or something. But it's really movement and flow of the blade you should worry about. And strength too. You may be fighting for quite awhile, and you also need to be able to drive the sword into the damned things lol
#251 to #250 - fatimmortal (04/05/2012) [-]
That's a cheap katana man, and those cheap ones won't last long when cutting through the neck bone and the skull, which is its primary focus in a zombie apocalypse. Any other part of the body will be useless and a waste of precious energy. Learning how to swing a sword efficiently to kill a zombie faster will be the difference to life or death. Plus, it'll also be useful for hunting or defending yourself against wild animals. :X
User avatar #252 to #251 - cloukora (04/05/2012) [-]
Yeah, I know lol, I gotta get myself a better sword. Yeah I suppose it would be good to be able to defend against wild animals xD
#255 to #252 - fatimmortal (04/06/2012) [-]
I still like the bike idea though. It's quiet and I could get places without zombies noticing me from the noise. The only problem is to get one that can go at least 30mph without falling apart and with a small diesel engine fitted to the back wheel during those long ass rides between towns.

A motorbike would be nice, but then again it's too noisy and I guess it's more efficient to have a moped that won't finish up gas that easily. Plus having a moped means I can store at least 3-4 refuels with me on the go.
User avatar #256 to #255 - cloukora (04/06/2012) [-]
I don't know much about bikes, but yeah it sounds like mopeds would be good for that sort of thing. I would probably just have a muscle car, or a regular civilian truck armored up for defense.

User avatar #91 to #68 - coledunk (04/03/2012) [-]
i read an article that gave acouple of reasons why a zombie apocolypse couldnt happen, wether or not the virus is possible, the main one being an infection spread through bitting is the worst way for an infection to spread.
User avatar #108 to #91 - Mward (04/03/2012) [-]
I read that too, it was a cracked aritcle. But heres the thing, biting is just ONE way. It's not the ONLY way. The infection through their body means any bodily liquid, biting is just the only 100% way because it's getting saliva into the body. But one misplaced slice form a handheld weopon could get some in your eye or all over your face.

-Knives...just no. If a zombie is close enough for that, then it's close enough to bite.
-cars are a bad idea to get out of the cities ( face it in the cities they are going to find you and there will be less space to run) try a bike or something streamline and silent -the main reason being is that everybody will rush out with their cars, making a horrible traffic jam (use the ingoing lane)
-Pack survival things, not guns-okay maybe one or two. (one bang, and all the zombies in a crowded place would come running, you've just rung the dinner bell)
-If you are going to use a gun make sure you know how.
-Stay in groups.
-A crowbar is a good tool to open doors with and use as a weapon as a last resort, very lightweight too.
-Get extremely good cardio, and wear comfy running shoes.
-have raw meat on you to distract zombies (assuming they aren't picky, although you're already ****** if it's come to that) Note, keep in in a sealed container or you might draw zombies closer.
-pack light, have fun

Now- wait it out with your logic shades on.

So no knives and one or two guns? You are right guns do make noise that's where the sharp objects come in, sharp objects to not take bullets, Guns have to stay clean to shoot properly "Fail to clean these guns and - sooner or later - they will fail you, especially the semi-automatics which need lots of TLC." www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1174423/posts so there goes packing light. You should only be in groups of 4-5 otherwise you are going to make too much noise. Zombies don't go after dead flesh or they would be eating road kill and not us.I have a small issue with the use a bike idea but everything else is okay except you do need weapons not just to protect you from zombies.

I was thinking more blunt objects, because sharp objects create blood and splatters and if your mouth is open or you have an open cut that wasn't noticed or whatnot you might get infected without being bitten (I'm assuming that it's spread by saliva, blood ect) . Travelling completely alone would be a bad idea for the fact that getting overrun or surrounded (I wasn't suggesting that bring the whole extended family.) Good point about not only Zombie being the only enemy. It's funny how some people think they know how to use a gun because of being good at a fps. I don't own a gun, wouldn't even know how to take one apart, I know only what movies have shown me, and they have a track history for being completely to fact.
User avatar #253 to #232 - RainbowFright (04/05/2012) [-]
I plan on getting masks and goggles to protect my face, and metal gauntlets to protect my arms and the same thing for my legs.I want to get a bow and arrows since I prefer them other guns. I live in a hunting family (I'm the only one that doesn't know how to assemble/disassemble a gun but I can shoot). I plan on staying in one place with six other people, I'm sure one of them will die fairly quickly though. So many people tell me their zombie plans and I just tear it apart, You were the first one that I really agreed with.Watching a movie about using and cleaning guns is nothing to the real thing trust me.
#208 to #146 - fatimmortal (04/03/2012) [-]
What about silenced guns?

Would swords make a difference? I mean, the only way you're going to be noisy with swords is you accidentally hit a metal pole and make a SPANG sound or you run in screaming Leeroy Jenkins.
User avatar #231 to #208 - lyredragon (04/03/2012) [-]
www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZU5TGljAmw

Silenced guns still actually make noise, albeit less but sounds more hollow. Yep now I need to learn how to use a gun. I was never thinking swords because I don't own one, the only swords I've seen in real life are rapiers which look flimsy and decorative at best. I do have a crowbar in the garage though.

I am just as obsessed with the sombie apoc as everyone else so please let me chuck in my two pence. Thats right pence im english!

So what id do is get a light bag and fill it with rehydratable meals and seeds. I'd get a small tent, and purification tablets, a flint, some battrys (so if i ever need electrizity in emergencies i can get some, i know i wouldnt have enough to rely on), shovels. Hammer, and either a silenced hunting rifle (if i can access one although england has tight as hell gun laws) or some traping hunting eqipment.

Right you may think im packing light but heres my plan. I live in semi-rural devon, i would go up to the moors where theres less people so as not to get infected first of all. Now up on the moors there are tonnes of animals like cows and sheep. I'd live up in the moors by myself (again less chance of infection) and first few months live off hunted animals using the rifle or trapping gear, and the rehydratable meals. Then use the seeds i brought to live off after they start growing and any food that grows naturally.

So im sustainable as i have food, i am out of the way of zombies so they are unlikelly to ever fnid me so it sounds like a pretty solid defence plan to me!

Zombies can move so they will find you after some time. A tent wont protect you from them, mother nature, or the wild animals coming to eat you. You need bottled water too. What if you run out of bullets?
User avatar #165 to #158 - aysonator (04/03/2012) [-]
I assume you dont know how bug the moors are, the moors a masive area with no big urban settlements for hundreds of miles nithign but uninhabited wildlands for miles, i could easily get myself 20 miles away from any other people (and hence zombies)and even if against all the odds some find me, my only supplys is a tent so i can run away and relocate somewhere else. Theres loads of springs and lakes on the moors so i wouldnt need spring water as theres clean water up there already. And theres no wild animals on the moors anti human its all cattle and farmstock, so im safe from wild animals, and i'd bring some winter clothes so im safe from the elements and i can always set up in a woods to avoid really heavy rain. and i am not reliant upon bullets as i plan to trap mostly (like i said its mostly cattle and sheep anyway so i dont really need a gun i could probably lead a cow to my hideout without a fght then just slit its throut and light a fire. So as you can see im fully planned. Checkmate zombies
User avatar #168 to #165 - RainbowFright (04/03/2012) [-]
I have gone camping before and have never been able to disassemble a tent in under 60 seconds like you seem too. You do need bottled water because what if someone has the same plan as you found a zombie and shot it and it happened to fall into your water supply? I'm not willing to even chance boiling it all night. So wild animals fleeing from zombies can't run into you? Wild animals searching for food can't find themselves face to face with you? The livestock (which seems like people know about) wont cause any attention from man, wild animal, zombie? The wild animals will be doing the same thing you say you will do which some call migration. A winter jacket and a tent wont protect you when it gets 20 degrees Fahrenheit. You don't think that when cattle or sheep know they are in danger they will run? They will do anything even break their cages/fences to get out of danger. The cow wont moo when you catch it? the cow wont cry out alerting things near by when you kill it? So you will eat that whole cow in one sitting huh? With no electricity to keep it cold it will spoil quickly, wild animals will smell it and come looking for it. For the zombie apocalypse you need enough food per person to last 3-5 years. That's not packing light. You will run out of food.
User avatar #169 to #168 - aysonator (04/03/2012) [-]
Sorry how the heck is it gonna last 3-5 years they run out of food, i think someone worked it out that everyone would be infected in 4 months (someone figured that if it was biting spread but it seems like a fair guess) how long could they last when they have infected everyone and theres no food, at best 6 months, thats not impossible by any stretch using my technique. And my "camp" shall we say would be far away from the rest of the animals so it wouldnt matter about the sound, and there are ways of preserving past freezing so i could take as much of the cow as i could use then leave the remains (of which there would be lots) helluva long way from me so its not a problem with deiseses or calling in more zombies. And i theres one man tents that you can intstantly put up by throwing and put away by pulling a rope on the side, so i can move fast, and if im really desperate, then i can leave it and just use something else when i can get a chance. With the water thing, like i said theres springs all over the moors so i can go straight to the source to be safe. And i wont be pitching the tent in the middle of a feild it will be somewhere covered so stampeding or panicked animals wont be a worry, and there arn't any hunting animals in devon, the most dangerous things really are rams or foxs i **** you not, i think a hammer can deal with a fox, and rams are terrotorial so just keep away. I say that more clothes and mabye a fire will stop the lowest temps out here (it rarelly goes past -10 degrees here)
#171 to #169 - RainbowFright (04/03/2012) [-]
With your plan zombies will be the least of your worries. The only ones getting infected will be the stupid people, like the ones thinking staying on the ground or underground is best. Zombies can last a long time without food. Your stupidity is making my head hurt.

Dude chillax dont get mad over this, no-one knows how it'll spread and how itll work, if you'd rather stay in a city with other people and more zombies or what ever you wanna do, go for it. But this is how i would go about things if it where to happen. As my first worry is not getting infected so staying away would be the obvious answer so this is an easy way to do it. And how do we know they last a long time without food? You saw it in a video game, a book, on tv?
User avatar #202 to #186 - RainbowFright (04/03/2012) [-]
I never said I would stay in or go to a city. They can freeze up in cold weather which can preserve them. I never said I was mad, I'm actually just sitting here talking to a friend on Facebook. It doesn't really matter how it spreads, it can still get into a water supply from the infected falling in it. Your plan isn't really easy at all. See my Grandma lives in a two story log house off the grid, Already has enough canned goods to feed 10 people for 3 years and I have my own supply of food. The plan is to live on the second floor and destroy the stairs. I live in a hunting and camping family. we have everything we need to stay there (we still need bottled water I only have 3 gallons right now.) All we need if we have to bug out is a little extra gasoline just in case. I'm not going to state everything though because that will help keep us alive. Really our only downfall would be someone in the group being an idiot and doing something stupid when I tell them not too.
User avatar #215 to #202 - aysonator (04/03/2012) [-]
Dude i said you were mad as you were taking stabs at me calling me stupid, a textbook signs that someone is either mad or butthurt. And you were just trying to stab at me from the start and when i gave counter arguments you jumped to calling me an idiot.
User avatar #223 to #215 - RainbowFright (04/03/2012) [-]
Your plan is stupid, You need to actually sit down and think really hard. If I'm in a tent what can get me? Even a falling tree branch can hurt you.I have an army bag, you can only fill it with so many things so I'm only taking food, water, a little bit of clothes, and a fleece blanket or two. then I have a plastic tub with a handle will my small survival gear (rain suits, heat packets,rope...ect. then I have a plastic bag full of hand sanitizer. and all my hunting knifes can go in my pants pockets, pockets on my main bag. even ones with belt hooks. My machete can be hooked to my belt,The only thing I will have to carry is the survival box and my sword. I know plenty of ways to get to my destination even back ways, Heck if I wanted too I could take my car there but that would be stupid depending on what's going on. My grandma even has Willow trees growing in her yard and the switches when cut up can be used as aspirin for when we run out of medicine. If you are going to live in the woods you need to know what plants will kill you and what ones can help you when you get hurt. You also need to know what to do when someone or you breaks a leg/arm or gets a bad infection.
