Funny how before Dubstep and Skrillex were popular, FJ really liked them, but now that it's well known, the majority of FJ hates them.
And then you guys go and make fun of hipsters.

Skrillex isn't dubstep, he's brostep

I still love dubstep, and I actually try to spread around the good dubstep

I've always loved dubstep, always hated skrillex, and now that he is popular it pisses me off cause he is terrible.

I've always hated Dupstep and Skrillex for as long as I've known about them, probably because I'm actually in my right mind.

There's nothing wrong with good dubstep

Oh I enjoy the internet, but I prefer my music to have some instruments and not be completely done with a Mac computer. If anyone claims that Dubstep is better than people like the Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, or Elton John, I have full intention of hunting them down.

It's a matter of opinion, there are no objective truths when it comes to music. I for one prefer listening to Nero, Flux Pavilion, Doctor P, Dubba Jonny, Zeds Dead, Emalkay, Mt Eden, Gemini and a number of other dubstep artists over all the musical acts you mentioned there.

And I've always been a rock fan myself. Green Day is up there among my favorite bands. And you're absolutely right, it's all a matter of opinion.

When my musical tastes were different (good 3-4 years ago) I used to like Greenday. Although I think Linkin Park were my favourite (as I still have Meteora and Hybrid Theory).

the majority of what most good dubstep producers do is not made on "a Mac computer". It is usually made with an analog keyboard and then any variety of other analog controls. also modestep which is a dubstep group uses a live band with a dj mixing everything live.

I'm actually still a huge fun of Dubstep. I have no problems with the big guys like doctor p or nero. Of course, skrillex is by far the most popular. Being an in-progress music manipulator, shows me how little creativity and thought goes into his music. He abuses his sampling and programs, just got his name out to the right people. Definitely did not deserve a grammy. [6]

I know I'll receive a backlash of red thumbs for speaking out, but has anyone actually tried recreating music as good as his with the tools he uses? (not saying I like his music, but I'm sure none of us could produce music on par with what he does).
#89 to #82 - fronsklu (04/01/2012) [-]
thats the point of many people. he uses easy to use and overly simple tools and creates music that emulates the simplicity and lack of originality that he has. No red thumbs for your opinion because you have a completely valid point.
User avatar #123 to #89 - wiredguy (04/02/2012) [-]
That may be so, but he does play the keyboard with mixes of sounds, and he also comes up with the tunes himself, which is the core part of any musical production, no matter what tools you use to finally create it.
User avatar #301 to #89 - TwistedBamboozler (04/02/2012) [-]
He most certainly isn't the best at what he does, but he is very good. You don't have to like his music, but appreciate that creating your own music, making your own sounds, mixing and producing and recording is like wearing 5 different hats. He does it all. That takes skill, and he does have a decent music prowess about him. There are patterns and groove to his songs.
#308 to #301 - fronsklu (04/02/2012) [-]
I just hate it when people compare him to the greats that practically invented the genre (daft punk, deadmau5...) I'm not a fan of his music, its too distorted and I think that it all sounds very simelar, but I can appreciate how he has advanced the genre.
#486 to #308 - derpes (04/02/2012) [-]
MFW you said deadmau5 and Daft Punk invented the genre.

More like Kode9, Skream, Benga, Artwork etc.
#548 to #486 - fronsklu (04/03/2012) [-]
I realize, but They are the faces of electronic music in general... not just dubstep. I am well aware of people like benga and Skream, I just know that they didn't popularize electronic music the way Deadmau5 or Daft Punk did.
User avatar #544 to #486 - TwistedBamboozler (04/02/2012) [-]
Daft Punk was around then too. Definitely in the mix there. But certainly not Deadmau5.
User avatar #547 to #544 - derpes (04/02/2012) [-]
No... no... definitely not. I would be extremely surprised if they'd even heard of it till about 2006ish considering it was underground, even to most of the UK public let alone a couple DJs from France.
User avatar #311 to #308 - TwistedBamboozler (04/02/2012) [-]
I agree with everything you said except about Deadmau5, they certainly did NOT invent the genre. That genre has been around a lot longer than you think. He's only really been active for about 5 years or so, maybe a little longer.

User avatar #484 to #82 - derpes (04/02/2012) [-]
MFW you call his music "good."

BUT, seriously that's a point worth noting, but I think fronsklu summed up the counter for that perfectly. What I really dislike about him is more his fans - the amount of morons who've lept onto the genre is unreal (just because it's the popular thing to do) and think that "dubstep growls" are a major feature in dubstep (hell, Skrillex isn't even dubstep) Also note the fact that a lot of them have absolutely zero respect for the genre and it's pioneers.

I can see this then being a spiral toward a sheer lack of unoriginality, because fanboys copy his ideas etc. and dubstep will end up a corporate mechanism for the pop industry - which if you know it's roots you'll understand that's a very sad thing.

Also, older dubstep has a lot of emotion in it - it has a deep lying fury which so many people can relate to (hence why it has a lot of purist fans), but when Skrillex came on the scene he produced what was essentially... random noises.

TL;DR: Skrillex isn't dubstep (challenge me if you want); Souless; a lot of his fans are idiots; if this carries on, dubstep will die.
User avatar #375 to #82 - smackledorf (04/02/2012) [-]
well the idea is this. There are two reasons people hate his music. one, his music sounds like a bunch of crazy sounds and computers having sex. which is sad, it gives a horrible impression of what dubstep is, because he is so bad and it's so popular. two, because people like me who love dubstep know that he is actually just using the same synths and bass modulators for all of his songs and doesn't try to be new, and other great dubstep artists that actually play really songs haven't gotten emmies. I'm a dj and every time I'm playing at a younger kids party, they go "hey, do you have any dubstep?" and I say yeah, and they go "can you play Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites by Skrillex" because every one of them ask that, I die a little inside.
User avatar #377 to #375 - smackledorf (04/02/2012) [-]
I actually do love alot of his songs though. I think he is good. But i get very tired of his music.

I hate people who use arguments like "OH YOU COULDNT DO ANY BETTER, SO IT IS ******* GOD TIER"
not that you are doing that or anything, but the amount of people who defend crappy stuff with this argument is outstanding
