When I got Ultimate Spider, I learnt the conciquences of not having the red light showing.
(it's so you can use the stickes rather than the d-pad)

Turns the analog sticks (joysticks) on and off for PS1 games.
User avatar #318 to #314 - nevrit (03/29/2012) [-]
So it was meant to... turn off buttons you could potentially use during a game?
User avatar #320 to #318 - turtledude (03/29/2012) [-]
well, it would switch the controls from the D-pad to the joysticks or joystick to D-pad.
User avatar #322 to #320 - nevrit (03/29/2012) [-]
Ah ok, that makes sense if it is like that. Although most games I had back then could use both simultaniously.
User avatar #323 to #322 - turtledude (03/29/2012) [-]
Yea, some games were derped though.
User avatar #327 to #323 - nevrit (03/29/2012) [-]
Yea :/
I think it also would be fun if the levels went up to 200 or so and the first few are easy but it gets hard as you keep going. That way the games is fun the whole way through.

I'll second and thumb to that.

fun fact: if you have an adapter to use the PS2 controller to use on a PS3, that button works as the PS button

its for playing games for the PS1, since the ps1 controllers didnt enjoy joysticks

tl;dr it makes PS1 games playable on the PS2
User avatar #312 to #304 - thisjerk (03/29/2012) [-]
There is actually a fair amount of PS1 games that use the joysticks and I actually have PS1 controllers with joysticks. It's just to turn the joysticks on or off depending on what game you were playing or how you wanted to play. On really old PS1 games, it has to be turned off, but on the later ones, it can be on or off.
#303 - anonymous (03/29/2012) [-]
it turns on and off the joystick ....good guy greg <---------

Seeing the button with a red circle around it makes it look really out of place. Maybe because I just never really acknowledged it.

Me, having reached a fair age can tell ye the story of this ere button.

'Since the Dawn of time, when playstation recently existed, there were only games capable of using the D-pad. Then came some other games, capable of using joysticks. When you pressed this button you could turn analog compability on/off, whatever.
#308 to #293 - anonymous (03/29/2012) [-]
after "this ere button", I started reading with your voice. Magic.
#301 to #293 - xexion (03/29/2012) [-]
Yea and in those games you just used the D-pad.
I honestly don't believe there was a reason to actually turn the analogue sticks off
#330 to #301 - CrucifiedPuppy (03/29/2012) [-]
On some PS1 games (the ones released before playstation controllers had analogue sticks more than likely) the controller wouldn't work at all if the analogue sticks were on. You needed to turn the analogue sticks off before you could play at all. Games released after the analogue controllers came out didn't have this problem because most of them used the sticks anyways.
