>Counting cold war
>Counting years of wars that the US wasn't involved in yet (World War)
>Counting the Indian-American 'wars'
>Counting the Spanish American war as more than 5 months
>Counting overlapping years
Just saying.
#18 to #12 - Rascal (03/27/2012) [-]
the indian-american conflicts weren't wars per say, but certainly soldiers died, guns were fired, and land captured. Close enough.

spanish american wars lasted longer than 5 months, and should be counted due to deaths resulting from exposure to tropical diseases they would have otherwise not caught.

Cold war I have to agree with though, shouldn't necessarily be counted, though increased militarism should be noted

one more thing, he forgot the Korean War, which my grandfather served in

We didn't fight in WW1 until 1918, Mexican American War is from 1846-1848 not 1836, American Indian Wars most definitely did not go until 1919 no idea where you're getting that from, most of the little ones were barely three months. So in other words, OP is a faggot

>Counting the Cold War as a 50 year war.
>Counting double for wars that overlap.
>Adding a full year for wars that lasted a few weeks.

The indian american war was intermittent
The cold war wasn't really a war
My total says 54 + the conflicts, + the bits of fighting in indian American
Forgot Korean war

War got us to where we are, gave us low gas prices for a developed nation, and a reputation of being brutish warmongers.

Besides the fact that we're now monsters, we're doing pretty well for ourselves
User avatar #16 - heretofap (03/27/2012) [-]
war is possible as long as there are at least 2 humans on this planet. we be violent an ****
#50 to #16 - Rascal (03/27/2012) [-]
We were at war before we invented stone axes! And we got better over time!
What we come up with scares the **** out of even ourselves! Who the **** would think that having enough firepower to destroy your only habitable world twenty times over is a guarantee of Peace?

We poison our air and water to weed out the weak!
We detonate nuclear weaponry in our only atmosphere!
WE NAILED OUR GOD TO A STICK.

Don't you dare **** with the human race!
#52 to #50 - Rascal (03/27/2012) [-]
And also,
We put neurotoxins in our food FOR THE FLAVOUR.
We burn irreplacable parts of our planet AS A MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION.
And said transportation explodes with the simplest of Pressures!

In WW2 slovakia declared war on USA. After WW2 everyone forgot about it. That declaration still hasnt been closed. Officially Slovakia is still at war with the USA :D
User avatar #86 to #85 - greatbear (03/27/2012) [-]
Actually, it isn't.
Same thing happened on the balkans in 1905. Russia declared war on Japan, and Montenegro, being russia's ally , decided to declare war on Japan too. But , before montenegrin forces arrived to japan , the war was over.

In 1918 Montenegro united with serbia. This country (yugoslavia) was ripped apart in the late XXth century, and in 2005 , montenegro gained independence. So, that is a new country, which had to develop new diplomatic relations with the world.

And as you probably know, when the ww2 was over, Tiso's fascist slovakia once again united with the Czezch rep. to form Czeczchoslovakia .

MFW, when I talk about the korean war(same time frame as cold war)...apparently people thought it was the vietnam war when there was no war during the "cold war"
#21 - Rascal (03/27/2012) [-]
Technically u guys weren't in WW1 from 1914-1918, it is more like 1917-1918, just sayin'
User avatar #47 - MegaAwesomeSauce (03/27/2012) [-]
America has run its course and is now a dried up shell of what it was once was, it depends on other countries for resources like oil and food and when those countries refuse to make deals, they invade. War is necessary if you want to live the comfortable lives that you currently have.

and you have a good track record all things considered
only lost:
1812
bay of pigs
vietnam
alamo

User avatar #66 to #65 - insanemanoo (03/27/2012) [-]
We never officially sent troops to the Bay of Pigs. We only trained Cubans to fight there, but we might have sent some soldiers to fight there "off the record."
User avatar #68 to #66 - icedmantwo (03/27/2012) [-]
regardless american troops fought and died there, whether the government wants to admit it or not, the whole point of keeping it secret was to prevent nuclear war
User avatar #98 to #68 - insanemanoo (03/27/2012) [-]
I can believe that.

Your list:

1812: Was a truce called by both sides after kicking the **** out of each other. No winner.
Bay of Pigs: Wouldn't call it a war, but it was a dumbass operation, I semi agree with you.
Vietnam: The military never lost a battle in Vietnam, but, however, the public opinion changed and they were eventually forced to come home after derping around for over a decade.
Alamo: Was part of another war. Which was won.

All in all, we're quite a bastard war-mongering country. What the **** is wrong with us.

Texas during the alamo war, there were no U.S. troops to help the Alamo because it wasn't a U.S. nation, but there were volunteer forces from tennessee that were promised to live in texas if they helped. The U.S. did have a war at the same time against mexico, yes, but it wasn't aimed to help Texas. Texas was it's own country :D
#83 to #76 - Rascal (03/27/2012) [-]
The US lost some 50 battles in the Vietnam war
#97 to #83 - komradkthulu (03/27/2012) [-]
Where the hell did you get those facts, anon. The US annihilated the NVA whenever they participated in a conventional battle. The last major one was the Tet Offensive. The entire NVA and VC forces were wiped out or severely depleted.

Now, engagements might be another story. This would be small scale squad sized stuff, taking into account things like ambushes.

But battles, however, were completely one sided.
