No, college is much different than high school. It's where you grow up and see what life's really like. Don't make life-altering changes just for one person. If you guys really love each other and it's meant to be, you'll make it even if you're apart from each other my distance.

This is a time where y people want to experiment. Many girls will break up with their guys to get the full college experience, and guys do the same. You guys may not though, not everyone turns to a whore/slut. But seriously, go to a a college you want to, don't sacrifice a 4-year college education for a community college just to be closer to your partner.

I would usually say pick the college over her, but i dont know your specific situation. The most important part is that it's your decision. If she's pressuring you to stay behind at a worse school with her than she probably doesn't have your best interests at heart. I'm doing the same thing, my gf told me to not let herself be a factor in my decision and of course that just made me want to stay with her more. It's good to get advice, but if you let someone else make the decision for you, you will absolutely regret it. Good luck man

Not that anyone cares about an anon's opinion. But i chose not to go to college with my girlfriend. All in all a good decision, But it's kinda extreme because we're in different countries. Anyway, we've been apart for 3 years now, so it CAN be done.

That being said it rarely does work.

Educational prospects should always come first, because no matter how strong your bond, you can easily grow apart, but education is something that will always be yours. My five year relationship ended abruptly only a few months before finishing up my associates. Luckily, it was long-distance at my college and I was not affected much since I had a goal to focus on. But dropping everything for someone who have not lived with for extended periods of time is a bad idea, it's a LOT different having a spouse/relationship where you live-in with one another versus a casual 'see you on the weekend' romance.

Last year, my girlfriend was a sophomore in high school and I was a senior. I went about 200 miles away for school, which isn't all that bad I suppose, because we still get to see each other about twice a month. Everyone posting here is right, college is much different than high school, and you meet a lot of new people. However, in spite of meeting so many new girls and being so far away, I never fell out of love with her. I love her even more today than I did back in high school, even though we are far apart. So no, don't give up going to the college you want for a girl. BUT, don't just break up with her off the cuff. If you meet a new girl in college and want to be with her instead, then that's fine. However, if you get to college and find that you really wanted to stay with your current girlfriend regardless of distance, then you will regret losing her because of something so trivial. If the relationship you have is strong enough, being far away won't matter.

TL;DR Everyone has a different experience; go to college and try the long distance thing, what's the worst that could happen??

Don't listen to these guys telling you not to go for it. I did a year away from my boyfriend while he was in college 2 states away and I was still in high school, and it sucked. We had been dating for two years at that point.
Then we talked about it, and I ended up going to college where he was and that's where I am now and I'm loving it! It's not the college I always thought I'd go to, but it has the exact same degree program as the other one, so it's not like I'm giving anything up. Me and my boyfriend haven't been better, and its awesome to know hes basically right next door if I ever need him. We're almost at three years now and I'm so happy I made this decision.

TL:DR; Go to be with your girl if you don't have to give anything up like your degree program or massive scholarships. It's worth it:)

Correct. I WAS in high school. How would I not understand? I saw my boyfriend once every four months during my senior year. Can you tell me that you've been in a long distance relationship and made it last for a year, and are still going strong today?
No? Then you can stfu.

College is going to be a drag/bore anywhere you go. Went to different colleges myself and they all were boring. Would much rather have someone i care about that can relate to the situation i am in than being alone. If you see an occupation you can learn at her college that would interest you, go with her. Otherwise don't get stuck getting a degree in something you don't want. And also don't let people make you believe that once you go to a certain college you are stuck there. Many colleges have credit transfers.

So I'm doing this actually. I already got accepted and I am going to the same college as her next year. We talk about marriage all of the time, so I think we're pretty serious about this relationship. I also got lucky though because the college has the major I want the most and I think that if we do end up breaking up I'll be alright. We've been dating for 9 months. What's your thoughts on this FJ?

If neither of you are holding each other back, then this seems like a good idea.

Continue your relationship, it sounds pretty good.

If your relationship is strong enough that you feel you could get married out of it, i think you could handle a few years at different colleges, given that you still see her when you need to. But these relationships are also very taxing sometimes. It is YOUR life however, and if you want to go to a college to study a certain subject, you should have nothing holding you back from the future that you want.

Here's a story for you. When my high school girlfriend and I graduated after having been together for 3 years, she was offered a chance to go work and study in a great hospital and she would have been guaranteed a great career in nursing and she gave it up because it was in another city. After 5 moths of us living together and me going to a university we realized we weren't right for each other anymore and she missed out on a great career opportunity. 3 years later she's still waiting tables and not in school.
