For all Americans who don't get why we call it soccer, lemme give ya a history lesson.

American Football started in the late 1800s and was organized in the 1920s. Back then, kicking was considered more important that running, so a field goal was worth 6 points. As running became more important, its worth increased and kicking decreased, but the name never changed. Soccer is slang for Association Football. Now here's a picture of what 4chan's /sp/ calls its sports.

There is a boob on the right column. A bare boob. That's as many as one bare boob. And that's terrible.

Not sure if ****

Americans did not come up with the term 'soccer' at all. The English did, as an abbreviation of the term 'association football', the same as Rugby Football was shortened to Ruggers. Americans adopted the term because when soccer became popular in the U.S. there was already an American form of football.

Well, I agree soccer is a dumb name

But here are the facts
1.Americans call futball soccer so they don't get it confused with American Football
2.American Football is called football because the ball used to play it is a foot in length
3.Americans don't use the metric system because when they declared independence from Britain, they didn't want anything to do with them. So they changed as much as they could.

I don't like either sport, and I think they're both dumb names. I'm a rugby player
Pic mildly related

Didn't Britain use the American system back when America became independent?
User avatar #662 to #660 - dtcrawl (03/25/2012) [-]
I haven't heard that ever, but I dunno, maybe :P Look it up
User avatar #667 to #662 - givehimthemulk (03/25/2012) [-]
Maybe they'd switched before then, but I know that whole system was created in England in the first place lol
#708 to #631 - monstamunchies (03/25/2012) [-]
1. Football (soccer) was around long before american football.
2. ...
3. The metric system is French, and was only adopted by Britain almost a hundred years after the American Revolution.

#1656 to #1631 - justlemonz (03/26/2012) [-]
