User avatar #359 to #346 - cadencee (03/06/2012) [-]
It isnt even written in English, who are you to correct someone else's spelling on a translated name?
#351 to #346 - AnonymousTheGreat (03/06/2012) [-]
Don't be a retard. Just because the movie is called "IP Man", doesn't mean that has to be his name. They're both his name. You can spell it either way. There's your small dog, buddy.

I'd like to ssee what he could've done if he entered MMA or any other real combat sport.

apperantly his weight was 160-170 pounds, so he'd probably fight at lightweight or featherweight in the UFC. Or possibly 170 if he chose to not worry about weight cuts.

But I really don't think he'd last very long against Jose Aldo, or Clay Guida, or BJ Penn, or GSP.

Well if you think about it, it is all about setting, if you placed them in a circle cage, the MMA fighter would have the advantage, as Bruce lee may not be used to the enclosed environment, also, with the pic, the very idea of technique is to not allow yourself to be opened up for such a devastating blow, something in which Bruce excelled.
User avatar #368 to #360 - jinjo (03/07/2012) [-]
I'm saying IF he trained to be a mixed martial artist, how would he do? And really he doesn't have any actual combat feats, he's a black belt in like 40 diffrent disiplines of martial arts, but if he was capable of applying it in a fight against other people trained to fight, is a completely different question.

about 90% of what people know Bruce Lee for is feats he's accomplished in movies, he doesn't have any 'actual fighting' in competition on his resume.
User avatar #370 to #368 - cadencee (03/07/2012) [-]
Have you ever tried to fight a blackbelt in karate? trust me, they all know how to apply it, otherwise it would be useless, the fact that he was a blackbelt in 40 different martial arts pretty much tells you to steer clear of a fight with this guy, as he would know how to block, counter and destroy other blackbelts of other styles, as they are more prone to falling into routine and relying on the blocks to their own style (i.e Kungfu) an be unprepared for new strikes. The thing is, Bruce lee was an expert at using space, it is unlikely a modern day MMA fighter could bring him to the ground, simply because they are used to ground fighting to be something that the other competitor would be looking for as well. if that makes sense.
User avatar #371 to #370 - jinjo (03/07/2012) [-]
There's no real evidence to back that up entirely. You're going by assumption, not any fact :/

User avatar #372 to #371 - cadencee (03/08/2012) [-]
Of course i am, Bruce lee never entered any official competitions, and there are very few (if any) videos of Bruce lee seriously sparring (competitively). So the entire idea is hypothetical, you cannot compare a modern day MMA fighter to a deceased martial arts master and back it up with facts, it is all speculation, to say otherwise is pure foolishness.
User avatar #373 to #372 - jinjo (03/08/2012) [-]
I'm not, nd it would be foolish, but I really think as a fan of MMA, ad matial arts, that Bruce Lee wouldn't be that effective against somebody else with training.
User avatar #374 to #373 - cadencee (03/08/2012) [-]
It is different, the discipline and experience that Bruce lee acquired is far superior than that of any mixed martial artists, i cannot prove this because there would be too much information to go through but that is my belief, Martial arts master > MMA world champion. that is my view
User avatar #375 to #374 - jinjo (03/08/2012) [-]
Discipline I'd agree, but that isn't exactly always enough to win a fight.

User avatar #376 to #375 - cadencee (03/08/2012) [-]
Look, Bruce lee was often compared to Chuck norris as equals, Chuck said this himself, so imagine if Chuck norris fought a mma fighter who would win? i believe chuck norris.
User avatar #377 to #376 - jinjo (03/08/2012) [-]
Really..?

Chuck's fighting weight was 168 (so he'd be more than that naturally), but that's the Welterweight devision. A very stacked, well rounded devision. I wouldn't think he'd win against some one like GSP, or Nick Diaz, Jon Fitch or BJ Penn.
User avatar #378 to #377 - cadencee (03/08/2012) [-]
Chuck norris was reknown as the ultimate fighter. regardless of which martial art, size isnt everything and chuck norris wasnt small, have you ever taken a kick to the temple? no matter who you are, that is a knock out
#379 to #378 - jinjo (03/08/2012) [-]
If it lands yea.

And even so, not always.

Do you watch any MMA? People take shots like that quite often. And a danger of throwing excessive kicks against someone like GSP often leads to takedowns or devastating counters. If it's a takedown, you're probably not getting up and are going to take a beating. People who specialize in ground fighting can't handle his ground abilities. BJ Penn, was the first non-Brazilian to ever win the world jiu jitsu championship in the black belt level and couldn't stop GSP's ground offense. He's outstruck extremely decorated strikers as well, Thiago Alves (best kicks in MMA), BJ Penn, (once considered the best boxer in MMA), and Dan Hardy.

Karo Parisyan (highlight video- www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZn8YQxEg2k ) was useless against him as well.

also you are talking of ONE fighter, if he is the one of the best then there is a chance that he was even if not better than bruce, that is not to say that mma beats martial arts (Karate, kung fu etc) because it all comes down to the fighters proficiency
User avatar #380 to #379 - cadencee (03/08/2012) [-]
it is a completely different type of martial art, the mma fighters tend to overextend themselves when it comes to landing powerful blows, i have seen many attempt to open with them, or dropping their guard, you are compairing mma fighters against others, and Bruce lee did not specialise in BJJudo or Judo he was much lighter on his feet, with the tactics of hit and dodge back, hit and dodge back, looking for an opening, i have watched mma and they open themselves up whenever they go for a takedown, a mistake that Bruce would not make, as that was not his speciality

I take kung fu, and my teacher's teacher was taught by bruce lee. So not a direct connection but still kinda sweet!

How about this guy, Matt Larsen? He pretty much singlehandedly created the modern system of Army Combatives, which combines traditional hand-to-hand combat techniques with martial-arts moves and encourages its students to adapt and regain the upper hand in pretty much any situation. I wonder how he would fare against the great Oriental martial arts masters.
