Spain Myths
c" Antilles
Antilles is a legendary lost island found west of Spain, and was thought
to be an island of fortune. During the time of the Muslims conquest of
Hispania, 7 christian Visigoth's (a branch of Goth) bishops fled, landing
on an island in the West where the made 7 settlements. The island has
been lost since, and has been only heard and searched for as of the
1500' s. Although since then, the legends still wanders, there has been no
sightings since.
Sack Man
The Sack Man is very similiar to that of the boogey man, has been
described in many different ways, with many different stories behind
this monster/ man. The story goes that the Sack man is an incredibly old,
incredibly ugly man that walks through the streets at night and takes
children who have misbehaved and put them and his sack, and they are
never seen again.
Black , g
The Black Legend refers to the historical writing which demonized the
conquistadores. They were highly exaggerated the treatment indigenous
such as Protestants and Jews in territory. Above shows a picture of them
feed severed body parts of woman and children to dogs.
Cuco
The cuco is very similiar to that of the boogeyman and sack man, in the
sence that the children would be taken away if they misbehaved.
However the appearance of it is much different, seen as a darker form,
seen sometimes as a human, alligator, or even a dragon.
A rhyme, translated, is often spreaded as a child:
sleep child, sleep now...
or the cuco will come and eat you."
Bull
Legend goes that a christian monarch attacked the moors of Valencia,
but did not have the upper hand since the night before when the moors
caught wild bulls and fastened wood to the horns of the bulls, (and this
is my favorite part) setting the wood on tire and stampeding them at the
christians. Although they had the upper hands, christians defeated
the moors, along with the bulls. Except one. During their celebration,
upon the hill stood one of the bulls, with the tire still burning the wood,
and with its head faced to the sky, a star was seen between the burning
horns. One christian shouted "He has been converted to our side."
And they built a city where the bull stood.
Is that dobby?)
A Duende is a fairy or goblin like create that could, if you looked hard
enough, be found in many parts of europe, but mostly Spain. Nothing
really different then the other little creatures, but still creepy to see one.
I have no idea where to start or end with this thing, so Iwill just release
some information in no particular order. Like usual.
So really its just this monsterous half man half wolf, although its not
always a wolf, that pretty much just use to fuck things up. I wish I knew
more cause it seems pretty badass, but I don' t.
Still worth mentioning though.
