It seems to me that a lot of atheists have an almost irrefutable need to constantly have their ego stroked and opinions affirmed by mostly small-minded pseudo intellectuals, and assert themselves superior to all "stupid, ignorant religious people". It seems that many of them have this incessant desire to degrade people with religious beliefs to something almost subhuman; something to be held in contempt for their repugnant moralities and tainted reason.

Why is it that they must constantly hear how right they are? Is it because they are insecure about their supposedly open minded, reasonable beliefs? They arrogantly claim to have empirical evidence; to have science and logic on their side, but I always fail to see what and how. They scoff at anyone with a belief besides their own, whilst hypocritically ridiculing their philosophical opponents for the very same vices they're notorious for doing. In addition, they often have a truly virulent animosity towards the people they disagree with, more so than religious people in general.

This is just a simple observation. Don't misunderstand, I don't mean to offend my fellow FJ'ers who identify themselves as Atheists. Some of my best friends say they don't believe in God, and God knows there are a lot of ignorant, arrogant, hostile religious people as well. I just feel that the one philosophy, namely Atheism, seems to cultivate a lot more people with the negative traits I've mentioned, than the other. I can't help but wonder what that's a manifestation of.

To be honest, I'm also quite sick of these posts. I don't find them funny, and although the author of the second comment is definitely a bright and articulate person, I still sense he's an arrogant jackass. These posts are solely designed to fuel the fires of an already bloated ego. Ergo, they are not entertaining.

"It seems to me that a lot of atheists have an almost irrefutable need to constantly have their ego stroked and opinions affirmed by mostly small-minded pseudo intellectuals." So do the religious. What is church but a bit session of "Aren't we all so clever that we picked the right god out of hundreds?"

"It seems that many of them have this incessant desire to degrade people with religious beliefs to something almost subhuman; something to be held in contempt for their repugnant moralities and tainted reason. " I wouldn't say that. I would say that we're ridiculing their beliefs, but not necessarily the person. If the person cannot separate themselves from their religion and take our criticisms of their beliefs as criticisms of the individual, then that lies on them. My atheism gets insulted all the time, but I don't take it personally.

"Why is it that they must constantly hear how right they are? Is it because they are insecure about their supposedly open minded, reasonable beliefs? " Once again, the religious have the same traits. They go to church every week to see how right they are.
"They arrogantly claim to have empirical evidence; to have science and logic on their side, but I always fail to see what and how. " Well, the fact is we have yet to have scientific, empirical evidence of a god. That is how it is on our side.
"In addition, they often have a truly virulent animosity towards the people they disagree with, more so than religious people in general. " Umm, well, for one, many teens are kicked out of their houses for being atheists. I have yet to hear of a story of a religious teen being kicked out of his house by his atheist parents. Also, I have never heard of a suicide bomber for atheism.

"This is just a simple observation. Don't misunderstand, I don't mean to offend my fellow FJ'ers who identify themselves as Atheists." and I think the atheist community at large doesn't really want to hurt the religious. However, offense shouldn't be a bad thing.

You sir, just read my mind. I find it funny that if someone shows hate towards religion it is justified but it is not justified for a man of religion to defend himself. I have many Atheist friends and i find it so irritating how they think they are so much smarter than me because i believe in "The Floating man in the Sky" like im some ******* cave man, but the funny part is they know nothing about evolution or science and they are very naive. They think they are better than me and they bash my religion without any provocation thinking that they are right and i am wrong. If they are so open-minded then why can they not listen to my beliefs? Also it pisses me off when Atheists get angry at someone for being religious. Like ******* Nazis. I'm getting really ******* sick of these Atheists with huge egos. And they also say how Christians hate people with diff. beliefs but what do Atheists do? If i said "I LOVE GOD!" on a random thread Atheists would somehow get offended and bitch at me believing in something they don't. They arn't much diff. from the Christians they judge and insult. And they call Christians the ignorant ones.

Jeez... I know that athiests like to protect their beliefs from crazy christians and what not
( I myself am not a very religious person) but this whole passage could really offend anyone with a passion for their religion and yet it has a lot of thumbs. I'm sorry atheists but this is a little too harsh. Not all of religion is bad. again I'm the most religious person but i've witnessed religion bring out the good in a lot people. thumb me down but i don't see how anyone could applaud this person other than the fact that they have something against religious people. i can understand if you encounter one of those dumbasses who think that being gay is a sin and other stupid **** but that isn't the majority of us the religious people. And by calling ALL of us evil isn't that just as bad?
#325 to #275 - Drageads (04/04/2012) [-]
I don't think we've ever called theists all evil, just misinformed or indoctrinated.

im just saying you can thumb me down if you want... I dont care.. I just wanted to get my point across. I have nothing against athiests or anyone. Overall i'm just saying a lot people could find this message insulting.

Everyone gets persecuted for their beliefs. Why should Christians be any different?
#326 to #282 - Drageads (04/04/2012) [-]
I think we should just not persecute period. Also, making fun of does not equal persecution. Being denied rights, like atheists are in Arkansas (Atheists cannot run for office or be used as a witness in a trial), is persecution.

I'm cool with buddhists because unlike Christians they don't believe in logical fallacies.

Im not really religious nor am i specifically christian but this post is a perfect example. It is someone saying they are religious and getting thumbed down by egotistic atheists (well at least it was thumbed down by 3 earlier today) What is wrong in believing something even if others do not. If someone wants to believe in a higher power that can not explained, let them. It isn't hurting anyone most of the time.

a prime example of what? that someone who isn't manipulated by an old man sitting on a cloud in your head can see what you block out? everything in this picture is justifiable. Atheists refuse to believe in a 2000 year old story that has been distorted threw word of mouth tellings. religion tells us to ignore what science has proved true beyond reasonable doubt, because "that's not what the book says' (ie. dinosaur bones being planted to disprove God, because the earth is only 2000 years old according to your book, once again no matter what science proves)
your move.
