Autism is truly fascinating; the disorder inhibits socio-communication skills, but leaves creativity and memory capacity. I saw this documentary on an autistic pianist who could play any song simply by hearing it one time because the piano was almost all he knew how to do. A friend of mine has an autistic brother, and he uses music as an outlet of expression and creativity.

I myself am on the autism spectrum. I don't have any amazing talents that I know of because I have just a low form of autism that it doesn't affect me as much as some. However socially I do suffer. I have quirks I wish I didn't have, I have trouble with eye contact. I have memory trouble in some areas while I excel in others. Sometimes I see advantages but other times I wish I had a neurotypical brain.

really? maybe it's because he's still kinda young, but my brother really hasnt show any type of creativity. But he loves to run and play and laugh. He may be annoying but i love him so much

I'm still trying to get it under control. I've been able to train myself to somewhat undo some of the negative effects but I got a late start, not even knowing I had it until just recently. I suspected it for years but didn't think much of it until I got unofficially diagnosed. I think I've been doing well for myself so far. I just gotta keep working on improving myself.

Yeah I know. If I keep at it I'll be just fine. I've even started writing a blog about my various challenges that arise with it. I find it quite interesting so I've decided to document it.

There are certain neurological disorders that interest me a lot. Autism, ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia...I like to study them and figure out the reasons for these things.

If you want to see the blog, it's right here.

My younger brother has autism. When he was younger, he would get all his toys and line them up according to size, color, etc. Now he's 11 and I've noticed now that he likes to take apart his toys and random objects around the house with a screwdriver, and put them together again, trying to figure out how they work.
Pic unrelated.

For everyone who is confused, I'd like to clear a few things up, just so we can all be on the same page.

Not all people with autism are geniuses; autism is a disorder that changes neural development. It it typically characterized by hindered social interactions and restricted/repetitive behavior. What many of you are thinking of is a Savant.
Savants are individuals who have highly limited social skills, but are amazingly talented in a certain way. The correlation between Savants and autistic people is understandable, since about 50% of Savants are autistic.

The man in the picture is most likely a Savant, hence his amazing memory and ability to draw immense detail from one helicopter ride and recreate it as a drawing.

I personally am in awe of any work by Savants; they are truly amazing individuals who deserve the utmost respect. I just wanted to clear up any confusion on the topic, since I saw some uncertainty in previous comments. I hope my knowledge on the subject has helped you all!
