Yeah 50 cent is so shitty you should feel bad for listening to... woah how'd I get on the bandwagon? Well anyways 50 is a damn good rapper for those of of you don't know, and also people pay him money for what he does, he didn't steal it. If you feel he shouldn't be that rich... well I guess it just fucking sucks for you doesn't it?
That's like saying you're not going to buy any more Coka Cola because the CEO of Coca Cola is rich.
Whether you choose to feel guilty or not is your business, just make sure you remember that you are in fact violating the recording artists' rights whenever you "pirate" their music.
Because the only thing worse than being a thief is adding insult to injury by claiming that you're not really stealing.

But you aren't physically taking anything from them. You are simply keeping them from earning money that they wouldn't have otherwise. In addition, they hardly get a fraction of the total money that the piece sells for so the real "person" that you are hurting is the record label.
> You are simply keeping them from earning money that they wouldn't have otherwise.
OMG. Spoken like a Congressman. Is that you, Barney? Or is it Mr. "Paying Taxes Is Voluntary" Harry Reid?
That's the definition of "stealing" and you're trying to make it sound like it's not stealing. Incredible.
> In addition, they hardly get a fraction of the total money that the piece sells for so the real "person" that you are hurting is the record label.
It's not your right to decide whether the person who created the music will receive their fraction. That fraction belongs to them, they are the only party who can rightfully decide whether or not to give it away.
You're disgusting, anon.

I see. So you own these people, and therefore have the right to control your slaves' earnings in order to force them to perform live for you.
While we're at it, let's go down to the cotton field and bring 5 or 6 of your melon munchers back up to the house so that they can tap-dance for us in the mud out in front of your house. I'll bring a washboard and a jug for them to play, too. It will be a great time. For us, at least.
Sig heil!

The funny thing is that they hardly even use all of the expensive, useless features in their house and they only live there for about a month a year because of tours, random vacations or some shit.
sad truth is that most of the money from the album sales go to the producers and record label. but pirating still takes a good portion of the money away from the artists.
my main argument for pirating is if you like a band but only like one song, you should check out the rest of their work but may be discouraged by the price of buying all the albums. so to keep artists true to their roots of when they made it big, most tell themselves that they're doing it for the music and what they love. so they don't need my $9.99
problem, greedy musicians/hollywood/mpaa?

I can't afford to buy so much music but if its an artist I truely like such as RHCP I do buy the albums. I just think music should be more like firefox or ubuntu. You don't have to pay by force but if you want them to be able to continue making stuff contribute that way poorer people like me can also enjoy and contribute when they can afford it.

When a rapper gets pissed off that his 99 cent song gets downloaded for free, when he's sitting in his massive mansion, sipping whatever he's drinking from a golden cup.
Yeah, it kinda is.
They're rich, I don't honestly think that me downloading their music for free is going to hurt them. They make hundreds of thousands of dollars a month.
Now if we're talking about bands or artists that don't make millions a year, then yeah, I'll pay for their music if it means I can support them

Yes, that's the "logic" at work here. Which basically means that you can steal most things, if you feel like it. Feel hungry? Go to McDonald's and steal a burger. If the kid behind the counter tries to stop you, just tell him: "The McDonald's CEO is so rich, he doesn't need my money anymore!"
After all, the kid behind the counter uses the same logic when he downloads music, so I'm sure he'll give you a pinkies-up and lets you go.

well certainly dickheads like that don't deserve the money, however many struggling artists get ripped off from piracy all the same.
Which is why, if you truly love the music, you should go out and buy the album of those struggling artists. as it goes:
Download -> Love -> buy album to support awesome band
OR
Download -> Hate -> delete, no money lost in the process

If I'm not sure if I want to buy an album, I youtube a majority of the songs to see if I like them. If I don't, then I don't buy. The only times I pirate music is when I don't have the money but will have the money in the future. In the end, everything balances out to legal.

Yes, that is true, but someone who downloads music doesn't care. That whole "They are already rich" bullshit is just a way for people to make themselves feel better about downloading music. 1% of the people who call themselves "professional" musicians are actually rich. A large portion of musicians need a second job to support themselves or have to do stuff they hate, like playing in advertisement jingles. These people are being hurt severely by illegal downloads and certainly can't laugh about the "They don't need our money." nonsense.
I think most people don't realize how expensive it actually is to produce music. It costs a shitload of money to rent a studio and equipment. You need a producer who knows what he is doing. You need sound engineers. Yes, sure, you can do this by yourself in your garage - and then you have a thousand people complaining on your website that your music sounds like crap, so they will not pay for it and just download it. Duh.
The simple fact is: If you produce a song in decent quality and everybody downloads it instead of paying for it, then it will possibly be the last song you have ever produced, because you'll spend the next year burger-flipping in the nightshift to pay off your debt.
So if everyone downloads music, then I wonder: Who will still be stupid enough to produce any?

im pretty sure the film, music and other industries of the like dont need any more financial support than they already have..
Then again he probably got more than half of his money from vitamin water.

Last time I checked www.beemp3.com is a good one for 'mainstream' music.. I don't mean to sound like a hipster but it's true.
