In case you hadn't heard, Megaupload has been taken down.

Thursday, March sst 2012 to Saturday 31st March 2012
With the continuing campaigns for litigation such as and PIPA, and
the closure of sites such as Megaupload under allegations of 'piracy' and 'conspiracy' the time
has come to take a stand against music, film and media companies' lobbyists.
The only way is to hit them where it truly hurts.
Their profit margins.
March 2012 is the end of the sst quarter in economic reports worldwide.
Do not buy a single record. Do not download a single song, legally or illegally. Do not go to see
a single film in cinemas, or download a copy, Do not buy a DVD in the stores. Do not buy a
videogame. Do not buy a single book or magazine.
Wait the at weeks to buy them in April: see the film later, etc. Holding out for just all weeks,
maximum, will leave a gaping hole in media and entertainment companies' profits for the sst
quarter, an economic hit which will in turn be observed by governments worldwide as stocks
and shares will blip from a large enough loss of incomes.
This action can give a statement of intent:
We will not tolerate the Media Industries' lobbying
for legislation which will censor the internet."

Even though I support this to a degree, I don't 100%. A better thing to do is research who is supporting the bill and BOYCOTT them and their goods. Not every company is supporting it. Punish the ones that are trying to ruin the internet(Disney, CBS, Walmart, Hollywood, Sony, Microsoft, etc.), and not the ones that are against the bill or neutral. And follow homeuax comment #5's advice. Make a difference yourself and call those who vote FOR YOU on the bill. And if you're over 18, VOTE FOR YOUR REPS!!! You do make a difference!!!

ok to Drop on Something here, The only reason Some People Pirate is cause the Service of the companies is a Big ball of **** . Let me Bring a Good example of Great Service, Steam is so far the best Service ever.

1. let's say you pay about 70$ for a Video Game and let's say your brother or someone or even your careless self Breaks it, Loses it or Scratches it to a point it can't be used anymore. you wont go back to the store and pay 70$ again you wouldn't even go pay 50$ because you already paid a fair price of 70$ for the game, so what do people do? since legally they bought it they believe they are allowed all the right to have the game back no matter what and this is where Steam Beats everyone because they allow you to download it from their Site because in their System is Registered that you have already Purchased the game. so its a Win\Win. and like Valve them self's said the Best way to Stop Piracy is to give a better service than the Pirates and believe me, there has been less Pirates since Steam.

Great Idea. Should be renamed though. Black March doesn't exactly have strong historical connotations.

In case you hadn't heard, SOPA and PIPA are postponed until further notice.

so the **** what? does that magically mean the bill has vanished? it's still there, just not up for debate at the moment. it's still going to affect us later on when it does come back up.
User avatar #2 - darkoneten (01/20/2012) [-]
but they were pirating, so this makes no sense. This is why the SOPA protest is ******** , people only want their free stuff. ********

this bill tells the government to treat everyone. according to the bill, is a mom posts a video of her baby with a song in the background or a video on tv, its considered piracy and facebook could be shut down because of it. its going to extremes seen only by countries like syria, iran, and other countries hell bent on restricting free will.
User avatar #9 to #3 - darkoneten (01/20/2012) [-]
what you are talking about is extreme, and sounds more like SOPA stuff than what happend with megaupload.

Im not supporting anything that you describe, im simply saying that this site was ACTIVLY PIRATING. It was going out of its way to host illegal material. And yet, for some reason, you all think its some great injustice that this site was taken down?!?!

I call ******** .

I've said it all along, no one on the user side wants to see the end of piracy because they get a bunch of free **** . That dosent mean it should still be allowed.
User avatar #4 to #3 - ILIEKPEPSEE ONLINE (01/20/2012) [-]
treat everyone like a criminal*

You arent concerned with the fact that it interferes with web security and the basic structure of the internet?

People that pirate can easily get around it. The Pirate Bay for example already has several hundred domains that they can simply switch to, and you can bypass all SOPA/PIPA blocking by just typing in the IP Address. The only people that truly suffer are legitimate individuals and domains.

Also, while Black March will show that people are fed up with this **** , it wont hurt the RIAA/MPAA hardly at all, as the companies/distributors pay for the rights to sell content ahead of time. You will only directly be hurting the middleman.

If you really want to make a difference, write to your congressman and attend any town hall meetings.
