Religion at its finest.

EDIT : First of all, thanks for the support. Second of all, damn, I got a lot of hate for this, lol.

Look, I'm not trying to make religion look evil, I'm just pointing out the fact that it's often used in an evil way.
Everything that religious people did that was good - was good. Judging is always a bad thing.

Credit to some guy from Reddit who made it. Sorry I stole it, but I'm sure you don't mind me spreading the message.
I mean, this isn't a rage comic, this is a meaningful picture, so.. yes, I hope you understand.

You don't have a problem with religion.
You have a problem with people.

This probably won't go over well but...

Yes it's a long post, but it also raises a valid discussion. That's why when I get to the comments I'm always a little bit disappointed when the top one is "You reached the comments" or "Dubs get". These comments are always expected and get a little old. Sometimes I like either an original joke or a point of interest to pique my curiosity.

Anyone else feel this way?

i feel the same way, i way actually quite sickened reading this. i can't believe that such people exists, and that they're able to do such things to each other, because of other peoples religion or believes?

As an atheist, I don't hate religion. I just hate the people who take it too far
Everyone should be free to believe whatever they want, but it's not an excuse to act like a dick

Most extremists believe in some ****** up **** and they use religion as an excuse for it which I believe is wrong. Most religion promotes peace and it disgusts me how people use gods name to hurt others

Okay, you make a good point, and I won't refute the fact that religion can make people crazy.

But religion didn't cause these people to bang their heads against the wall. It's bigotry. It's narrow-minds. It's stupidity under the guise of religion.

Just like how the media blames video games for violence. It was never video games- it was the stupid person behind the controller. They use religion as their excuse, but it's stupidity that does this.
User avatar #1157 to #24 - JKay (01/18/2012) [-]
All major religions instruct their followers to kill homosexuals. To subjugate women (etc etc etc the image was long enough)...

It is religions fault._
#1196 to #1157 - TheCynic (01/18/2012) [-]
First of all, no, not every major religion claims that homosexuals need to die. The New Testament sure doesn't.

Second of all, it's the people behind the book that carry out what they think they should. People decide for themselves what is right and what is wrong. People interpret things their own way. Blaming religion is like blaming the movie "Terms of Endearment" for suicide. Religion is an excuse.

It's Humanity.
Humans are so thick that they can't accept any new information, so they destroy every new piece of information, every new idea, every new perspective, because they don't want to handle the truth, not because they can't.
User avatar #1207 to #1098 - TheCynic (01/18/2012) [-]
People dislike being challenged, or facing any sort of change. It's very easy for people to slip into a state of denial or allow themselves to think irrationally to avoid it. It's human nature to be thick.
User avatar #968 to #24 - weaselandahalf (01/18/2012) [-]
To add to what you said: Religion gives that bigotry and narrow mindedness a forum.
User avatar #29 to #24 - Callfall (01/17/2012) [-]
But you can't disprove that Metroid never happened. I hope you will see that light soon.

Reading all that stuff just makes you shiver, I've got friends who believe in God some believe in the character some believe in the Superior existence named "God", I myself am somewhere between Agnostic and Doubter. Along with our religious discussions we have often come across the dark sides of Faith and have come to the conclusion that among our friends all follow their Faith as in a code of living happily and well, not as an absolute series of rules to be fanatically followed. One of my pals once said "I'm in Faith, so why should I abandon my faith and follow a book written by people of that faith, as a code of facts? Is that not the same as Abandoning my faith in Gods guidance to follow a book that is not even written by him? Why should i listen to some "Man of Faith" talking to me about Gods plans for his "Chosen people", when God can choose to guide every man himself. I live in faith the way God wants me to, for i have faith that when God wants to guide me he'll do it, maybe in a way I will never notice, but i believe he will." -An extremely smart man. And to clear out, in that quote "Every man" and referring to god as a man, is only a form of speech and should be considered Gender neutral.

That is a very very interesting view. So basically, you're saying that the Bible and Christianity are two very separate things? That's an outlook I doubt very many people have even considered. Good for you for thinking outside the box.

I also take comfort and knowing that the Bible is a book that has been interpreted a thousand times before, and I doubt we'll ever see one that was interpreted correctly. After all, it was written by man. If there is a God, I doubt he's the homophobic white guy with the beard and severe narcissism.
#4033 to #2635 - mindlessmindless (01/18/2012) [-]
I agree with both of you. I rarely talk about religion, it's not something I care much of, but this post sickens me. I looked up a couple of the articles and videos on here to see the whole thing and they're frightening. My mom and I have talked about 'eye for an eye' punishment, and we understands very well that that way of punishment, is a terrible decision, but the only time it ever crosses our mind is when we see this sick **** on the news, like all the stuff in this post. Sometimes I feel like half the churches that are around all of us, are frauds that are only in it for the sake of the income and support form the government. When it comes to religion in my opinion, as xzenoo said, I'd rather live under a "god" that wants me to be healthy and prosper, rather than listen to rules and do certain rituals that will make me a perfect person. I'm 18, and I don't really advertise my opinion because I feel like the teenage stereotype will demote me, and I'll get responses from people like "You just wanna have sex, smoke weed, and get drunk, you silly teenager you", when that's completely false. I mean... I do want drink, smoke, and have fun, but that's exactly the point I'm trying to make. I want to feel happy, not controlled, and I feel like some people can't tell the difference between those 2 feelings.
User avatar #4063 to #4033 - TheCynic (01/18/2012) [-]
My thoughts exactly. Religion is and has always been an excuse. There's a difference between faith and religion. Religion is a business. Faith is just that- faith. My personal issues with the Bible is simply that it puts, "I work in mysterious ways" as a means of explaining things with no logic behind them. Fighting logic with a being that defies logic boggles my mind. I'd like to think that God would want me to use my given free will and mind for the better- not to ignore it.

actually i don't believe in evolution...

I ******* KNOW THAT EVOLUTION IS TRUE, LOOK AT THE MIRROR...

after i read the first 6 Boxes i get little bit bored and scroll down, because i know that religion isn't something beautiful , only if you fear the death.
Religion is something terrible, where some people uses the naivety of other, to get control of them. At the same time say don't believe in her god, why else has the pope a mobile with bulletproof glass?

Ever read Sacrilege from Dan Brown?

Maye its just a Story/Book

But there are stands some more behind the book then just a few historians.

I think there is more reality in the book then we want.

Believe what u want, but i don't believe religions was created to help propels, I know they are created to make a kind of a kingdoms- to control and organize people. And as a leader- to use some benefits like the pope.

Just look at the history of the Christians

but there are some exception, a monk of the Buddhism for example don't have and want to own. But the leader of something like Scientology and Christian-churches do own a lot and don't give a lot at the same time.

Religion is just a lie to make some people richer and mightier like a state.

We should not be mad at religion, we should be mad at religious extremist, religion gives some people the will to live and move one with the promise of something more after their love ones and yourself bit the dust. I am a religious man, i believe in god, but not in the church, and i know more then a few people who are the same, we respect other people and their religions, and how they live, as everyone should, and should not try to force feed our beliefs on others, this is to all, ahteist, jewish, musilm, christians, and ESPECIALLY jehovas witnesses, if we want religion we look for it, one way or another. One of Christianities principles is to love one another, is about ******* time we started acting like it!

We should be mad to idiots, religious or not. Just idiots. I dont care if people are white, black, asian, muslim, christian, gay, etc. Idiots are the cancer of this world. Worst of all, you are forced to watch as their idiocy tears the world apart
User avatar #3394 to #3347 - Procean (01/18/2012) [-]
the problem with that is that the 'smart people' are minorities in the world, smart people have a harder time finding mates because we care if they like us or not, and will spend time with them, making sure their right for us, 'idiots' dont care, and simply get married to the first person that shows true interest, for whatever reason, when 'smart people' finally find a mate, we hesitate to have a child or to even have sex, we know the responsibilities and we slow things down until were ready, 'idiots' do it till their tired and only think about kids when the girl get pregnant, 'smart people' can sometimes die with their one mate, and have an average of one to two children, 'idiots' run around having kids with any other 'idiot' that will shack up with them, and end up having more then five kids in their name before their thirty, and their kids usually dont fall far from the tree. Deal with it bro, the 'smart people' will ALWAYS be outnumbered by the 'idiots' simply because 'smart people' know what it means to have a child and to be with someone for the rest of our lives, 'idiots' only think about that in the moment it happens.

how about instead of blaming all the bad things people do on religion or lack there of, we blame the actions of crazy people on the fact that THEY'RE ******* CRAZY and not on whatever religion/philosophy/flying-spaghetti-monster they happen to follow.

Only the bad ones make the big headlines, if you haven't noticed. I find it odd that my church doesn't make headlines for donating TONS to charity, as all churches do. But no, you're right, we're horrible people. Joking. Christians are taken out of context so much. There are bad ones. There are bad Muslims. There are bad Atheists. Trust me, I know plenty of them. I have a freaking Neo-Nazi friend who is an Atheist. Give us a chance. We're not all bad. I promise.

Why can't everyone just chill the **** out.

Also the christian girl who hopes non believers are raped...she should except the fact we don't believe and should want to share her joy with use in hopes to convert us with love, not threats.

Isn't that what you prophet would do?

I like Christ' ideas of love and peace and of tolerance, but I do not like Christians who think non-believers should be raped into faith, and shot if they refuse to believe. Which unfortunately in about 98% of them.

P.S. I'm and atheist.
