**zkarekrow rolled a random image posted in comment #1 at Floppy balloon ** the fact that humans think they are capable of destroying their own planet is sheer folly. sure, we can blow the **** out of it, but a volcanic eruption is twice as bad for the ecosystem as everything we have ever done. we cannot respect ourselves but we want to respect the planet? HA! may the mother gaia kill us all and return her to her former beauty without such ignorance.

people believe in Global warming because of the rising level of the element CARBON.
To all those people. Have you ever thought that there are 7 billion people in the world breathing out carbon at once?

#47 to #34 - caledfwtch
Reply +2
(01/16/2012) [-]
First off its not carbon that's the problem. its CARBON-DIOXIDE which is a molecule not an element. Secondly the constant burring of fossil fuels releases more carbon-dioxide then us breathing. In fact our breathing probably has very little to due with carbon-dioxide because even though there are 7 bil people that biomass didn't come from nowhere. It already existed and we just reorganized it so that more of it comes from our species so the carbon-dioxide production of the 7 bil people in the world already existed and global warming only increased to its current rate after we began burning fossil fuels.

or perhaps the fact that the over-consumption of resources without creating a natural equilibrium would have some adverse side affects on our ecosystem. but even with that being said, the environment would become too hostile for us to survive before the planet was actually in danger, eliminating us from the equation and moving on as usual

100 nukes? a single nuke has a blast radius of about 5 miles.
100x5=500miles
the earths surface area is approximately 196,935,000 square miles
196,935,000/5=39,387,000
it would take about that many nukes to just destroy the surface

It's all a matter of perspective. Talking about volcanoes, that one that erupted in Iceland a couple of years ago, the amount of CO2 that was let out to the atmosphere was vast, but because there couldn't be any air travel during that time, CO2 emissions were much much lower. So in that sense, the volcano wasn't all that bad. But as I said, it's a matter of how you view things; the ash over northern Europe was terrible and many old people had problems.
What my main point is though, in the past people, along with any other species of animal in the world, learnt to live around what the world had to give us, and not tailor it to our needs.

Scientists have theorized that this "global warming" is all apart of a natural cycle of Earth where it slowly heats and the freezes over a period of a few thousand/hundred (not sure which) years or so. Scientists even predict the possibility of a small ice age occurring in the next century.

Honestly I don't think humanity's industrialism has made THAT much of a change.

Well for starters, the ice caps that are melting could easily cause problems that would affect many different environments. Secondly the cause of the Polar icecaps melting could've easily been caused by us. Why should another species have to suffer for our actions? And yes, there probably are other groups of animals that are endangered, but scientists may not have enough information on them, or they may be completely unaware of that species until they go extinct. This is like asking me, "Why do you want starving African children to get food?"

(01/16/2012) [-]
What did you base that information on? Scientists do know of these species, just a couple months ago a species of rhino went extinct. And as for the African children getting food, we are already giving them food, your question makes no sense, if you care so much why dont you donate? PS a large majority of the money you donate, in most cases over 50 percent, goes directly in the orginizations pocket, and another big chunk into their marketing. leaving tiny portions for the actual children... It's natural selection, its been happening for millions of years

The thing is, Polar bears going extinct are part of a larger problem, that's why there's so much support for them. Ultimately if the ice caps melt, the polar bears die. So people supporting the research on icecaps, and solutions to prevent the coming issues are indirectly supporting the continuation of the Polar Bear.

Alright, everyone needs to read this. It's not about how cute polar bears are. At all. The thing about the biosphere is that all interactions are interconnected like a big web. Predation, mutualism, parasitism, and commensalism. These important interactions allow us to survive, on one level or another. Especially because we are at the top of the food chain, and live on every corner of the planet, we have to maintain each niche in every ecosystem. Polar bears die? Fish population changes. Fish changes? The ocean ecosystem will slowly mess up. It happens. And unlike small animals or birds or insects, polar bears make a big difference. They're more unique than birds or insects that each have many similar species.

While others would think it ridiculous, absurd, or even a little bit retarded to believe that people are mass-brainwashed in the first place, adding to it that we are brainwashed to feel sympathy towards an entire species of animals brings the whole thing full circle. Clearly when we were children, Green Peace broke into our homes and whispered brainwashing green phrases into our ears, like "we only have one planet" and "the power is YOURS!".
