t's true that scientists have determined that the cannabis plant has the potential for addressing a range of medical conditions. But it's also true that when you're young and your body is still growing, marijuana actually has the potential of inflicting a long-lasting, negative impact on your developing brain. Using marijuana at a young age can result in structural and functional deficits of the brain. This could cause you to develop weakened verbal and communication skills, lowered learning capabilities and a shortened attention span. In addition to the possible effects on your brain, smoking marijuana may also be hazardous to your developing lungs. Marijuana smoke contains 50% to 70% more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than tobacco smoke. The more you know. I don't care about it being legal or illegal, but seriously how about posting the bad things about it too. Makes you seem like less of an opionated ass. It has positive and negative effects.

The great thing about marijuana is you don't have to smoke it. Smoke is the only harmful part of marijuana, as the smoke itself is the carcinogen, as well as causing you to produce more stomach acid (causing the feelings of hunger). When taken as an edible medication, the smoke inhalations are not a part of the procedure and are thus much better. Taking the medication as an edible instead of inhalation also causes the effects to last longer.

Every medication has a good and bad side. You just have to look at everything.

true, but with todays system it is easier go get weed than alcohol, a dealer does not ask for your ID.
#59 to #28 - metrozak (12/27/2011) [-]
Yeah but this is the difference:
Weed= Illegal. Alcohol= Legal.
#66 to #59 - wubscripted (12/27/2011) [-]
Yes, but ask yourself why. Like really why. When Alcohol can kill you if you have too much, and cannabis just makes you at your worst this guy.
#88 to #66 - Rascal (12/27/2011) [-]
Yeah but can you put weed in your dick. Didn't think so
#98 to #59 - flomo (12/27/2011) [-]
the only thing that keeps alcohol from sharing the name narcotic is that it is legal...

I have no problem with smoking but when I have to listen to stoners rant about weed being this miracle drug that cures everything I have ******* annoyed. Marijuana does offer various benefits, like those above, but these are usually minimal and vary in effectiveness from person to person. Please don't try to tell me that weed is some amazing thing and its a travesty that its illegal. I agree making it illegal is dumb but you only want it legal so you can get high.
User avatar #48 to #47 - stukka (12/27/2011) [-]
I don't mind people being selfish - that's just human nature - but I hate it when they pretend that they want it legalized for the good of mankind. Admit it you ***** , you just want it to be easier for you to get high.
#51 to #48 - Rascal (12/27/2011) [-]
exactly, i just want the truth. The people what want weed legalized the most are 16-25 year olds, who don't have cancer, multiple sclerosis, seizures, glaucoma, or any other disease. The only thing they get from it is being able to get high, which is total fine just tell me that.
User avatar #101 to #51 - crazyhindu (12/28/2011) [-]
i have tourettes
User avatar #60 to #48 - crazyhindu (12/27/2011) [-]
no we want it legalized so its not illegal to do it so we dont get in trouble if the goverment were to start selling it you know what the tax would ******* be?
#77 to #60 - Rascal (12/27/2011) [-]
Yes, you want it legal so you can get HIGH without risking getting in trouble. The bottom line is that you want to be able to get HIGH without the risk. And the tax revenue from legalized weed would actually be relatively small. Its estimated that it would generate about $2 billion from taxes, but the total revenue from taxes for the US is about $5.2 Trillion, so it would only be an increase of 0.038%. The taxes from pot would be nothing, $2billion is the cost of 2 stealth bombers that's it.

Bottom line, you want pot legal so you can get high. That's fine but don't try to hide that fact by saying marijuana is amazing for your health or that its taxes would fix things. You want to get high period.
User avatar #100 to #77 - crazyhindu (12/28/2011) [-]
allow me to explain this i know first hand that it helps control certain diseases i have tourettes syndrome alright you know what only when im high i feel like im normal and that i dont have to worry about trying to hold back a tick and get ridiculed also i never once claimed that its a miracle drug amazing for your health im and yes it would be great for it to be legalized so i can get high but do your ******* research it does have PROVEN health benefits these are not just made up facts by a bunch of stoners and i dont mean go do research on the internet i mean go look in books all that any non retarded stoner says about it is most likey true
User avatar #32 - auesis ONLINE (12/27/2011) [-]
I'm not going to bother debunking all of these arguments, but none of these suggest that it should be available legally as a recreational drug. This isn't helping the legalisation argument in the slightest. If anything, this is just reinforcing that it should remain as medical distribution and nothing more.

Don't bother with the "ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO ARE MORE HARMFUL" argument either, because that doesn't help. By that, you're not saying "make cannabis LEGAL", you're actually saying "make alcohol and tobacco ILLEGAL".
User avatar #19 - ReadTheTags (12/26/2011) [-]
I have a friend that does weed, and one thing i've noticed, as mellow and chilled out as it is, he's so ******* slow and stupid, it dumbs some people down a bit, but im neither here nor there on this matter.
User avatar #20 to #19 - rpursley (12/26/2011) [-]
not always ive been smoking for years now and i must say im an extremely smart person, but id say that it does that a lot, yes lol
#45 to #19 - fukluvmakesammichs (12/27/2011) [-]
... as sad as it is, i agree with rpursley's comment, not that hes smart, but that weed has little or no effect on someone intelligence. i know very smart stoners and i know stupid stoners. i also know very smart alcoholics, and all round drug users as well as sober people and i know thick people from each group. but the intelligence tends to be more based off of upbringing and intelligence of parents, although i dont suggest i dont know any anomalies.

I'm not going to list the counterpoint to every point, because I've done so before, and you can really google it and find out that pot hurts just as much as it helps.

But for #4: Alzheimer's is an inevitable disease. You don't "prevent" it, you only delay it.

marijuana is terrible for people with ADHD...
User avatar #37 to #27 - CreativeCoding (12/27/2011) [-]
ADHD is no longer considered a medical term. There's Active ADD and inactive ADD.

It can help some inactive ADD people who have high stress and stuff from their condition.

The statements used in the post are the results of preliminary studies with weak or moderate correlations. So far there have been very few studies exploring the full effects of weed but b/c there is such a push for its legalization any good information is used even if there is only one study will minimal evidence.

Plus we haven't fully studied the risks pot has, think of all the commercials on TV about drugs or pharmaceuticals that have caused in intended impacts. The same can be said about weed, we simply don't know if causes unknown damage. So in 5-10 years we might know that weed causes pancreas damage or something.
User avatar #94 to #93 - MegaAwesomeSauce (12/27/2011) [-]
Ok, thats you, but im sure everyone else that likes pot on this site doesn't have increased risk of alzheimers
#95 to #94 - coreyisabeastt (12/27/2011) [-]
but if they all smoked weed, theyd have a decreased risk of alzhiemers, and cancer..
