Public Service Announcement: Analog and Digital and Cable Quality

People, let me tell you a bit about cables and signals. I'd like to debunk some ******** for you.
First of all, Signals. An analog signal consists of varying frequencies and voltages. For all intents and purposes, it's that simple. A digital signal has two states: ON or OFF (1 or 0). Data is sent in packets, consisting of many of these bits.

Now, let's say you're sending an audio signal. You have an 80hz sine wave. That's bass right there, it'll rock the house. This pic I've got here shows a sine wave. It's essentially voltage over time, as you can see the voltage goes up and down over a period of time. Here, it's 1/80 of a second. That there is an analog signal. Now, if this was converted to a digital signal, it would be broken up into a series of points called samples. The more of these you have, the more accurate the wave is and the better your sound is.
Why am I saying all this? I'm getting to that. Hang in there.

Now, when you hook up your N64 to your TV with those red white and yellow plugs, that's an analog signal. Now, since you've got the voltages going on there, if you have ****** cables you have ****** sound/video. You lose voltage, you've got different frequencies going on, if you want good picture you need good cables.

Now, digital's a whole different shebang. You have bits. 1s and 0s. The data is sent as packets. Now, as long as all those packets get where they're supposed to go, you have theoretically perfect picture or sound. But it's all or nothing. If they don't get there, you have no picture or corrupted sound. $10 cable, $1000 cable, it makes no ******* difference.

When you're dealing with analog, good cables will make good results. You spend good money, you get good results. TO A POINT. There's no reason to spend four figures on cables.
So. If anyone tries to sell you "quality" digital cables, say no. That goes for HDMI, USB, all of it.
