I think I remember vaguely it was A Decade of Dangerous Ideas or something... It was 4 years since I've read it. I hope that helps you to find the book.

well to put it simply the north was forcing things against the south. trying to change their way of life. the amount of slave owners in the south was minimal when in comparison to all the people there. the south released their slaves before the north did. then the kkk was OMG slave Racist yay, and took the flag to have that meaning
