Yea.. I'm Canadian too but I still don't want this bill to pass, know why? because all of my favorite sites are based in america and while they might not be censored they do have the threat of being completely shut down for just one copyrighted link, It's bad no matter where you live.

I'm from Germany so there is no debate about censorship in my country- But when the USA takes this step every gouvernment in the world will think: "Oh?! Not such a bad idea, let's do this here too.". DON'T LET THEM CENSORE THE WORLD !!

censorship is not like you simply change your server location and have no problem. censorship is more like they block you connection to certain servers.. like in china

what i know is that there are a 2 ways to overcome this (losing most of the bandwidth though)
-using google translator to browse websites
-using proxys located in other countries

im not american either, but neither am i a naive little cunt. Do you really think other western governments arent getting a raging boner over the mere thought of being able to censor the internet?
the big companies are pushing such ******** everywhere. And as soon as America adopts the law you can be damn sure your prissy little country is going to seriously consider doing something similar.

So far all these freedom stealing and privacy invading laws that pass in the US end up finding their way everywhere else. Its just a matter of time.

im british, and over the years our government has slowly become americas bitch. if america adopt it it will only be a matter of time before we do, and the rest of the world.

This would still affect the rest of the world, about 27 ********* of websites that operate out of the US would be taken down. No, not being censored from people in the US, COMPLETELY TAKEN DOWN AND OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH.

Mostly no, probably only a few, major sites would be able to do that, like facebook and twitter

moving to Canada.... finding you.... sticking my PENIS in you until you die.
User avatar #105 - agx (11/24/2011) [-]
Two ways this can affect outsiders:
1- Other countries might get the same idea, and block sites too
2- The majority of sites you probably visit (not assuming) are in america, and the majority of traffic is from america, and so the site would get a lot less traffic, and they gain no money, so they can no longer afford to run the website.

I tend to thumb it back to 0 to try and give it a second chance at life....
User avatar #94 to #91 - moosepuncher (11/24/2011) [-]
I guess i didn't explain myself well enough.

A lot of websites are American based, if they get censored (from what i understand) it will be censored to all Americans and the rest of the world. Even if that is not the case. The website would lose most if not all traffic from America, which would most likely bankrupt them and force them to shut down.
#100 to #94 - anon (11/24/2011) [-]
what's this have to do with thumbing your comment up or down?
User avatar #104 to #100 - moosepuncher (11/24/2011) [-]
Nothing at all.

I just wanted to explain my reason for "insulting" OP. People can thumb it up or down if they want to. It's what it's there for.

fun fact, once the US passes a Bill like this they tend to expect other countries around the world to pass something similar. just remember the DMCA bill that makes sharing copyrighted material illegal almost everywhere on the planet.

Funny because websites like FJ and Facebook have the majority of it's user base in the US, without that user base FJ doesn't get any advertising money to keep the website up = no more FJ
about 70% of those who use social networking are situated in the US
the only thing that luckily won't be affected are MMO's
since they're mainly played by Asians
I'm English.
