Guys, Obama is actually against internet censorship. Here is a quote from his speech to the UN last Thursday: "We will promote new tools of communication so people are empowered to connect with one another and, in repressive societies, to do so with security. We will support a free and open Internet, so individuals have the information to make up their own minds. And it is time to embrace and effectively monitor norms that advance the rights of civil society and guarantee its expansion within and across borders"

The president has almost no power....stop blaming the wrong guy. its the congress. at least know how the government works. the president cant come up with laws. he can only veto them.
User avatar #192 - tawals (11/24/2011) [-]
And what did you expect hes a socialist, sooner or later they are all gonna tell you whats good or bad for you without leaving any choice in your own hands.

um.. guys it doesn't matter. ****** up bills are written everyday. This thing will never pass through both houses and the president. Chill the **** out.
#193 to #191 - Interesting (11/24/2011) [-]
Oh, and no, our president didn't write this. And there would have been change, except for a Republican majority in both houses of Congress.
User avatar #190 - koneella (11/24/2011) [-]

When are you Americans going to wise up and put Ron Paul in office?... he is what your country needs. **** i would gladly have that man running my country....
Btw he opposes SOPA.
#195 to #176 - lovelessk (11/24/2011) [-]
Paul is an isolationist.

That puts his defense and economic policies on par with Obama for most folks.

I'm not saying he doesn't have brilliant points and isn't right on many issues. Especially civil liberties (The Right and Left go out of their way to trod on liberties), but he is unelectable.

Period.

**obryan rolled a random image** Ron Paul: The one smart GOP candidate... which is exactly why he won't get the nomination :(
User avatar #166 - jjvoodoo (11/24/2011) [-]
its a texas senetor and a few others, not Obama, i think i remember him saying that he'd veto the bill
#171 to #166 - lovelessk (11/24/2011) [-]
Nothing about what you just said is true.

That's a bit pathetic.

Snowe (Maine RINO) and Rockefeller (West Virgina Dem)

They wrote the bill on behalf of Obama when he asked for a way to shut down the internet during a cyber attack.

Really? Blaming Texas because you are too lazy to read or do a google search?

**obryan rolled a random image** Also false good sir.
SOPA was introduced by Rep. Lamar Smith from Texas, Republican.
Protect IP however, WAS introduced by a democratic senator but from Vermont, and his name was Leahy.
Either way, both are part of legislative branch of government, not executive, i.e. Obama neither wrote nor requested this.
Don't be a hypocrite broseph. Take your google search off of Fox News mode

Lol, i never accused you of citing fox, I just said your argument was something I'd expect out of Fox News e.g. attacking someone for citing falsely and misinterpreting what they're really saying.

I'm not treating any of these bills as strawmen, I'm just saying THATS what the post was talking about. It's talking about the Internet censorship thats being discussed lately, which revolve around SOPA and Protect IP, no matter which way you look at it.

And woah, I'm just stating the simple fact that Leahy introduced the Protect IP Act, SOPA's Senatorial Counterpart. I'm not passing blame or trying to distract from anything here bro, I'm just saying that the current legislation at hand was introduced by neither Snowe nor Rockefeller. 2011, is the year we're living in and the issue we're tackling, not the Cyber Act of 2009. I'm not arguing that the '09 act is perfect or justified, **** , it's controversial as hell, but thats not what we're talking about.

I'm defending jjvoodoo when he said the bill, in the house, WAS introduced by a Texan, congressman. (Not a senator though)
#187 to #183 - lovelessk (11/24/2011) [-]
Yup. You are right.

100% my bad on that.

No excuses, outside the fact I've been arguing the the S/R bill in another thread.

You both have my apologies about SOPA (and for the record, I don't know any news agency from the Daily Koz to FOX news that supports SOPA).

My debate points were based off Snowe/R Bill. Again. My fault.
#188 to #187 - obryan (11/24/2011) [-]
**obryan rolled a random image** Haha, s'all good brodie, I agree though, the Snowe Bill is ridiculous =P
#173 to #172 - obryan (11/24/2011) [-]
The current issue is regarding SOPA and Protect IP not Snowe and Rockefeller's '09 proposed legislation

Stop being an idiotic Republican who does his research out of his ass and read a ************* newspaper or legislation report you moron. I'm a registered republican but its morons like you that make me embarrassed to be associated with the Republican party. I'll admit that Obama hasn't exactly been the perfect President but he's doing a **** load better than McCain would have and **** loads better than Bush did. The guy saved us from a second recession, if you're so smart and can run a country why dont you run for office and see how far you get.
#194 to #175 - lovelessk (11/24/2011) [-]
Your defense for Obama being a pathetic President is that he's not Bush or McCain...

Okie Dokey.

And please, don't lie about your political party. The Republicans and Conservative despise Obama because of his debt policies. He's not disliked because he's not McCain or Bush.

Logical fallacy.
User avatar #208 to #194 - ejdantes (11/25/2011) [-]
Do you want me to show you my papers sir, would that make you happy? Get off your high seat and grow the **** up, life isn't black and white. and for your information I am a Republican, I agree with them on certain terms as far as how society should work because even though i'm black and mexican i have to say that too many people cheat the welfare system and that it should be better monitored. People who dont have jobs shouldnt just be getting unemployment checks forever, they should all be put in a system that gives them 6 months to find a job or your out of luck, you could get a extension on the checks if there is proof that you have tried to get a job and that you are actually making an effort to sustain yourself
User avatar #205 to #194 - templer (11/24/2011) [-]
You know you are one minded retard who thinks that you know all that is politics and that your always right. Well that clearly wrong everyone of your posts here are thumbed down you are the 1% not the 99%. Everyone is entitled to be part of any party and have any view of things they like if democrats can not like Obama then tell me why a Republican can't be unhappy with bush. Don't try and force your **** on other people.

This post isn't even insulting. You should see the crap we put up with. Every day on this site it's "lol christians are dumb" or "all of your canidates are stupid because Jon Stewart said so". You don't see us blowing up the comments.

This is what is wrong with America

The dodgy American congress or whoever vote through a dodgy bill and the President is blamed and voted out while the same dodgy congress are free to make more dodgy bills.
