Hey, that's change.
Besides, blame Congress. I heard he plans to veto the bill, so if it does go through, roughly 2/3 of each Legislative house is to blame.
#3 - anon (11/23/2011) [-]
Barack Obama is actually against the bill, and said he would veto anything that hit's his deck.
User avatar #157 to #3 - dualshooter (11/24/2011) [-]
AFAIK he *DID* veto it, but now the rest of the government is trying to pass it anyway over his head. Srs America, Obama is the best president you guys have had in a long time, don't blow it because you followed faulty information..
#23 to #3 - anon (11/24/2011) [-]
wouldnt that make him like Good Guy Greg?

in this case, OP is not a Richard Simmonsgot. OP is retarded.

Obama opposed the bill. Congress wanted it passed.

Yup. Dont you just love people who dont know anything about politics?
#37 to #24 - anon (11/24/2011) [-]
And that's why the Tea party became popular, anyone with a hate of government and lack of actual knowledge can just jump on the bandwagon
#6 - Gewdaism (11/23/2011) [-]

wait, do americans know the difference between presidents and congresses?
User avatar #12 to #9 - srskate (11/23/2011) [-]
No, we don't
#11 to #9 - anon (11/23/2011) [-]
Yes, many Americans know that Congress makes up the Legislative branch of government and the president is part of the Executive branch of government. OP is just not one of these people that know because OP is an idiot.

That was congress. He stated that he would veto it. You're ******* retarded.
#70 - overnyanthousand (11/24/2011) [-]
It's funny, because it's false.
Obama stated he would veto the law.
*Congress* voted to pass it while ignoring the public's views on the matter.
If you're gonna hate, hate congress; or even better, hate yourself.
Afterall, who voted the mofo' into office?
**** logic.
User avatar #81 to #70 - thisjerk (11/24/2011) [-]
Obama hasn't been for or against the bill as of right now. He can veto it, but if he truly didn't want it to pass, he would be in congress right now making speeches against the bill. If you didn't no, the President can veto any bill, but the congress can override the veto if they get 67% of the votes or something. And if it's a bipartisan bill, meaning both the right and left agree on it, there's a very good chance they will have the power to overpower Obama, so why isn't he trying to stop them?

What? Him giving a speech to congress about why the bill is bad isn't proposing anything. When Obama tried to get the health care bill passed, for 8 months, his own party pretty much said he was ******* nuts. But one day, he 'called' every democrat in congress who disagreed with him, and the next day, they all magically loved the bill. If the SOPA bill is going to get passed, it will get passed, Obama doesn't give two ***** about Americans and their freedoms.

He flat out said "If congress passes this I will veto it" what else can he really do. He's already said he didn't agree with the bill

you know, Obama is actually against the bill.. learn your **** , OP.
#90 - TheInvader (11/24/2011) [-]
It's Congress's fault, not Obama...i hate it how people blame Obama but not Congress who actually tries to ruin everything

<---aimed at Congress
User avatar #83 - misterbonzo (11/24/2011) [-]
Yeah, except, no. It's people in congress who are trying to pass this bill. Not Obama.
User avatar #59 - fishtacos (11/24/2011) [-]
*prepares for massive down thumbs from Obama-haters* NO, he said that he would veto the law (see below comment by theyugokid) and to anyone that thinks Obama's a shtty president, it's because his staff, the house AND congress are making it a war for him to do anything. He's powerless in our government. He tried to do the things he said that he would, but he can't do **** without the consent of everyone else, which he isn't getting without a fight. It's called Balance of Power, the idea on which our whole government was built upon. Moral of the story: you can only do things as president with the rest of the government backing you up.

Nothing about what you just said is true.

That's a bit pathetic.

Snowe (Maine RINO) and Rockefeller (West Virgina Dem)

They wrote the bill on behalf of Obama when he asked for a way to shut down the internet during a cyber attack.

Really? Blaming Texas because you are too lazy to read or do a google search?
#172 to #171 - obryan (11/24/2011) [-]
**obryan rolled a random image** Also false good sir.
SOPA was introduced by Rep. Lamar Smith from Texas, Republican.
Protect IP however, WAS introduced by a democratic senator but from Vermont, and his name was Leahy.
Either way, both are part of legislative branch of government, not executive, i.e. Obama neither wrote nor requested this.
Don't be a hypocrite broseph. Take your google search off of Fox News mode

The current issue is regarding SOPA and Protect IP not Snowe and Rockefeller's '09 proposed legislation

Lol, i never accused you of citing fox, I just said your argument was something I'd expect out of Fox News e.g. attacking someone for citing falsely and misinterpreting what they're really saying.

I'm not treating any of these bills as strawmen, I'm just saying THATS what the post was talking about. It's talking about the Internet censorship thats being discussed lately, which revolve around SOPA and Protect IP, no matter which way you look at it.

And woah, I'm just stating the simple fact that Leahy introduced the Protect IP Act, SOPA's Senatorial Counterpart. I'm not passing blame or trying to distract from anything here bro, I'm just saying that the current legislation at hand was introduced by neither Snowe nor Rockefeller. 2011, is the year we're living in and the issue we're tackling, not the Cyber Act of 2009. I'm not arguing that the '09 act is perfect or justified, **** , it's controversial as hell, but thats not what we're talking about.

I'm defending jjvoodoo when he said the bill, in the house, WAS introduced by a Texan, congressman. (Not a senator though)
#187 to #183 - lovelessk (11/24/2011) [-]
Yup. You are right.

100% my bad on that.

No excuses, outside the fact I've been arguing the the S/R bill in another thread.

You both have my apologies about SOPA (and for the record, I don't know any news agency from the Daily Koz to FOX news that supports SOPA).

My debate points were based off Snowe/R Bill. Again. My fault.
