But Gyarados would kill it with one water based attack. It does twice the amount of damage due to weakness. That battle isn't epic at all...

It's because Gyrados was wimpy water type Pokemon back then, with low special attack, so Charaizard would win against Gyardos. But now there are physical water attacks that make Gyardos to a Pokemon you can acutally use

But let us look closer! First of, Charizard is ten levels higher. Considering the fact that Gyarados most likely is controlled by the game its intelligence is subpar and moveset not optimal. Charizard on the other hand may very well be in the hands of a devoted trainer that has spent hours on planning, levling, EV training, learning it the right moves and working out strategies. Gyarados is very powerful, yes. But so is Charizard. I'd say the odds are pretty even here.

ill tell u like i told moron down there this was. on fire red or leaf green. all water type moves were special, and gyarados aint got ANY special attack. i may be just a kid but even I know that charizard has the upper hand. hes even 10 levels higher then gyarados!!

Well you should specified that it was a computer opponent. I assumed it was PVP, but yeah.
I don't think 10 levels would make a massive difference.

thumbed anyway.

That gyarados knows hyperbeam, which was a physical attack back in those days. Even without STAB, that's going to **** charizard's day up.

touche but 10 levels higher? it would **** gyarados up worse, giving charizard an extra attack on it.

The only hope charizard has of doing any kind of respectable damage to the gyarados is if it had rock slide or ancient power. Looking at the levels, it's very possible that this charizard has rock slide, seeing as it was available in rock tunnel. So.... you know what? There's no way we can know what moves the charizard has and that's obviously Lance's gyarados. We also can't tell how much actual training went into the charizard. So, let's all just STFUAJPG.

its a special attack, and gyarados's base sp. attack is only 65.
