Explaining Gay Rights
To People who Make The Huge Leap That
If We Legalize Gay Marriage It Will Open
The Doors To All Sorts Of Ridiculous Things
Like Marrying Your Toaster, Children, The Dead Or Your Dog
This is Adam
He is a male adult capable of
making his own decisions. if you
met him on the street you would
assume he could get married,
This is Evelyn
She is a female adult capable of
making her own decisions. if you
met her on the street you would
assume she could get married.
Adam and Evelyn
met, fell in love, and eventually decided
they wanted to get married to each other.
I am and I am and
I give my consents I give my consents
gov' t recognizes them as a
married couple and gives them IE:
certain benefits. The church E t
has zero say in the matter. if you
doubt this fact then consider all the
Atheists, Pagans and other Religions people that
get legally married every day in the United states.
Now let' s move on...
This is Adam
He is a male adult capable of
making his own decisions. " you
met him on the street you would
assume he could get married,
This is Steve
He is a male adult capable of
making his own decisions. if you
met him on the street you would
assume he could get married.
Adam and Steve
met, fell in love, and eventually decided
they wanted to get married to each other.
I am GENE and I am capable and
I give my contente I give my consent!
The United States
gov' t deem‘: recognize them
as a married couple and denies avg;
them certain benefits. The church).
still has zero say in the matter.
The US gov' t is denying it' s citizens
the same rights that it grants to other citizens.
That is unconstitutional...
That is inequality, the following is not...
This is Adam
He is a male adult capable of
making his own decisions. If you
met him on the street you would
assume he could get married.
This is a toaster
It iest' t capable of making decisions
at all. it is unable to consent to
anything. [tie an inanimate object.
It isat' t a citizen of the us.
Adam and his toaster
can‘ t decide to marry each other since a toaster
can' t make decisions. Adam doesn' t get to
give consent twice just because he own it.
I am capable and
I give my consent! 'tolit)
dies;
I give my toaster ')',
consent tool I i,
The United States
gov' t doign' t need to recognize Adam and his
toaster in order to recognize Adam and Steve,
Denying rights and benefits to some citizens that
you grant to others is unequal, unconstitutional,
and wrong. Marriage between two people who love
each other and are consenting adults should not
be denied in the eyes of the gov' t,
Additional not like gay rights examples...
This is Billy
He is ten years old and legally
cart make or comprhend life
changing decisions. He might feel
love. but he isn' t an adult yet.,
This is a corpse
It much like the toaster can' t make
decisions. it has become inanimate.,
It may have once been a citizen of
the Us but it isn' t any longer.
This is a dog
It could possibly feel love the way
we do. However it isn' t aware of
it' s decisions. it cart consent and
isn' t a citizen.
Hopefully gay rights makes more sense.

So True.

As long as it's between consenting adults, and the people involved aren't surrendering their rights (eg. right to life), then it should be up to the people involved to decide.

I am living in Scotland and the government are seriously considering legalising gay marriage, although churches will only have to participate in the ceremony's if they so wish. The catholic church says that it will 'make Scotland a joke in the the eyes of the world' and have started a petition to stop the gay marriage movement. My only problem with this is that they are not forced to marry gay couples, the catholic church could simply opt out. but instead they wish to prevent all gay marriage in Scotland. Here 60% are for gay marriage and 17% against. the rest are undecided. I don't understand why one church believes its will should come before everyone else's. Why can't some people accept love is love?

With what i say i do not mean the whole of christianity. I have nothing against organized religion. I do however, have a bone to pick with Radical religion.

Simply put, the United States is a secular nation, religion should have no say in the way people in a country live, mostly because not everyone follows the said religion, Its everyone's right to a pursuit of happiness, is it not?

A Democracy is not similar to a Theocracy, thats mostly what i'm trying to say. i'm not labeling the whole of christianity as Small minded and bigoted.

yeah it's weird because I know three black women who have white boyfriends, but only one couple that's the other way around... I don't mean that that is how it is in most cases (I don't know those statistics) I'm just saying, it should be more 50/50 on this...

Ever consider there are arguments other than that of religion? I am by no means opposed to gay marriage, but people have other reservations against it than it just being "a sin".

Foremost of them being that marriage is the bond in a nuclear family- to further the development of society via children. Not saying gays can't adopt, but adopting gays are in the minority. A marriage has been throughout history a way to protect the children produced in said marriage. While this may be in some peoples eyes an archaic definition, its still a definition, and a lot of people forget that many who are opposed to gay marriage aren't raging Fundamentalist Christians.

And again, I don't have any issue with gay marriage, its just you people dont seem to like seeing the other side of the fence.
User avatar #65 to #58 - puggles (11/12/2011) [-]
but then you have couples like my wife and I. i have a daughter from a previous relationship, but i had a vasectomy years before we were married and have no desire to adopt, so that now we're married without children or any potential of having them. the whole nuclear family thing doesn't apply to us, but society recognizes our marriage as valid.

also, not arguing for or against, just pointing out a different view.
User avatar #126 - iceheart (11/12/2011) [-]
Well it isn't the US government that is denying it's citizens. The government really couldn't care less. For the government the idea of marriage is simply legally merging two incomes together to create a whole. This adds more stability to both individual incomes that make the whole, and is good all around.

You are not fighting the government in this debate, and I'm sick of people saying that. You're fighting each other. This is a democracy, the basis of decisions is based on public opinion, not the government. Although you do not vote individually on laws, you vote on the politicians that make the laws. They are going to go with the choice that is most likely to give them more voters in the next election. Although stated as their opinion it likely is not. Don't blame the government for things like this.

I Honestly don't care if someones gay. Hell, my uncle's gay, and he's the nicest, funniest man I've ever met. Nevertheless, shaking your fist and screaming and categorizing all christians into one group is just as bad as everyone categorizing all gays.

If you want gay marriage to be legal, you first have to overcome the overwhelming number of christians who still believe that marriage is between a Man and a Woman. Which, will, never, in 100 years time, happen.
User avatar #57 to #48 - akoya (11/12/2011) [-]
Not all church groups are against gay marriage. I'm not categorizing all religious people. I'm categorizing idiots that don't understand why it is wrong to deny homosexual people the ability to marry. The amount of christian groups that support gay marriage are growing. It is legal in some states already so that once in a 100 years thing you are talking about already happened there. Other countries already have legal marriage between homosexual people. If you are able to give consent it shouldn't matter what gender you are, you should be able to marry who you love.

How come it says by NevermoreFTW at the top but is was posted by akova?
#146 - sammen (11/12/2011) [-]
Okay guise so...Let me get this straight..

We're fighting... about whether or not gays/women are like toasters and whether toasters have the right to consent to marriage?

1) Gays/Women are not inanimate objects. Women make your sammiches, Gays make most guys look like douches. Toasters warm bread that is it.
2)-Everyone- should have the right to marry. If two gay guys are christian and wish to marry. Let 'em ****** do it. There are christian pastors who would be willing to marry them. It's like being pagan and getting married. You need to have a slightly different ceremony but it isn't impossible. It should still be recognized by the state. The church has no say whatsoever in who can marry who, only who can get married in front of the pews of their building.
