You DISLOCATED your wrist? Please. Point at the joint in your hand.
A dislocated wrist requires surgery seeing how your hand is connected with tendons not a joint. Yours truly; Second year med-student.

Equal rights... if she starts the altercation, it should be treated equally. But in the same instance if I can hold her back I'd hold her back first... hurting isn't fun.
User avatar #30 to #28 - manofparody (11/08/2011) [-]
Imo, if you have to hold her back, she's meaning to do the same harm as everyone else, just is too weak to do it. You holding her back is basically taking pity. Would I still hurt her? No, but you can damn sure bet that I will subdue her if she gets out of control.

User avatar #69 to #34 - banjofrank (11/08/2011) [-]
Before I start this, this is completely hypothetical. I've never hit a woman, nor do I plan to, but I do believe that if a woman acts violently towards a man, then she cannot be guilt free for a violent retaliation. Let me put it like this... I'm 6 foot 2 and although I'm not a fitness fanatic or anything, I am strong. I share a house with 3 friends, all male. 1 guy is around my size and the other 2 are smaller. 1 housemate is particularly small, he's about 5 foot 6 and doesn't have much bulk. Now if he punched me, I wouldn't think twice in putting him on his arse, because he provoked a violent exchange from me. I don't think I'd do the same if it was a woman, but if this is a society of gender equality, why shouldn't I? Again, this is a hypothetical scenario so all responses welcome. Let's get a good intellectual debate going.
User avatar #97 to #69 - Blazikengirl (11/08/2011) [-]
Well tbh, (even though I am female) I've had some brawling, but I don't believe in hitting someone who is smaller/weaker than you if you can restrain them.

This is the difference IMO. Women generally (as you've probably noticed) get into much less physical fights than men. By nature we communicate more through verbal comunication, whereas men are very physical beings (i.e, hard slaps on the back, playful rough shoving etc - rarely seen in female-female relationships) and are typically stronger, even if the same size/weight.

While your typical reaction may be to punch someone if they've punched you first, that will probably not be the way a Woman's mind works, bar the occasional cat fight. For example, if someone of your height were to hit a woman, unless she was particularly ballsy, chances are she wouldn't retaliate, whereas a man probably would. It is also likely (if she hit first) that the force she hit the man with, would not be nearly as strong as his retaliation. If you think of it this way, skills in basic combat is almost seen as a right of passage in men, and not as much so in women.

However, that certainly does not give her the right to hit him in the first place. I really don't believe hitting anyone unless its for some rule based fight, or out of self protection, but there is a difference between self defence and tit for tat. Society wouldn't be equal if men hit women from a violent exchange, because on avergae men are stronger, bigger and have more experience. It's like saying that all nerds and jocks are equal, therefore a Jock would beat up a nerd the same way he'd beat up his pal twice the size. ****** analogy, but you get my point.

TL;DR- That wouldn't make it equal unless women were always typically as strong as men.
User avatar #98 to #97 - banjofrank (11/08/2011) [-]
A good point well made. As I've said, I'd never hit a woman, but I have limited sympathy for anyone who throws a punch and then gets one in return.
User avatar #304 to #98 - fignewtonz (11/08/2011) [-]
It all depends on the situation. In my opinion, if any guy without some kind of handicap comes at me, regardless of his size, I hit him. If it is a girl, the only way I hit her is if she is going to actually harm me and the only way I can prevent it is by hitting her. i would say that with 99% of girls i can just grab their arm, or at the very least tackle them. Outright punching a woman is not going to be necessary in almost any circumstance, with the rare exception of a woman with some kind of weapon or if she is some kind of beast or karate chick or something.
User avatar #336 to #97 - manofparody (11/08/2011) [-]
So what you're saying is that they're inferior. You just angered a group of feminists somewhere in this world.
User avatar #339 to #336 - Blazikengirl (11/08/2011) [-]
Uh no, did I ever say that? Like the analogy I used, that's just like saying Nerds are inferior to jocks. Just because women are generally physically weaker than men (fact) does not make them inferior.

Women are a lot more skilled verbally than men typically, does that make men inferior? No, it just makes them different. You have a lot to learn about gender studies.
User avatar #347 to #339 - banjofrank (11/09/2011) [-]
"Women are a lot more skilled verbally than men typically" not to poke holes in your argument but I think this is a pretty unfounded claim. Can you show me some research for it?
User avatar #348 to #347 - Blazikengirl (11/09/2011) [-]
You need to login to view this link

Not a claim, fact. I've done psychology as an AS in my school, and we learned about lateralization a lot during this time. Think about it simply, which gender do you think talks more?

The left side of the brain (language, vocabulary, arts etc) is typically more developed in women. Look up any valid neurology study about genders, they will all say the same.
User avatar #349 to #348 - banjofrank (11/09/2011) [-]
That article at no point implies that women are more skilled verbally. It asserts that women talk more(which believe me I know), but that has no connotations relating to the level of intelligence that is revealed through the verbal interaction. Furthermore, the article paints a caricature of males (beer guzzling/hockey rerun watching). I studied psychology for 2 years as part of my degree and if I sourced that book I'd have received a well deserved fail from my professor.
User avatar #350 to #349 - Blazikengirl (11/09/2011) [-]
So you're saying that just because someone practises something, doesn't mean that they will be good at it? I'm not even citing a source right now, but using common sense. If women (on average) talk more so than men, then they are going to be more skilled at talking than men.

Yes I can see why you were offended by that article, but I didn't intend it as such and I was simply using it as a basic example. That doesn't lessen the fact that women typically dominate more in the left side of the brain, responsible for verbal skills. However you can get Men who are more typically 'left brained' and Women who are right, I'm making a generalisation here, but yes I see your trepidation.
User avatar #351 to #350 - banjofrank (11/09/2011) [-]
No, I'm not offended at all (It's actually pretty nice having an good conversation on here), but I'm just saying that doing something alot doesn't automatically make you good at it. I'll give you an example straight out of my life. I've been playing guitar for around 14 years, and I'm good but I'm not great. I play every day, I play in a band and we get booked for regular gigs and I also play in a traditional Irish Session every Sunday in a pub. Like I've said, I'm good at guitar, but I'm not great, but I have a friend who's been playing for around 3 years who can play circles around me in spite of the fact that I play more than him is not going to make me a better guitarist, much in the same way that women talking more doesn't meant they're more articulate or skilled at speaking.
User avatar #352 to #351 - Blazikengirl (11/09/2011) [-]
Yeah exactly I can never have one without someone making kitchen jokes lol...

Hmm, that is a good point. I agree with you in that I think in order to be good at something it takes both practise and natural ability, but I'm speculating that because Women generally use the area of their brain that controls verbal communication more, and that part is shown to typically be more developed in Women, then they would be more apt in verbal communication. It obviously doesn't make women smarter, but on average would make them better at articulation.

E.g, if you look at a research project by Van Goozen (1995) She experimented on transsexuals who were going through hormone treatment, who were given hormones of the opposite sex. Male-female transsexuals showed a decrease in aggression and visual-spacial skills and an increase in verbal fluency, the female-male showed the opposite.

Hampson and Mask (1996), another research study showed that when oestrogen and progesterone ('female' hormones) where high during women's menstruation, they were better in fine motor skills tasks and verbal communication, and their skills in visual-spacial tasks decreased.

Through brain scanning and tests, show the main difference of the cerebral hemispheres showing >Women have superiority in language, emotional and fine motor skills, Men have superiority in visual-spacial and mathematical skills.
