The original authors of today's bible were a group of old rich white men. People say God wrote the bible. No, men wrote the bible. The old testament was in Hebrew originally, so there was loss in translation there. The new testament was either written in Latin, the language of the Romans who controlled Jerusalem at the time, or Hebrew, keeping with the religion of the Jews. More loss of translation. I'm not bashing religion here, but seriously? If God could write, what makes anyone think he would want to write in English anyway? Jesus wasn't white, Osama Bin Laden probably has a closer resemblance to Him than the Pope. Ignorant people believe in Christianity because the Bible is the word of God and the Bible says God is real. You can't bring logic or reason into an argument of Religion, because logic will win every time. That's why it's called FAITH. But there are many religious laws that Christians are supposed to follow that they don't. The new testament says not to forget the teachings of the old testament, so really, Christians should just be Jews with more rules. If you're going to pull the bible card at all, you can't pick and choose what biblical laws to follow.

tl;dr
There are a lot of Christians that don't think for themselves when it comes to religion.
Sorry for the essay.

If you notice, people are thumbing us down. I suspect because we don't agree with them.
User avatar #226 to #224 - ubersammich (10/15/2011) [-]
thumbs are generally irrelevant.
I've spoken my mind and did not have intentions to hurt anyone's feelings.
If I get thumbed down for that, then so be it.

What I mean is, I find it rather funny.
I agree I shall keep the comments up.

Do you by any chance support OWS?
User avatar #243 to #239 - ubersammich (10/15/2011) [-]
Occupy Wall Street?
I'd say so.

Someone once asked me which I fear more, Big Business or Big Government.
I thought about this long and hard and decided on the answer....
They're the same thing.
It's the golden rule: Whoever has the gold makes the rules.
#247 to #243 - toxicgambit (10/15/2011) [-]
Well I can argue both sides of the cause for a long time.

A big business can have good morals and support the people. And the same works for a big government. I can see your point in being the same.

At the same time they can have bad morals.

It all depends I suppose.

But in the U.S the latter is usually dominant. At least that is what I have seen.

User avatar #251 to #247 - ubersammich (10/15/2011) [-]
Quite. And the reason why many people see big business as a threat is that the corporation will do what is best for itself, taking away money, benefits, and safety from the workers.

People are afraid of big government because they are afraid of the government limiting rights, especially those outlined in the Bill of Rights.
However, if the entire government were on a strict constructionist basis, we would have to forfeit all lands acquired by the Union including all lands west of the Mississippi River along with Florida and Puerto Rico.
#269 to #251 - toxicgambit (10/15/2011) [-]
Look at some European countries. They are big government but I see them doing well.
User avatar #272 to #269 - ubersammich (10/15/2011) [-]
True, but they have found what works for them. Having big government run the show in America might make some people happy, but in the long run wouldn't work and it would tear the nation apart.

America needs to find out what is right for America, and right now, we're trying to figure out what can get us out of the financial pit we've dug ourselves into, or rather, our big business/government has dug us into.
#308 to #272 - toxicgambit (10/15/2011) [-]
Basically, I just wanted to point out that some countries do it well with a big government.
User avatar #315 to #308 - ubersammich (10/15/2011) [-]
And some don't. China is the world's wealthiest nation (they own us on paper), but the per capita income is only about 4,400. The country does well but the people suffer.
#320 to #315 - toxicgambit (10/15/2011) [-]
Well I notice small countries work well with it.
User avatar #323 to #320 - ubersammich (10/15/2011) [-]
This is very true, because there is a definite limit to the amount of power the country can have. It's a much more constant society than in America or even the UK, which is relatively small.
#331 to #323 - toxicgambit (10/15/2011) [-]
Well than do you think there is a definite power a company can have?
User avatar #338 to #331 - ubersammich (10/15/2011) [-]
The company has control over its own assets and liabilities.

When a company takes attempts to control diplomatic and political venues to further its marketing capabilities and build a higher profit margin, they overstep their bounds, but it is legal in most cases.

This makes government an asset to the company.

Because diplomatic power is theoretically infinite, if a company gained control of a strong enough political machine, such as the United States Government, they could do whatever they wanted provided they have the funds necessary to pay off the right people.

And when they don't have the necessary funds, they just borrow it, creating more debt, making them lose power. So really, their power is limited to how much they want versus how much they can afford.

Does that make sense? I'm super tired so it might just be gibberish.

We can continue the conversation at a later time then.

Alright. I friended you so that the conversation may continue. I'm E.S.T. so it's 2:18 right now. Night.

Indeed.

^This.

I really don't care when it comes to religion, more power to you. Everyone to his/her self.

But what does piss me off is when people pick and choose what faiths to follow.
"Yes I like that so I'll live by that"
"No I don't like this so it's more of a guideline."

But again, everyone to his/her self I suppose.
User avatar #156 to #153 - ubersammich (10/15/2011) [-]
I'm sort of a combination of Pagan/Unitarian/Christian/Agnostic so I'm down with everyone's deciding for themselves. I just don't think it's right to push your religion on someone else when you're not following the rules. I honestly believe that God everywhere and people should be able to decide for themselves how they want to worship Him or not. But if you're going to judge people (and in the Christian faith that's God's job, not yours) you can go ahead and leave. I think everyone is doing the right thing for themselves, and if not, they will change their ways.

I type too much....

Ah well, thank you for clearing it up. The I got mixed up with all the yous.

Personally, I am a Deist and I don't care what you believe. As long as we can get along and be friends you're alright in my book. I don't care about your race, disabilities, gender, sexuality, political persona, age, etc.

Anyways back on topic. I do really get pissed off when people try to shove their views down my throat.

Ah, a man (or woman?) after my own heart.

Then you'd be good to expand your horizons. You're off to a good start. Just remember, even if you don't agree with someone, don't discount their opinions. Just sayin'.
