I told my like REALLY CHRISTIAN cousin I was Agnostic, and she told me I would burn in eternal hell. I spent a week at bible camp and they seriously tried forcing Christianity down my throat. Like they asked all who didn't accept god as their savior, and then they took all the people who raised their hands to the sides and had them all pray, and had counclers "save" them. I am never walking into another church again.
I used to be one of those dumbass Christians. I'm still a Christian today, but I've learned not to be so judgmental and respect others' opinions, but looking back... Holy shit I was fucking retarded.
I'm an Athiest and I don't say a damn thing about anything religous. I've been dating this girl 2 years and she just figured it out.

Is it sad to say that, when I went to a Catholic school for two years
(it wasn't a Catholic-only school; I'm Buddhist and there were other people with different religions too)
and my Ethics teacher flat-out said that any other religion besides Catholicism is unanimously wrong?
Because that's what he said in the middle of a lesson.
It might just be me, but I felt incredibly offended and felt like it was incredibly wrong for him to say that so bluntly in the middle of class
when there are people of other religions in the school.
I know he's an Ethics teacher in a Catholic-dominant school, but isn't it wrong to be so blunt about that?

No, it's not wrong.
That's the exact teaching of the Catholic church.
Everyone non-Catholic is going straight to hell.
He'd be a lying faggot if he said anything else.
Also, don't be butthurt because some catholic idiot whips his dick (read: religion) out. Laugh at him. He's catholic, what does he know at all?

Do you know anything about Catholicism? Yes it's a strict religion and is offensive in truest form. But the reason it is that way is because the hierarchy is so slow to react to a changing world, in this case changing to be tolerant. Most Catholics don't believe in the extremes. Don't classify an entire religion when you know nothing about it, please.
I have been a practising Catholic in a >90% catholic nation for 14 fucking years. I have talked with my local priest for endless hours about the religion.
I know Catholicism damned well, my friend.
And what I said is true. It is absolutely true, down to the last little detail.
What most Catholics believe is totally irrelevant if the Vatican does stick to the old dogmata and rules, that's another thing I know about Catholicism.
"Roma locuta, causa finita" - "Rome has spoken, the cause is finished" refers to the supposed inerrableness of the Pope himself.
The hierachy cannot do anything about that specific matter, because this is actually one of the most basic dogmata. The can't change it any more than they can change the dogma that Jesus is supposedly Gods son.
In the future, you better watch who you call ignorant, buddy, because it seems I know FUCKLOADS more about Catholicism than you do.

Maybe you know more about Catholicism literally. But Catholics in general don't believe what your priest said and that's a fact. Most people realize that the Vatican isn't always right. Of course your priest is going to tell you the bullshit traditionalism; it's his job.
Maybe you are more intelligent in that regard because I've never talked religion over with a priest. Hell I'm not even Christian anymore. My family however is very tied to religion, specifically my grandmother with the Catholic Church. She's not intolerant nor does she think every word the Pope says is completely true or right. Sometimes yes, Catholics are ignorant, but you just classed everyone in the religion as intolerant assholes. It's like saying all Muslims are intolerant of any other religions when the sensible know that this isn't the case.

I classified the religion, not the religious people.
Get the difference? You can perfectly say Catholicism is intolerant and Islam is a bloody deathcult, because you can prove it with their own "holy" books.
You can't say that about the religions followers, because people are all different.
Understand what I mean?

I laughed about it afterwords, but, coming from a public school,
I was pretty shocked that he said it so bluntly; I hadn't expected that.
I just didn't know if he had the right to do that if he was knowingly teaching students of different beliefs.

I'd say that there's a lot of "moderate" christians that have all the good pro christian parts but all the bad anti atheist parts...

I don't openly badmouth religions in public or anything, but i think anyone who puts their faith in some all powerful being is a bit of a dumbass. But I'm not gonna be a douche about it, if you're a cool person you're still a cool person regardless of religion, just dont bring that shit up all the time.
Thank you for posting this. It warms my heart to see how far it made it up. I am a Christian on FJ and I love my atheist friends. I think their witty and unobstructed view of the universe is a beautiful perspective and there's a lot to learn from their school of thought. You're right, why can't we all get along?

I can feel your pain, i was born and raised in Georgia, was forced to go to church, when I realized I had a choice I became Wiccan (that went over real well with my family). Now I'm more of an agnostic. I believe there is something out there, just not sure what. Untill I figure it out I just try to live my life as a good person and not hurt others.
Oh, I'm from west of ATL, how about you?
