Get smacked down, WITH KNOWLEDGE!

Don' t buy the new Pepsi can coming out with pics of the Empire State building and The Pledge of Allegiance
on them. Pepsi left out two little words on the pledge "Under God". Pepsi said they didn' t want to offend
anyone. So f we don' t buy them they won' t be offended when they don' t receive our money that has the
words "In God We Trust" on it. How Fast can you repost this

The pledge of allegiance was created by Francis
Bellamy in 1992 as a ploy to sell (aags to schools across the nation.
Under god" wasn' t added to the pledge until 19 54 because
Eisenhower had a Fear of secular Communism. The original salute to
the (iag was known as the 'Bellamy Salute', and was nearly identical
to what most of you would recognize as the Nazi Salute. It would
remain that way until December 22, 194. 1 when Roosevelt instituted
the salute.
In God We Trust wasn' t added to our currency until July 30, 1956,
Again, by Eisenhower, And even then it wasn' t adopted on all paper
currency until 1966,
The original Fade motto of the US is much more poignant and in
line wih the spirit in which this country was Founded. ‘E pluribus
unum'. But of many, one. This is what was printed on currency From
1795 until the adoption of the current US motto.
In any (ESE, protesting and bohr: ratting a product or company
because they recognize that not all Americans subscribe to one
particular huh, and instead use a previous rendition that had not yet
been tarnished by religious zealots and cowards is both ridiculous and
ignorant.
One of the primary reasons this country was Founded and populated
in the first place was For the freedom of religious persecution. I am
saddened to see this making a comeback. 250 years later.
But people who don' t believe in your Jesus should just go back home,
right?

I'm a Christian, but I agree. I have nothing but respect for people of all faiths, or lack of, as long as you respect mine in return. A person could worship dirt for all I care, as long as he doesn't try to force it onto me.

It's a shame that people take things like this to varying extremes, be it the WBC and Al-Qaeda or Nazi Germany and Cold War Eastern Europe.

I am atheist and I hate it when I see debates that just urn into fighting. People should just keep their opinions to themselves and only defend their ideas if needed. No one should push their ideas down others throats.

well im an atheist and i dont see the big deal. live and let live is what i say. they want to believe in god, more power to them. im not gonna be some asshole who tells them they are wrong cuz i am insecure in my own beliefs. same goes for every religion as long as it doesn't hurt people. i hate those douche bags that go around harassing others for their beliefs. what do you gain?

I've always thought of it that Muslims and Jews and Christians all believe in God, but the ways they all choose to worship are different. Chrisitians might think their ways of worshiping are more correct, but I don't think that means that other religions will go to hell or whatnot.
#120 to #106 - HarbingerGunner (06/15/2011) [-]
technically that is every religion. Everyone believes that their religion is the only RIGHT one. Even atheists.

But let's go deeper.

Anyone who has a strong opinion will believe their's is the only RIGHT one. just what humanity is.

Yes, but so do most other religions. I won't think you're right, but I won't care if you think you're right. And who knows? Maybe you are.

User avatar #130 to #104 - mtndewguy (06/15/2011) [-]
I am anti-theist and that guy was a troll. I am anti-theist not because I think you're stupid, but because I think you're wrong, as well as every other religion that worships a personified god, or idolizes one as the Buddhists do.
User avatar #414 to #130 - kamakazekiwi (06/15/2011) [-]
See, when I say anti-theist, I mean ANTI-theists, I mean those out to get rid of religion. Not those who are atheist.
User avatar #415 to #414 - mtndewguy (06/15/2011) [-]
I am both, I think religion is holding humanity back and should be abolished.
User avatar #417 to #415 - kamakazekiwi (06/15/2011) [-]
Hmm, ok. That works for me too.
#148 to #130 - John Cena (06/15/2011) [-]
Yes, we're right and they're wrong. But why do they persist in being wrong? Because their either stupid or delusional. Neither of those is flattering, but they're the ones who have to choose one or the other.
User avatar #149 to #148 - mtndewguy (06/15/2011) [-]
Well, no one can be 100% absolutely sure about either position.
They cling to their beliefs because that is what they were taught to do when their beliefs were challenged, or they were confused. Might call that delusional, but I would call it un-willful ignorance. Whether the title you give it is flattering or not is redundant, I'm sure some of the things we "know" at this point will seem delusional or stupid in another 50 or so years. And they didn't choose to become theistic, for the most part, they were forced into it by parents/guardians.
User avatar #416 to #149 - kamakazekiwi (06/15/2011) [-]
But see this is where atheists lack in their debates. Respect. Even when trying to be respectful, you call us ignorant and forced upon our beliefs, which is not respectful at all. I haven't insulted your views even once. I can see why you believe them and have nothing against that. But you don't know my reasoning for my beliefs, and shouldn't be so quick to judge someone and call them ignorant.
User avatar #418 to #416 - mtndewguy (06/15/2011) [-]
Why should I respect something that has so obviously been defeated so many times, but is still clinging to the fears of people to stay alive. Don't respect my beliefs if you think they are wrong, tell me I'm a ******* moron for thinking something that is wrong, because if you don't I'll still be wrong tomorrow. I never called you ignorant in any way either, I was calling the belief ignorant. I also never said I knew anything about your reasons for being theistic, I was making a broad statement to include the majority of cases I have encountered. Most people I know who are theistic, didn't choose this for themselves, their parents forced them into it, while others, like my mom, chose it because they needed an escape from things going on in their life.
User avatar #420 to #418 - kamakazekiwi (06/15/2011) [-]
Well, see that's the thing about religion (and why I am borderline agnostic). It's completely faith based. It cannot be proven, and it cannot be disproved. And respect for someones beliefs even if you think they're wrong is what this country was founded upon, which is kinda the topic of what we're posting on.
User avatar #421 to #420 - mtndewguy (06/15/2011) [-]
Contradictions can disprove a point, and god is contradictory with things we can observe. Respect has nothing to do with freedom. You can believe what you want, and no one can FORCE you to change your views, but I damn sure have the right to tell you you're wrong and tell you why I think so. You can't have the right to have a religion and tell others they are wrong if others can't have no religion and tell you your wrong.
User avatar #413 to #148 - kamakazekiwi (06/15/2011) [-]
See this is the mentality of someone who doesn't know what they're talking about. Someone who won't even recognize the opposition. I think you're wrong, but I don't think most atheists are stupid and delusional. You're just one of those types of people. Assholes.
User avatar #121 to #83 - durkadurka (06/15/2011) [-]
As another fellow Christian, I could careless what pepsi prints on their cans about God or Religion.

My only issue with this is that the pledge as it is today contains the words "under God" and the pussies and pepsi won't print it because they've bought into all of the political correctness ******** .

It's not like I care much at all, but I don't think the reasons to print the pledge as it is aren't religious but are instead political.
#124 to #121 - slapyousillyfoo (06/15/2011) [-]
politically, "under god" wasn't supposed to be there anyway. the population was just so dominantly christian that they kind of broke the rules to put that phrase there.
User avatar #135 to #124 - durkadurka (06/15/2011) [-]
It's not like I would change what pepsi is doing (if that000000000

It's not like I would change Pepsi's decision even if this is a real thing they are doing, I just think that the decision is for the wrong reasons. If they seriously were ommitting the phrase to be historically accurate, then I wouldn't really give it second thought. However, it seems that they are simply bowing to political correctness because they want to make as much money as possible.

The First Ammendment prohibits the establishment of a State religion as well as the impedement of the worhship of any religion. Adding words to the pledge from religion isn't necessarily breaking the rules especially in the contexted of the 1950's

hm.. i never thought of it that way. the 50's WERE a very different time. one of the largest problems at that time was prayer in schools, but these days that wouldn't even be considered, which is kind of what i'm trying to say.
