You could buy an airport and a few stealth bombers... That would go through $1 trillion pretty fast...
User avatar #6 to #3 - DevilsCalling (03/03/2011) [-]
no even. your only in the billions a stealth bomber is what 10...30 billion TOPS
User avatar #7 to #6 - satanisthesavior (03/03/2011) [-]
Plus the airport plus the costs to fuel all those bombers would get you pretty close to going through $1 trillion... Besides, you gotta have some left over for classes to fly that **** (or to hire someone else to fly that **** )...
User avatar #8 to #7 - DevilsCalling (03/03/2011) [-]
still even at that an airport would make u money. even buying all that stuff you would have to buy a retarded amount of stealthbombers and aiports...
User avatar #9 to #8 - satanisthesavior (03/03/2011) [-]
Well, assuming you are building your own airport (cause I don't think anyone who already owns one would sell theirs), the costs for land, labor and materials would probably run you close to $1 billion... Then you need to get some airport companies to agree to fly to your destination (cause if you can't fly anywhere nobody will show up) or try to get other airports to allow you to land there and fly people yourself. In either case, you are probably looking at another $5-$10 billion to either start your own small airline or convince other airlines to fly to your airport...

I think the population of the US is about 350 million people... I'm going to round that up to 500 million just to be pessimistic (and to make the math easier).

If the government planned to give everyone in the US an equal share of $1 trillion, that would be... umm... $2,000 dollars each.

User avatar #31 to #2 - SteyrAUG (03/04/2011) [-]
The debt per citizen is more than $45,000. The debt per TAXPAYER is $128,000. This money is going to help those who are needy. Better to have everyone be poor than just a few.

User avatar #48 to #31 - satanisthesavior (03/04/2011) [-]
Is that personal debt?
User avatar #49 to #48 - SteyrAUG (03/04/2011) [-]
no that's the amount of national debt if it was divided up among the population
User avatar #53 to #49 - satanisthesavior (03/04/2011) [-]
That isn't reflected on the citizens directly though... The government should get everyone back on their feet and stabilize the economy, then hike taxes up a little (and cut back on the pay to US representatives cause they get paid WAY too much) and THEN start worrying about trimming down the debt.

The only reason we are in debt is cause of the stupid "Iraq war" (which is less of a war and more of an invasion anyways)...
User avatar #89 to #53 - SteyrAUG (03/04/2011) [-]
The government has done enough to cause the problem without making it worse.

For example:
The government puts massive taxes on oil companies because they "make too much money" well, they aren't going to pay their own taxes, they will just pass it down the line to the refineries, who pass it to the gas stations, who pass it to us. The problem with the government programs that keep being put into place is that no one will pay a tax that they can legally get out of paying. Cut government programs, cut government spending, cut back on government, and the economy fixes itself in 5 or 6 years. Have the government running the economy, the same thing happens that happened in the great depression.

Then only world war III will save us.
User avatar #93 to #89 - satanisthesavior (03/04/2011) [-]
We need the government running the economy though because otherwise **** collapses...

Also, pretty sure america has some of the lowest taxes of any country worldwide, so we really can't complain about having to pay too many taxes...
User avatar #94 to #93 - SteyrAUG (03/04/2011) [-]
What we have is a progressive tax. People who make very little money only get taxes maybe 2-5% total, but when you make upwards of $1,000,000 a year, the federal government alone takes 39% right off the top. They punish you for success.

What ended up happening in the great depression after FDR got into office is he put into place all sorts of government programs that were supposed to kickstart the economy and make it run on its own again. After 6 years when all the programs were cut, the economy crashed harder than it did in 1929. What we are seeing now is history repeating itself. Things may seem to be getting better now, but when obama's programs are cut, the economy will spiral downwards again, and whoever is in office will be blamed.
User avatar #95 to #94 - satanisthesavior (03/04/2011) [-]
I think progressive taxes are a great idea. The more money you earn the bigger your share of the debt. It doesn't make any sense for someone who makes 10k a year to pay the same amount in taxes as someone who makes 100k a year...
User avatar #96 to #95 - SteyrAUG (03/04/2011) [-]
it does make sense for them to pay the same percentage. Punishing people for succeeding is not what this country was built on. Plus there aren't enough rich people for 40% taxes on them alone to make a difference.
User avatar #97 to #96 - satanisthesavior (03/05/2011) [-]
It's not punishing. People who earn more money should pay more in taxes. It's basic math.
User avatar #98 to #97 - SteyrAUG (03/05/2011) [-]
and 10% of 1 million is 100,000 whereas 10% of 10,000 is 1000.
User avatar #99 to #98 - satanisthesavior (03/05/2011) [-]
And the richer people are paying more taxes, which makes sense.
User avatar #100 to #99 - SteyrAUG (03/05/2011) [-]
but the rich people are paying something like 60% total taxes vs 5% total taxes of the poor.
User avatar #101 to #100 - satanisthesavior (03/05/2011) [-]
Thats because the poor people get tax cuts (it's more important that they eat and have shelter than it is they pay taxes). And the rest of the taxes goes to people in the middle, who aren't poor but who aren't rich either.

Also, the people who are rich make A TON of money (many far more than just $1 million), so if you look at how much money total all the rich people make versus how much money total all the middle and poor people make, the rich people make like 70% of the money. Therefore, their share of the total taxes should also be 70%.

Infinity is an abstract concept.
