You wanna try growing up in the uk in the 70s when i had been taught the imperial system til age 12 then was taught the metric system when we 'joined europe'.......much confusion ensued. Now some people use metric, some dont, so you gotta know both really! Metric is more sensible and easier to use IMHO. Does america really think its too difficult? Smokin pot helps you understand both systems...heheh
#501 - anonymous (02/03/2010)
thats the wonder of marijuana it teaches us americans the metric system
#488 - anonymous (01/31/2010)
Every other country had t switch to metric at some point, we all had difficulty, I remember when I was a kid here in Australia how everything suddenly changed and there was confusion for a few years. what happens is the who can't change, get old and die off and the kids adapt. sounds a bit mean, but that's how it works. What, the US can't because it's "Too hard" come off it.

"too hard". thats what she said
#503 to #488 - anonymous (02/10/2010)
Your country is going to die off long before The United States of America. It's literally a certainty.

Only reason I dislike the graph is the subtitles. They're redundant. There isn't a point to having the graph if the subtitle tells us the same thing.
User avatar #499 to #474 - MrSuper (02/03/2010)
if you havent realized its not exactly to scale. it doesnt have numbers on it either, so thts why the subtitles are put there. or if your referring to the "inches to a foot" subtitles, i dont see your point...

I would like US change to the metric system. Engineering would be way more simple (sadly, a lot of the references and the data come from there)
#465 - anonymous (01/24/2010)
USA!! USA! USA!
#464 - anonymous (01/24/2010)
Looks like you dont care about the metric system or the proper use of the word 'there'.
#469 to #464 - anonymous (01/25/2010)
yep i don't as long as you got what i was saying
#459 - anonymous (01/24/2010)
OK i,m tired of this can people start saying What country there from and what country they are in favor of at the end of the Comment so i know who's who. for example:

i don't care if we don't use the Metric System. I'm happy just the way it is.

I'm from the USA and in favor of the USA
User avatar #457 - helloppl (01/24/2010)
america got owned
#456 - anonymous (01/24/2010)
metric ftw
#452 - anonymous (01/24/2010)
Yeah cuz americal dont need the rest of the worlds SHIT amaerica. . . .F*** YEAH!
User avatar #451 - girguy ONLINE (01/24/2010)
I'm an American and I actually wish they'd switch it to the metric. It's too confusing and Lopsided. We're the odd ones out!
#450 - anonymous (01/24/2010)
USA does both.
User avatar #458 to #450 - MrSuper (01/24/2010)
so does Canada. We don't talk in metres when we say who tall we are. We use feet and inches. Same with weight, we all use pounds. (lmao captcha: miles)
User avatar #453 to #450 - rherrero (01/24/2010)
by that do you mean it goes both ways?
User avatar #505 to #453 - Scrumpadoochous (02/13/2010)
thats what she said

Metric makes small men feel large
#445 - Eggs (01/24/2010)
well us americans just always have to be different lol

About two decades ago, the united states made a concerted effort to change to the metric system. Laws were passed, requirements were made. It was even made a law that construction drawings had to be made in metric rather than english units.

The result was that every drawing and every construction site had to correct errors made because of converting from english to metric and metric back to english. They kind of forgot that every US workman had english scale tools and that all architects used scales and charts and pipe sizing based on inches and feet rather than metrics.

Bottom line, the US is an english measurement country and is pretty apt to stay that way.

one thing---- it is kinda hard to suddenely switch an entire nations speeds, recors, information, etc to metric when there's millions of things already in standard measurment aand not to mention teaching the entire nation the new system too
#435 - anonymous (01/24/2010)
im american and every one i know uses the metric system even though were soppoesed to use the standard
#442 to #435 - anonymous (01/24/2010)
You got it backwards, Americans use the english system (feet and inches) not metric.
#428 - anonymous (01/24/2010)
maybe i like roller coasters. you did think of that one did you whore jk
#425 - anonymous (01/24/2010)
I generally agree, but only scientifically. It does make math easier, generally. However, metric sometimes sacrifices "understandability" to keep this.

Fahrenheit vs. Celsius:
Fahrenheit was established because each degree is the smallest difference in temperature that the human body is capable of recognizing, making it ideal for whether. Celsius is arbitrary, and specific temperatures in Celsius are not nearly as readily recognizable as Fahrenheit. I can relate a specific temperature to 70, 71, or 72 degrees Fahrenheit.

I'm running out of room, but the point is that the English system was designed with you in mind, and metric was designed with scientists in mind. Yes, it's much easier to memorize, but not nearly as easy to visualize.
#436 to #425 - anonymous (01/24/2010)
Totally incorrect: Farenheit was determined by marking the level on a mercury guage each day for a year. The coldest day was arbitrarily marked zero, the warmest 100 and evenly graduated from there. That's why Farenheit is called the Human temperature scale.

Celsius, previously called Centigrade was determined from the mercury guage level when submerged in a mixture of melted and liquid water, thus zero and in steam, thus 100. Accordingly, 32 F equates to Zero C and 212F to 100C. Celsius is oriented to science.
#430 to #425 - anonymous (01/24/2010)
you are aware tht in germany where fahrenheit was invented
they use celsius.
#433 to #430 - anonymous (01/24/2010)
That doesnt matter you retard. Germany has a lot more scientists now then it did a while back. Europe is home to a LOT of science labs.
#437 to #433 - anonymous (01/24/2010)
And a lot of gibbering idiots.
#426 to #425 - anonymous (01/24/2010)
er, we are talking about metric vs. imperial.
nothing to do with farenheit vs. celsius
#429 to #426 - anonymous (01/24/2010)
farenheit vs celsius IS imperial vs. metric, dumb fuck. He was giving a specific example.
