I feel like this is a dumb question, but is it ok to go to a Barnes & Noble or something and ask if they have the Necronomicon? I dunno if the mainstream views it as unholy or just another piece of literature, and I'd kind of like to read it...

**** mainstream.
And it's totally okay, I'm sure only the hardcore Christians find it unholy. The same ones that thought Dante's Inferno and The Davinci Code and The Golden Compass were unholy.

i'm not sure what you'r definition of hardcore Christian is ... but i'm pretty religious (considering being a priest) and i don't have a problem with any of those books

google said: "The Necronomicon is a fictional grimoire appearing in the stories by horror writer H. P. Lovecraft and his followers"

fictional ... not real -- if you're reading it for entertainment then there's not problems at all (same with the Davinci code, Angels & Demons, and all of those books); however if you believe that the books are true [nonfiction] then i'd have to speak up and 'respectfully disagree'

There is a difference between hardcore Jesus-freaks and religious people.
I however choose my own path and don't have any problem with people choosing to follow whoever. I neither lead, nor follow, but hate the hypocrites who choose 'salvation' and constantly judge other parties. Organized religion doesn't have my vote, but I don't care if others are in it.

But yes, some follow it religiously, others just love the language and literature.

very true ... i can't stand jesus-freaks, people trying to shove their religion down other peoples throats and have a 'holier than tho' attitude all the time

i think religion is important, but theres a lot to be said about common decency

... the same goes for over politically correct people

People just blindly follow others thinking that spouting what they have heard in whatever way they want makes them correct. Politics, Religion, life in general. Old people, young people, everyone.

I myself am independent on both accounts. I am spiritual, but not religious. ... And not spiritual in the hippie sense, but in the dictionary sense. I take aspects of many beliefs, from Christianity, to Shamanism, Taoism, and many others, and mix them with deep thoughts out of my being.

i feel the same way, except that all of my core beliefs and ideologies match with Christianity ... that might be because i was born and raised catholic, but I have studied a lot of different religions and plan on looking at more

as stoner as it sounds ... i love just sitting in deep thought, or having meaningful conversations with people (and i always find the conversations with people of other faiths to be more interesting -- as long as it doesn't turn into an argument or they thy to tell me i'm wrong)

long story short - to each his own, if you're happy and truly believe what you profess then more power to you

Exactly, as long as they are as open to discussion as you are and they don't feel need to argue their beliefs or push them onto you or judge you for what you believe, than those are the best conversations.
