To think the United States is in debt up to 13 trillion dollars, government fails.

i do hate the fact that britain has adopted the american number system. a billion should be a million million, not a thousand million, and a trillion should be a billion billion, not a thousand billion. trust the americans to change something so that they can avoid having to do any extra work, like counting, or writing a few extra zeros.

What if we just keep making money? Then we`ll be richer than anyone else.
User avatar #153 to #103 - Kannas (11/09/2010) [-]
That's not how it works. You know Fort Knox? Well, they aren't just hoarding gold there. That's the national treasury, and it's what backs up the U.S. dollar. Each dollar is equal to X amount of gold. Believe it or not, there is a finite amount of gold in there. So printing more money makes each and every existing dollar worth a little less. That is how the economy works, and why the value of the dollar vs. other currencies fluctuates. By printing more money, we would still have to pay the same amount in "gold" where 1 dollar=x gold. By making more, we would technically have to pay more dollars.

Money hasn't been backed by gold in decades dumbass

Then what the **** do I buy my food with? Mother ******* paper that happens to have stuff printed on it and some threads in it to prove it is a real piece of printed on paper?
#156 to #155 - CarRamRod ONLINE (11/09/2010) [-]
Exactly, thats all money is based on since like 1950, it's floating currency, look it up, it's all just based on the idea that everyone has accepted the value of the money and will take it

It's not that simple. We have to keep making MORE money to replace the debt, which would make the debt even worse
