but do the majority of fj immediately set their settings to show new uploads to "Asc" so they'll see new uploads when they come to the site? i personally don't think so because whenever I come to fj i just look through the top posts, thumb stuff up, then just leave. so i'm just saying, i figured i'd leave that stickied there so just for those who stick to "top posts" could see it and check out the post. im sure red thumbs may discourage other people but i honestly think it's nothing to be serious about.

well you have a point about those that are "addicted", but on the other side of the coin are newer users or those who don't frequent FJ as much and so wouldnt bother with or the adjust their settings, and i kind of feel they make up a large majority of FJ.

true, but again i'm making a rough estimate here but i say 40 to 60 percent of new users are actually old users who either got their account banned or forgot there password/username or anons who finally decided to make an account after a few months to a couple of years. But i do agree with what you say but promoting your new uploads on another upload you made is apparently a real big "no no" on this site because some people will probably think you're a thumb whore just trying to get more thumbs and attention

youre right, but isn't "thumb whoring" something like saying "+25 thumbs up for more!" or "+25 for more -25 for never again"? What i did is the practically the same as posting a link for a different post in the description, which many people do, only for this instance it's in the comments being stickied. It's a bit backwards to me imo

It's not a puzzle at all. You're right; people do typically put the links to their other posts in the description. But you didn't do that. You put it as a comment; a comment where when I'm sorting by top rated (or newest for that matter), yours automatically gets put at the top. It calls extreme attention to it, and you knew it would do this. Therefore, as you said, you put it there in order to get more people to look at it and thumb it up.

AKA, you were specifically using this post to promote your other one above the other newest uploads, because you wanted more people to see it and thumb it up. AKA thumbwhoring.

No puzzle, pretty straightforward onslaught of deserved red thumbs to me.

I'm having a very hard time figuring out if FJ approves of this or not.

Because you have times like this...where everyone gets mad at you for posting your other content...
But then people do it all the time with stuff like "Fact comps", and everyone loves them for it.

A little consistency would be nice.
#85 to #81 - Fgner

The difference is that fact comps are (often) interesting. The more you bring is better, and they're all on the same topic. But you can't be sure you'll ever see another because it's so relative to the taste/mood of the new content browsers.

So they give you a link to a continuation of that post, with basically the same content - but more of it. So even if they didn't get front page, you could easily find it.

This kind of shameless self-promotion is just ridiculous. Sticking a comment on your content to make people go to a completely unrelated post which wasn't even interesting/funny/feely is blatant thumb-whoring.

So the rules to stickying ****? Sticky a really great comment. Sticky a really stupid comment. Or sticky a comment that's relevant to the ******* post. Don't sticky for promotion or thumbs.

You now know the rules, and have a fantastic wallpaper.

Actually, that fence is mostly there to keep people from falling in. Monster trucks in rallies almost always have special systems that stop the truck, should it get too close to the audience.

It's not about if people wanted to enter the field (or race track, whatever it's called).
It's about signaling, that this part is for the crowd, and this part is for the people who are performing something.
You can also use the same example on a football stadium, on the tribunes, where the crowd is standing/sitting. The fence (or grid, can't remember what it's called) is not that big, so if people wanted to, they could just jump right down. They don't however.
If people however, cross the fence, they are putting their own (and possibly others) lives in danger.
I don't really think people would walk over it, unless they have some kind of disorder, that can't see the danger of entering the track.
