The USA draw a red line when they said that no chemical weapons would be acceptable in Syria. Now it has happened(or so they say) and USA has two choises. To keep their word and show the world and their enemies(Iran, North Korea) that the USA will take action when someone break's their demands, or they wont attack syria and the world will know that the USA didn't keep their promise to strike at any nation using chemical weapons. I think that a US attack will be useless, but I think that the USA cant back down when they said that they would attack if they were to use chemical weapons, To back down is a sign of weakness sadly.

But seriously: (PS: I had this discussion before: www.funnyjunk.com/funny_pictures/4765532/YEA/268#268)

Alright, I wanted to post my opinion here. Please take a look at my arguments.

For the last time, this is nothing like all the other wars. Venezuela and Iraq were oil. This is beating the bully. This war cannot be paid for by itself. At least a show of force to the Syrian government needs to be done, because those ******* don't listen to diplomats or economics. Somebody gotta get the attack on the Syrian people stopped.

Before you reply, be aware that I am a European libertarian citizen, and I oppose war in almost all instances. But strikes only are not the same as war. War imposes a desire to end the event in control of the opponent. Strikes are a warning shot. That is acceptable. It is a warning to the Syrian government.

However, I agree that Obama should have discussed and coordinated with NATO, or at the very least his own Congress, before declaring the action definite. Although, they're mostly Republican warmongers and Democrat libertarians anyway, so that wouldn't really make a difference, I expect.

TL;DR

This is no war, this is a warning only. And don't tell me Syria doesn't deserve it. Obama should have discussed and coordinated, though.

I am open to suggestions, questions and (counter-)arguments. Just leave the stupid out of your comment, if you can find yourself to do so, please.

I find it ironic that Obama's whole candidacy was based on change when he has basically done all of the things everyone hates Bush for doing. And yet all of the people who voted for him in the first place still defend him. I'm not going to lie or sugarcoat it: if Obama wasn't black he wouldn't have been elected the first or second time. Everyone hates Romney for being Mormon and rich, but at least he ******* understood how the economy works.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and post an opinion.

Appeasement only makes the aggressor more aggressive. If the United States (preferably backed by a "coalition of the willing") were to intervene in Syria, that shows a clear message to the world that tyrants and human rights violations will not be tolerated. Too many innocent people have died in Syria already, and I would be ashamed if my country and my generation were to sit idly while these attacks continue and continue. America still has enemies in the world. North Korea's got the bomb and Iran wants one. This is not the time for appeasement.

Ironically, that's actually what Syrian forces just did to a ******** of civilians. Only they used gas, not fire. So the US would be more like a heavy on the blue team coming in with its gun still warming up while Russia (Blue spy dressed in red) tries to convince the blue team not to fight...

At least Obama is going through the proper channels. From what I know, he got the facts about what happened first, then decided, IF Congress votes for it, to take action.

CONGRESS is the chain of the government that has the right to make decisions about going to war and directing where we place the troops of all divisions of military.

Something Bush forgot when he sent us to the Middle East without checking in first.
User avatar #78 to #69 - thewaronbeingcool (08/31/2013) [-]
He doesn't have the facts yet though. They're still waiting for the UN investigators to return with their findings.

I don't think Syria will be as easy as Afghanistan, Libya, Egypt or Iraq.
