Elephants can recognize themselves in the mirror. **** means they've got a since of identity.

and not only that, they've been known to use tools like tree trunks and **** , and also cry when friends die and have their own ceremonies for death

Also they use their trunks like snorkels, and weapons. They've been known to kill large predators (leopards and **** ) who are stupid enough to **** with them, in a single crushing blow with their trunk.

If you like reading up on elephants, you should read up on crows. They're surprisingly similar. Everything you just described is something that crows do.
For anyone interested, here's a damn fine documentary on crows.

Just watched it, I knew they were smart, but damn, that's impressive.

Indeed. Every time I see a crow, I make sure not to upset it so I am not to be tormented by them for the foreseeable future.

Time to run my own experiment and possibly gain animal allies in the process. I'm going to be super nice to the crows around my area, protecting, and feeding them and such. Then once I've gained their trust, I'm going to make it as obvious as possible that I hate someone and see what happens.
