I saw it, it was better than I thought.

There were plot holes so big that Kaiju could have come out of them...but still alright, i guess.

"Giant fat squishy thing? Let's punch/shoot it, getting horribly damaged."

BECAUSE SWORDS ARE LAST RESORT AND WE PRETEND WE DON'T HAVE THEM.

"Guys, the Jaegers are getting destroyed. It's not worth funding them, BUILD A WALL INSTEAD!"

"GREAT IDEA JIM"

"HEY GUYS THE WALL GOT DESTROYED AT SYDNEY"

"Well, we can't just go reinstate the Jaegar program. I mean, come on. They dont' need money or global support. Let's just...you know...let it happen."

1.Mind-melding and 2 pilots for the robots. They said that it's required and blah blah blah..
But then they're still ******* piloting the robots with arm and leg sockets and having to manually flip switches off the to the side during combat, what the **** is the point in the mind melding?

2.Punching the monsters. That is a horrible step backward in technology for something so advanced. If you have any common sense in history or biology you should know that the human body is probably one of the worst natural fighters. We don't have claws or sharp teeth, so how do we survive? We make ******* weapons. We don't punch predators into submission.
Rather than get all the jaegers killed by making them punch the monsters it would make so much more sense to just build bigger guns.

3.The absolutely pointless back story of the old black guy (can't remember names) and his relationship and over protectiveness of the Chinese girl.

4.The friggin' 20 year old scientists and jaeger pilots that act like a bunch of ******* children through this **** . Especially that Australian cunt. Just plain stupid writing, creating pointless nonsensical conflict just for conflict's sake.

That's pretty much my main irritations.

Yeah.. I will admit the fight scenes were cool.. and honestly that's what I went in expecting. Stupid characters, designs, and story, but cool effects.
I even watched it in IMAX 3D just for the effects.. I really wasn't disappointed in that regard. The only character that was rather enjoyable was Ron Perlman's character.. can't remember a single name from the movie, I just called him Hellboy. But that's only because I like the actor.
But as a nitpicker I just can't ignore the obvious flaws..

My brother and I came up with the idea that they'd open up a rift in the Atlantic Ocean so they can use European countries Like the UK, Germany (which would be some super high-tech AI controlled thing), Ireland, France (which would get destroyed whilst running away) and many other great countries. I guess America could tag along...

*$130 million budget. But yeah, I think the movie was ******* sick, especially because The plot of "we cant punch aliens hard enough" was solved by routinly punching aliens. In fact, all of the drama in the movie was solved by punchin **** . Also, they dragged a ******* boat through hong kong and beat the **** out of a 9001 ft tall alien with it and also GLaDOS

#16 to #13 - crocodilelord (08/04/2013) [-]
I believe the reason Gypsy Danger did so well while two other Jaegers were taken down so quickly was because of the Kaijus hivemind-evolution thing. They say in the film that the kaijus share a hivemind and learn and adept from the kaijus that die. Gypsy Danger was out of commission for a long time and didn't have many victories, while the other Jaegers continued to fight and win. That meant the Kaijus evolved to fight those Jaegers specifically, and gave Gypsy Danger the edge it needed to win.

That one kaiju obsessed scientist drifts with part of the brain of one and finds out they have a hive mind. The very next attack there are two kaiju specialized to kill Jagers (Hence the emp and acid). Not only that but if you pay attention it's the first time the kaiju deliberately go after the pilots of the Jagers. The guy's brother was more of an accident since the kaiju was mostly targeting the torso.

It was a terrible movie. This is a fact even the producers and directors understood. Something as cheesy as Gypsy's fist barely touching the desk to start the desktop perpetual motion sculpture means they knew it was a lame movie.

Why didn't the Jaegers open with the plasma cannon, rockets, or CHAINSWORD OF INSTANT ANNIHILATION BY CUTTING IN HALF? Oh, because punching aliens is less effective, so the movie wouldn't have had to be 131 minutes long.

hey man, it's all relative to what they themselves like. (though that kinetic sculpture thing was pretty stupid)

looking through this thread you can see a lot of relative explanation for things that you're mentioning
1.the jaegers did have plasma cannons, but i guess those probably had limited shots
2. the other jaeger did have rockets, 6 of them in fact embedded in its chest
3. (and mentioned lower) the sword wasn't meant to be used much either because kaiju blood was acidic and probably would wear out quick

TL;DR it's a movie about giant robots fighting aliens from another demention. you can't really criticize it too much based off what it is

User avatar #136 to #63 - sinonyx (08/04/2013) [-]
it wasn't 6 years

at the begining of the movie, they killed the first kaiju with tanks and planes, and that happend for like half a year before they started the jeagers, then it jumped forwards 5 years, so they couldn't have had that jeager for more than 3 years

A quote direct from the Pacific Rim wiki site: "Hailing from Russia, Cherno is one of the heaviest and best armored Jaegers, albeit one of the slowest. Cherno successfully defended the Pan Pacific Defense Corps' Russian coastline for six years against all Kaiju attacks." You are right, it was 6 years, not 6 kills, although it did only kill 6, so you're both right.

I don't really get the complaints. The two biggest I see are how people hate how American it was and that they hated the love story at the end(and that it was cliche, but honestly I thought that was the point; to make a cliche movie where giant robots fought giant monsters. If you didn't like that as a premise, then it's understandable.)

*SPOILERS*

The final battle was with a Japanese woman, an Australian guy, an American guy, and a Black British guy in German robots. The only other Americans are the people who cut the Jaegar funding. America was not known in a very good light here. And I didn't see any love story at all. The most romantic they got was a hug at the end. If I was in the same situation and my partner was some 80 year old sex offender I'd still probably hug him because, holy **** , I just witnessed 2 nuclear blasts, closed a dimensional portal to a realm where skyscraper sized monsters have been coming out of in a war that's been going on for several years, and lived.

because it implied it was a secruity measure rather than part of the rift, which would only need to stop in coming traffic. Think like in stargate sg-1 and Atlantis the teams only needed id codes for coming home not for an outgoing wormhole.

if not that then there was no one on the otherside to monitor traffic.

But team kaiju created the rift, they built a doorway into hostile territory. They don't have to worry about anything leaving their side because what ever leaves could only be friendly. They only have to worry about pesky jaegers coming to their side. So they link it to the dna the secruity measure to kaiju dna. you only bar a door on one side.

That is what made sense to me, but if you got any theories love to hear them.
Did you know charlie hunnam (the main character),played jacks teller in sons of anarchy along side ron perlman(the blackmarket guy) and that charlie hunnam is from newcastle.

Well, I thought that they said (Don't quote me on this, it's been a week since I've seen the movie) the Rift wouldn't function without the correct code, ea: This is why the scientist dude ran in at the last moment saying that it wouldn't do **** w/o a monster. If the rift wouldn't work at all 1 way, why would it work the other way? Considering the code is what activates it, meaning that without the monsters passing through, the rift is "Offline" so to say.

It makes sense though after you give it some thought.

well someone said here that the reason they were taken out so quickly was because the kaijus were learning and becoming more adaptable to fight them because they saw them fight so many times and never really got to seem gypsy. thats why they didnt have a real plan for him when they showed up

So, it really is a Live Action Evangelion?

Not really, it's more like a live action power rangers meets godzilla. The acting is about as good.

Am I the only one who loved the cheesiness of this movie? I was expecting one liners. Ex) JAEGER BOMB. Then they jump up and drop an elbow.

It was a great departure from the endless stream of gritty and dark action movies of late.
Yes, there were a lot of cliches and stereotypes, but I think most of them worked in this case.

Because of this movie, I now believe that we possess the needed technology to produce a Gundam Seed movie, it is a glorious day for the human race

I enjoyed Seed, but I'd prefer a Double 00 movie.
