i always thought that this movie's plot was way more parallel with the avatar movie than pocahontas, which everyone claimed.

think about it.

all 3 are the same, it's called the "Noble Savage" paradigm.

essentially it's a common storytelling device that demonstrates a beauty to be found in lifestyles that are outside the norms of western civilization, easily characterized by such stories as Dances with Wolves, The Last Samurai, Pocohontas, or any other tale in which someone from said western, modern civilization ends up thrown into a society that operates under customs that said western society would view as savage in some way, and ends up finding the beauty in their ways and often times accepting them as their own.

I find it kindof ironic that these are called, "savage" (I get that it's a title, but still.)

Actually it's a more direct rip-off of Stargate.

There are an awful lot of major plot-points that ring the same for both films but honestly, Stargate doesn't have the same sense of humour or artistic direction this film has.

By your logic, Dancing with Wolves was ripped off by Pocahontas due to the massive similarities. However, there are differences that set them apart. Same goes for a lot of WW2 movies and any movie based on a war, all are going to be similar but will be different in their own right.

In short, no its not a direct rip off.

>No ship in stargate
>Crew are soldiers, not just 2 people and a bunch of random mercs
>Government funded, not philanthropist funded
>wormhole travel, not exploratory expedition with heavy logistics implications
>Completely different time period and context
>In stargate they were looking for origins of the pyramids, in atlantis they were looking for an energy source to make themselves rich
>In stargate Ra was the bad guy, in Atlantis Kiva was a hero
>In stargate, Kurt Russel didn't betray everyone for his own personal gain

The differences are ******* extreme. There are correlations, but this movie is just as much a noble savage trope as it is inspired by the concepts in stargate.

I think the fish-cars win in comparison.
