People forgot that Sony pulled almost the exact same stunt with the PS3.

we both know that's not true.

It's still a pile of **** , why do I need a ****** Kinect. Why do I need to voice control everything. Why do i need to watch TV through it even when I've got TiVo. I'm not a lazy cunt and I can make a little effort to reach for the TV remote. And the fact they even considered this DRM and 24 hour offline limit just makes me think how much of an unreasonable pile of **** the game & film industry are turning in to with all this piracy wank. They trust nobody now.

I'm getting a PS4 purely because they've not revolved it around unneeded garbage and because Sony have been a good sport.

Not to mention that the Ps4's hardware is more powerful and its 100 dollars cheaper.

i second this

Why do I feel that Microsoft is gonna back stab the Xbox One owners when the console sells pretty good? I mean bringing back the DRM again and **** .
My face if they did that.
User avatar #43 to #25 - newforomador (06/21/2013) [-]
I'm pretty thats technically illegal. I'm too tired to back it up with facts at the moment though, get back to me in about 12 hours.
#47 to #43 - notafunnyguy (06/21/2013) [-]
its not illegal. they change the TOS to allow DRM, get you to scroll to the bottom and click agree ( without reading it, because who does that?) and bam, they can do what they want.

never trust a company that would try this in the first place
User avatar #50 to #47 - sharklazers (06/21/2013) [-]
TOS are really weak in court, so that wouldnt change ****
#42 to #25 - bgr ONLINE (06/21/2013) [-]
That would be the douchiest move in the history of the world. EA would stare at them in shock for doing that. Not to mention, no sensible customer will ever trust Microsoft again, and eventually they will fail as a console division.

How is DRM, required 24 check ins, social media, TV, required internet and Kinect and no sharing considered steps "foreword?"
#59 to #44 - anon (06/21/2013) [-]
Forward... Foreword is something not even remotely the same

"Social Media"
Somebody has forgotten the "Annoy the **** out of your friends" button on the PS4 controller
User avatar #65 to #62 - vigilum (06/22/2013) [-]
You could create separate account for your game stuff or just choose who you're gonna share it with
Other people might not do it, but whatever.

Is it now backwards compatible? that and used games were my big two issues.
#14 to #12 - anon (06/21/2013) [-]
I hope they made it backwards compatible, hopefully Sony will feel under pressure at microsoft sorting their **** and get their heads out of their asses and give us it as well.

IT is a hardware problem, not a software problem. They can re-release games from before, even give them for free, but they can't make it backwards compatible without restarting from scratch, stfu.
User avatar #15 to #12 - CreepyNeighbor (06/21/2013) [-]
It's not backwards compatible no.

Digital Rights Management.

Basically ******** they put in to stop people pirating stuff, and it never stops the pirates.

Is anyone else a little disappointed? It was a step to the inevitable future, maybe a step too big, but it was one in the right direction...
#28 to #24 - anon (06/21/2013) [-]
Yeah, I am. I wanted digital to take over consoles faster, now it will be much slower.
User avatar #33 to #24 - thewaronbeingcool (06/21/2013) [-]
One step forward distribution wise, about twenty steps back for everything else.
User avatar #41 to #33 - xkmarcus (06/21/2013) [-]

There was no reason why the Xbone had to sign in every day, and there was no reason we couldn't borrow games or play used games. That was just them being greedy.
User avatar #51 to #46 - xkmarcus (06/21/2013) [-]
Yes there was. You had to connect to Xbox Live every day for multiple reasons, the main one being their family sharing program, which meant you could lend any games to any 10 people without having to give them a physical copy (so there goes your borrowing argument), you had to check in so they could make sure that 10 people weren't playing 1 paid game all at the same time, let's be reasonable, it's perfectly fine for them to not want 10 people playing all at once, so only 1 in 10 people who want the game would buy it. As for playing used games, this doesn't seem to be a problem with steam now does it? If all games went digital, like Microsoft wanted, games would be cheaper, there would have been steam like sales, and you would even be getting many free games/demos.

Microsoft didn't really explain themselves very well, but the internet never gave them a chance to.
User avatar #60 to #51 - thewaronbeingcool (06/21/2013) [-]
That link seems to have been taken down. Here's a news story with the gist of it though:

news.cnet.com/8301-10805_3-57590409-75/heartbroken-ms-employee-bemoans-xbox-one-changes/
User avatar #58 to #51 - thewaronbeingcool (06/21/2013) [-]
The game sharing thing was ******** . You got to play the game for like 15-45 minutes, and then it made you buy the full version.

pastebin.com/TE1MWES2

Not official, but then that explains why they hardly talked about one of the xbone's supposedly 'best features'

On the used game restrictions, Steam has sales because it has to compete with gog, GRG, Origin and all of the other digital distribution services as well as pirates. The xbone would have no such competition, as the only place to get your digital games on the xbone would be via XBL.
User avatar #63 to #58 - xkmarcus (06/21/2013) [-]
Ok, I didn't know that, but reading the rest of that link I feel even more disappointed to be honest, I'm mostly disappointed in the gaming community though, those who call themselves "real" or "hardcore" gamers would look at all the wrong things.

True the internet won't forget but they did it early enough that now by the time its released nobody will care what they said. you still have to have the kinect kinected to play though i think.
#18 to #11 - anon (06/21/2013) [-]
you never needed the kinect connected to play in the first place. You won't need it now. You just need/needed it for all those extra features that microsoft was bragging about like seemlessly moving from gaming to watching tv.
#29 - pretzalman (06/21/2013) [-]
You know at least they changed the console in the inevitable direction, people are just too stubborn to change. The the Xbox one and ps4 are almost identical, I mean who needs choices?

Everyone who's ever worked in retail knows that months before the actual release date these things have been manufactured and are in storage. I highly doubt they're 'changing' anything manual inside the console themselves and this was all a huge marketing ploy.. possibly one that will now backfire on them. I'm sure they were hoping that the community would be like 'Oh microsoft we KNEW you wouldn't forsake us! *buys console*' But what they really got was

Microsoft: Hey guys it's ok we changed everything!
Heheh.. guys?

.......plz respond
User avatar #31 to #30 - thewaronbeingcool (06/21/2013) [-]
Well when you first get the console you have get a day one patch to remove the restrictions, then it can be played offline.
User avatar #35 to #31 - Underground (06/21/2013) [-]
I just don't see how they could have figured making offline play unavailable was a good idea in the first place.
User avatar #48 to #30 - eddymolly (06/21/2013) [-]
Good thing they've still got 5 months to change anything then, but they'd only need software patching really anyhow
