Methane in the water.
User avatar #7 to #3 - valorcore (06/16/2013) [-]
So, you're saying that somebody farted in the water and now it's on fire?
User avatar #9 to #7 - thisisestonia (06/16/2013) [-]
In some parts of the world, the methane in the ground is getting into the wells, from which people get their water from. WIth that methane enriched water they can't do much anymore, it's not edible either.

It's actually caused by shale gass drilling, because for some reason Americans didn't feel the need to take precautions.

Fun fact, the fiery water of death is a result of fracking. well, not fracking itself, but the chemicals soaking into the ground and workers dumping the chemicals in streams and **** . But then again, I could be wrong. The **** do I know, I'm just a cat

False. There have been many studies on the issue and while the cause is not known, it has been concluded that it is not due to fracking.

There is another possibility, I recently saw a program about this sort of thing on TV. It originates from a new way of putting in gas lines, which are relatively small and are usually made out of a kind of plastic so they can bend a bit.
Anyway, the lines are placed in by being inserted into the ground while inside a burrowing machine instead of just excavating the whole pathway that it needs to go on. By doing this they save a **** ton of time/money and disturb the neighbour less.
Problem is that when they do this, they're going in blind and often times the city's pipeline system maps aren't perfect because they move and because people don't mark their exact positions.
So, sometimes these drills go right through water/sewer pipelines with the gas ones and then when they go in to clear those water/sewer pipelines with once again, sharp drillin-like machines, they can completely cut the gas pipelines and then the gas enters your water and sewer lines. Worse than that is the fact that those machines are scraping all along the pipes to clean them so sparks are made inside and ignite the gas, sometimes actually blowing up inside MULTIPLE houses who all share the same pipe system.

I'm assuming this is something along the same lines, but on a smaller level.

Fire-water is bad.
Fire-water is bad.
User avatar #41 - Whetstone (06/16/2013) [-]
That's happening to some of the houses around the area where I live. Due to Hydrofracking, natural gas and other toxic chemicals get into the ground water. When people get their water from a well, the gas and chemicals go into your sink and you can light your water on fire.

I had the same thing with spaghetti once, it caught fire because a few strings fell under the pot and it was a gas stove, leading it to the strings IN the pot.
It seems to be a gas stove also on the pic.

I was thinking about watching it yesterday, but I didn't. What genre is it? It looked like a fictional movie in the style of a documentary.
