Snakes which have haemotoxic venom, such as rattlesnakes, would have this effect. The venom of elapids such as cobras and mambas is neurotoxic, working on the nervous system, and does not affect the blood in this way.

Because Anything horrifying we can think of has already been outdone by nature. Nature itself evolves into a nightmare that wont go away until you scream yourself to death. This is the Sarcastic Fringehead. In my option we arnt dumping nearly enough oil into the oceans

It's actually from a Russels Viper...

Wrong again. The venom of both the Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake and the Russels Viper both cause coagulopathy when introduced to human blood. Coagulation hinders the blood's ability to clot and acts as a blood thinner.
#22 to #15 - anon (05/21/2013) [-]
Coagulation is the act of blood clotting, so please, explain to me how blood clotting prevents blood from clotting.
#30 to #22 - masterofanon (05/21/2013) [-]
the venoms cause coagulopathy which is a condition in which the blood’s ability to clot is impaired.
User avatar #37 to #30 - brenton (05/21/2013) [-]
Where did you read that Russell's Viper venom causes coagulopathy?
#39 to #37 - masterofanon (05/21/2013) [-]
Duh! wikipedia!
I actually went back to double check my research and I discovered that I had mistakenly assumed that coagulation and coagulopathy were the same thing. I discovered my mistake but no one really likes to admit when theyre wrong, right?

It's cow blood. With most snake venom, it makes human blood thinner, but something in cow blood makes it coagulate
User avatar #40 - Sockopolis (05/21/2013) [-]
Im guessing thats not good to have in your own blood vessels

That's what agglutination is, no? It happens when you get a transfusion of a non-compatible blood type as well.

i thought all snake venoms are neurotoxins
User avatar #13 to #12 - mtandy (05/20/2013) [-]
They come as neurotoxic, deadly neurotoxic, anticoagulant, haemotoxic, and necrotising venoms.
User avatar #14 to #13 - doooublebaass (05/20/2013) [-]
For future reference, Necrotising = Cytotoxic and the anti-coagulant venoms are haemotoxic. They're technically classified into Neurotoxic, haemotoxic and cytotoxic.

Most species of vipers have haemotoxic or cytotoxic venoms, most elapids (cobras, coral snakes, brown snakes, taipans etc) have neurotoxic venoms, although a couple of species of cobras have cytotoxic venoms, too.

Hope you learned something today.

How do you know they used your blood for this particular experiment and not a horses blood.

Is it possible or is it one of those things you can only note when you are from a certain race?

You don't.
