You don't need a 3500HD to pull a traile. .. The man who designed this was borderline genius.

The man who designed this was borderline genius.

Well, if the application of the hook, or whatever is on top of the car is easy its brilliant, but i bet it would be a awful experience to fit them together

It's funny, cause it was hitler
User avatar #12 to #8 - superpats (05/13/2013) [-]
its also funny because hitler WAS borderline genius
User avatar #13 to #12 - numbersixtyseven **User deleted account** (05/13/2013) [-]
Well... that's an awkward conclusion.

Faults aside, yeah... He was borderline genius.

nah, just a regular German (Austrian).
User avatar #37 to #8 - ThatDamnCow (05/14/2013) [-]
It's funny, hitler had almost nothing to do with it. He told Ferry Porsche to design and create "The Peoples Car" or Volkswagen in german, and this is what he came up with. The VW Type 1, better known as the beetle. And the trailer wasn't made by VW anyway.
User avatar #68 to #37 - ithinkihaveaids **User deleted account** (05/14/2013) [-]
well then, why was it made by?
#114 to #68 - jakatackka (05/14/2013) [-]
Just stop and think about that sentence for a minute.

I just want to take a minute and thank Adolf Hitler for this amazing, and versatile vehicle.

Wait, what?
#93 to #89 - John Cena (05/14/2013) [-]
The car in this GIF was ordered into existance by Adolf Hitler, built by Porsche (I believe) and made Volkswagen.

So he's thanking Hitler for Volkswagen, which is just one of the many actually good things Hitler did.
#112 to #93 - John Cena (05/14/2013) [-]
Hitler didn't invent it. He asked someone to invent a deece car. That's all.

#15 - sirbrentcoe (05/14/2013) [-]
why is this not a more common method of towing!? it would significantly reduce damage done to both trailer and vehicle due to jack-knifing!

Because people are stupid and think you need a big ass truck to pull anything.
#19 to #17 - Griffino (05/14/2013) [-]
But those stupid people are well aware that an efficient use of a "big ass truck's" torque and gear ratios often yield better gas mileage and drivetrain longevity. What Sirbrentcoe was saying was the configuration of the 5th wheel hitch. He had a good point.
User avatar #20 to #19 - corso (05/14/2013) [-]
...Since when do trucks have better mileage?
#21 to #20 - Griffino (05/14/2013) [-]
I guarantee, a f-250 diesel pulling a >1500lb trailer will get better gas mileage than a Volkswagen beetle
User avatar #22 to #21 - corso (05/14/2013) [-]
I don't think that trailer was that heavy.

Hills would be a problem
-prolly not enough power to go up them
-going down them I'd be constantly terrified that the trailer would slide around to the front
User avatar #65 to #51 - ithinkihaveaids **User deleted account** (05/14/2013) [-]
- will be able, unless you want to go 45' degrees
- true :/ maybe somekind of locking system?
User avatar #70 to #65 - shizzleinthedizzle (05/14/2013) [-]
yeah, an automatic exponential breaking system when the pressure on the connection between the car and trailer (when going down)
User avatar #71 to #70 - ithinkihaveaids **User deleted account** (05/14/2013) [-]
it would have to mechanical and simple though, to stay true to the VW Beetle's history
User avatar #73 to #71 - shizzleinthedizzle (05/14/2013) [-]
yeah but lets face it i dont think a beetle would survive such pressure xD
#74 to #73 - ithinkihaveaids **User deleted account** (05/14/2013) [-]
It actually would! the thing is a mechanical miracle, just like this one:
User avatar #75 to #74 - shizzleinthedizzle (05/14/2013) [-]
you think so man? I could be wrong, the only memory i have of the beetle was the the body was relatively weak. but i could be wrong
User avatar #95 to #75 - epicwinone (05/14/2013) [-]
body was weak, but the dam things also ran FOREVER and were simple to repair is needed
User avatar #77 to #75 - ithinkihaveaids **User deleted account** (05/14/2013) [-]
depends on the trailer I suppose, that looks like trailer that has thin plywood walls, its true that beetle wouldnt be able to handle the heavier ones

there is a reason they didnt catch on if the pivot point was inches of you could lock in position and indeed spin a bering but vw trannys are one of the most rugged ever created took my 5 years of off roading to kill mine and it was only b/c my clutch cable snapped and killed it
#56 to #5 - John Cena (05/14/2013) [-]
VW trans's are incredibly durable, especially if there is a bus trans swapped in. Which is as easy as unbolting the stock type 1 trans and bolting in a type2 bus trans. I love old VWs
#6 to #5 - kainhall (05/13/2013) [-]
more likly this is a standard trans... it would probably hold up.

I don't think that would be a good idea. It would probably be too much of a strain on the engine and end up causing damage.
