The camo provided is intended to prevent oily skin from shining. Your face is much more noticeable when sweating.

Actually in the army (British at least) dark coloured people are taught to wear camouflage cream as well as white people.

This is because their skin tends to by more oily and will shine more at night under the moon light which, in some cases, can give away your position more than a white face.

Pic related - A picture from the weekend we were told this. FYI, we were not regulars, just cadets.

User avatar #114 to #112 - Mazza (05/08/2013) [-]
Well, there were 1200 shooters at it, of which there were about 20 'nadians and 8 'strayans. The rest were from various places in Britain. I got a fair bit of gear by befriending the Q at Pirbright Barracks, who was part of the "Princess of Wales' ACF".

However, I often put little information snippets under things such as this and people seem to find them popular.

I have experience which a lot of people seem to like hearing about so I like sharing it :)

They actually told you biological differences? I couldn't even convince my social studies teacher that black people runs faster because of genetics. "Everyone is equal, they just run faster because they're more motivated." Bah.
#118 to #116 - tittystargalactica (05/08/2013) [-]
Yeeuuppp.

As you can see by this picture, the instructors didn't really need to be that sensitive towards the race issues because of the people there.

(Everyone has a moustache drawn on because the guy in the background had grown a moustache and his brother wanted to take the piss so got every cadet to draw one on.)

We have a metric **** ton of them in Essex.

I wish Australian Army Cadets would let you do cool **** with guns, Politically correctness on child soldiering is over the roof.
#62 to #58 - anon (05/08/2013) [-]
Yeah, we aren't allowed to do that stuff in Canada either. They are actually taking some courses out of the program because they have become too 'military'. What sense does that make if it's army cadets? Or even air & sea. But yeah, whenever my corps went up to go see our affiliated unit, they wouldn't let us take pictures of us even holding weapons because we were in our uniforms. How silly.
User avatar #146 to #62 - BubsyB (05/08/2013) [-]
I know right? we're all aloud to go paint balling together as long as we're not wearing a uniform.
#167 to #146 - anon (05/09/2013) [-]
Seriously? Yeah my corps won't ever allow us to do that. I just wish they'd put the 'Army' back in 'Army cadets'. My parents would always tell me stories about the times when they were in cadets and they got to play around with pyrotechnics and things like that. ******* awesome.
User avatar #168 to #167 - BubsyB (05/11/2013) [-]
Yeah no **** man, Airforce Cadets is out flying planes, Navy Cadets is out sailing boats, But as soon as Army Cadets does anything Army-like: "Errrhh neer Child Soldiering!"
User avatar #106 to #58 - tittystargalactica (05/08/2013) [-]
We used to get treated REALLY well by the regular soldiers too if we happened to be staying on the same camp as them.

This is a video (I'm not here for this) where some regulars played the 'enemy' for the cadets to have a damn good shoot out with.

User avatar #147 to #106 - BubsyB (05/08/2013) [-]
Well good on them, weird how sometimes they show more respect to cadets than they do to Reserves though.
User avatar #91 to #12 - werrew (05/08/2013) [-]
British cadets are pretty badass. Here in Canada cadets is pretty much like boy scouts, but I did get to shoot a c7 once. Keep up the good work man.

Chinook helicopter ride.

The RAF were doing some training or something on the same camp as us and offered to airlift us to our in-field camp site. Those guys were absolutely EPIC.

User avatar #107 to #102 - werrew (05/08/2013) [-]
I remember once at camp the senior cadets got a ride in a CH-146 Griffon
User avatar #108 to #107 - tittystargalactica (05/08/2013) [-]
That's pretty beastly.

Way more people should get involved in cadets.

User avatar #111 to #108 - werrew (05/08/2013) [-]
Yea your right. The problem here is many people don't want children being treated as soldiers so the cadet program had to be severely downgraded. Now it's more like scouts. Our marksmanship program is Olympic style shooting and the only chance we ever get to do anything really military is if we do the British exchange.

He still should have used that despite having dark skin. I'm pretty sure what they rubbed on them was charcoal, which is used to protect your skin against chemical attacks.

but i do understand it is a movie and that it was for humor.
#24 to #20 - muffinssnuffims (05/08/2013) [-]
Also it probably has an anti-reflection thing goin on. Black skin can still give off a bit of glare and whatnot, and probably does moreso than that stuff.

It makes skin matte so it scatters the light and light does not reflect making you harder to see in the dark.
