That's nothing compared to the mess they made of order of the phoenix. The whole movie had nothing to do with the book.

That's because that book was as boring as ****

They switched director to yates and he was who they had in OoTP, half blood prince, and deathly hallows. Personally I think he did a terrible job every time.
User avatar #34 to #23 - chiktikkavaspaus (04/26/2013) [-]
Well I thought that was the worst book of them all anyway.

On the whole, I found that Dumbledore from Goblet of Fire acted almsot completely against teh books Dumbledore's personality and demeanor. He yells, sounds angry, rarely shows poise.

From the books I've always seen Dumbledore to favor calm rationality. When he gets serious or angry he does so in a cold manner. When he gets flustered or confused he fumbles a bit till he collects his thoughts (not a common occurences but it happened once or twice).

I think if he was still alive to play Dumbledore then the part in the GOF he would have acted calm like the book. Harris was a very calm Dumbledore.
User avatar #105 to #90 - guidoforlife (04/26/2013) [-]
he is definitely who I pictured when reading the books. How do you think Richard Harris would have done with the battles in the later books/movies though??
User avatar #112 to #105 - shazzshabam (04/26/2013) [-]
Yeah, good point. But he definitely played the role how I expected Dumbledore to be. This part with the second Dumbledore where he runs at Harry rustled my jimmies a little. That shouldn't be how he should act. He should be calm and collected, but very powerful with his voice.
User avatar #113 to #112 - guidoforlife (04/26/2013) [-]
exactly, it would have been interesting to see Mr. Harris finish out the role. RIP.

See, it would've been a %1230500323 better series if the first dumbledoor didn't die after the second movie. R.I.P. Richard Haris, you made my childhood.

I prefer the Michael Gambon as Dumbledore.

I mean, don't get me wrong, Richard Harris was great (RIP). But the newer films wouldn't have been the same with him. Gambon brought more energy to the role. I can't imagine Richard Harris as Dumbledore in movies 4-7.

"Michael Gambon admitted later on that he saw "no point" in reading the books, so during the whole course of playing the role of Dumbledore, he never read any of them. "

www.imdb.com/title/tt0304141/trivia?ref_=tt_trv_trv

This is one of the reasons why I could barely stand Gambon as Dumbledore. Compared to Richard Harris, he's a complete mess.
#122 to #17 - anon (04/26/2013) [-]
Harris didn't like the books as much though and was afraid he'd only get remembered as an actor because of the "bloody books."
User avatar #176 to #17 - xxxlkxxx (04/26/2013) [-]
Alan never read the books either and he played Snape flawlessly. It's also kind of hard for an actor to stay true to a character if the director writing the script goes against character.

You guys are way to picky. He did a fine job.
User avatar #33 to #17 - chiktikkavaspaus (04/26/2013) [-]
Richard Harris was great, but I liked the energy Michael Gambon brought. I thought he did a good job for not reading the books.
User avatar #19 to #17 - sakuranbokiss (04/26/2013) [-]
I completely agree. I had a really big problem with him as Dumbledore. He was too gruff and angry instead of the sweet, old, funny Dumbledore I envisioned. Richard Harris was perfect.
#24 to #19 - anon (04/26/2013) [-]
That's more of a problem with the director.
#74 to #19 - fuddrucker (04/26/2013) [-]
That and the script. The other actors didnt just go off of the books to become their characters. Certain tones with dialogue and scenes have scripted cues for emotion. Gambon didnt have to read the books(though it would have helped) because the script told him how he was supposed to portray the character.
