love when cartoons break the fourth wall. .. They originally added the white gloves so hand gestures would be easier to distinguish, which didn't really work with black fingers.

That's not quite the situation. Mickey's Mellerdrammer is a short film released by Disney in 1933. The premise is that of Mickey and friends putting on a stage production of Harriet Beecher Stowe's famous anti-slavery novel Uncle Tom's Cabin.

In the production, Mickey plays Uncle Tom. Mickey was dressed in blackface: Exaggerated orange lips, bushy sidewhiskers made out of cotton, and his now-famous white gloves.

This film, along with other films released by Disney, led to the belief that Walt Disney himself was racist. However, most Disney scholars agree that Disney was not racist, but rather racially insensitive, as many people from his time were.

In either case, now you know where Mickey got his white gloves. The cartoon was probably not controversial at the time, but the perception changed as time passed and people's attitudes towards racial insensitivity changed.

because back when cartoons were black and white, it was hard for the characters drawn predominately in black to do hand gestures over their own body, so gloves were used.

Also, ever notice how Mickey's ears are always facing the camera? That's because otherwise his ears wouldn't make sense to draw

Am I the only one who wants to know what happened to Roxanne?

Max practically moved heaven and earth to get his ass to that concert just so she could see him on stage with powerline to impress her, then at the end of the movie they obviously hit it off, then three years later nothing? Not even any mention of the supposed girl of his dreams?
User avatar #64 to #60 - amadeuseap (04/26/2013) [-]
they met again at the house of mouse (assuming that was canon)
User avatar #66 to #64 - subaqueousreach ONLINE (04/26/2013) [-]
Just looked it up, supposedly canon.

'Roxanne appears in the episode, "Max's Embarrassing Date", taking place a few years after A Goofy Movie. On Max's night off from work, he takes Roxanne on a date to the House of Mouse. The actions of Mickey and his friends serve to embarrass them both, until Goofy intervenes to let the couple have some privacy. At the end of their date, Roxanne said that despite all of the commotion and embarrassments she had the time of her life, and couldn't wait to come back again.'

They're together for a few years it seems, and it looks like she has no intention of leaving him.

The hell Disney?

It's easier to animate, and it's easier for the viewer to distinguish between the hands and the rest of the body.
