“As he ran toward me, I could see him start to make the ‘shhhhh’ motion holding his hand up,” Roberts told SB Nation. “I knew behind me was the Texas fan section, and he was staring straight ahead. So I’m thinking, ‘Well, I know he’s not ‘shhhh-ing’ his own people.’ ”

tl;dr Didn't like his celebration

That's a police officer . . . . not an Officer of the United States Marine Corps . . . . . there's a rather distinct difference.

IT was hilarious. Apparently the player was running and making a "shhhhh" sound towards the Marine because he was in charge of the color gaurd for the rival team. You DONT hush a marine.... you just don't. So the above image happened.... Epic.
User avatar #52 to #50 - admiralshepard (02/06/2013) [-]
Haha, the Marine cadre for our NROTC detachment are insane! As an Army cadet, I can't help but feel a little sorry for the Marine option Midshipmen. Still, I have nothing but the utmost respect for the Corps, and that goes double for your NCO's.

Im just an applicant right now. But as im elarning more and more about ranks and seeing bases and talking to MArines...... no **** bro.... they're intense. MY friend just got sent off and all eh talked about was the terrible experiences in bootcamp and training.

Im excited as **** but my body is REALLY going to hate it. It's awesome where im going but its torture as well.

When I first saw the .gif I just imagines how much that receiver's asshole tightened when the gunny started to yell.

ehh, I dont even like my family refering to me as a marine.... it's something they wont understand. ITs kind of like not taking a title that's earned when you hvaen't even earned the RIGHT to begin to earn the title..... idk....

But much appreciated. You make sure to kick ass too!
User avatar #49 to #38 - HURLEYSURFERDUDE (02/06/2013) [-]
It's alright, dude. But no. The patch on the MArine's jacket was that of a Gunnery Sergeant a.k.a., the one person you DONT **** with.

The other was a Police sergeant. Nowhere enar the same ranking. I thumbed you up because I understand that you weren't being ignorant or hateful, you were just not informed. That's not a sin.

You don't have to be a dick about it. Not everyone knows this. Ass holes like you are what would make people randomly salute all the marines they meet.

Can someone tell me why civilians aren't supposed to salute military members? I've honestly never heard this. Also, the retired military people I've worked with didn't seem to care when they would give me a salute, and I would salute back.

*addressing an officer outdoors*
User avatar #23 to #22 - admiralshepard (02/06/2013) [-]
Civilians can salute members of the military, there's actually nothing wrong with it, you're just not "supposed" to salute back. The only time a salute is required is when an enlisted personnel is saluting an officer outdoors (and in other various scenarios I won't go into) but a salute can be presented to anyone who has "earned" the honor, it's why you'll even see officers saluting medal of honor recipients.
#30 to #23 - verby ONLINE (02/06/2013) [-]
To elaborate, an MOH recipeint would rate a salute from a POTUS if said POTUS was in uniform. Also I usually half assedly return salutes from civilians while I'm in civilian attire. and by half assedly I mean knife hand moved to the general direction of face
User avatar #45 to #30 - admiralshepard (02/06/2013) [-]
Very true, but I wasn't aware the President could ever be "out" of uniform, haha, then again I doubt the President is expected to adhere to a strict code of customs and courtesies.

Ya, but he looks like he's guarding himself instead. IDK it could go either way. He has the ball and that's why I don't think he went up just to salute

Its actually not what you think. Regardless of your rank a civilian is will always be referred to as sir or ma'am. We work for the population. It'd be like a major saluting a sergeant. Also many civilians don't o it as a sign of respect like it should be. Many do it mockingly
